Please explain to me why Joe's Deli in Rocky River had to buy out a photography studio and a couple of houses to expand??? They OBEY the law. Pretty amazing, when you give good service, offer a good product, you thrive. When you cheat, and have low life clientel, you have fat pigs on the net spamming and soliciting for help. LOL.
ROCKY RIVER Joe’s Deli and Restaurant of Rocky River let customers vote on plans to build a new Joe’s Deli. The verdict: 98 percent voted against constructing a new building. Still, owners Jeanette and Joe Kanaan decided it is time for a bigger and better Joe’s.
The new project is estimated to cost $1.5 million. This includes a new building, new interior and added perks not available at the current restaurant. With the purchase of some adjacent property, the new building will be a stone’s throw from the current one.
“We aren’t looking for more business, it’s just to make it more efficient,” said Jeanette.
Remodeling the current eatery would have been too costly, she said. Because the building is virtually landlocked, it is difficult to expand. Zoning issues ultimately nixed expansion plans.
“We knew we had to do something; we just couldn’t stay in the same situation. We want to service more customers who are tired of waiting,” said Jeanette.
“It would fit a lot better being a new place. The cost to remodel and make it the way we want it would not be cost-effective and we would have to close the restaurant for three months,” said Kathy Sampson, a manager at Joe’s.
Two nearby homes will be torn down to make way for the new restaurant, but inspectors found asbestos in some of the homes, delaying construction. The current building will be razed once the new one is in place. The restaurant’s front entrance now faces Wooster Road and the new building’s entrance will face Hilliard Boulevard.
Project manager Tom Gable said the new deli will seat 185 diners, versus 120 at the current building. A coffee bar will be available for patrons. There will be a separate area to pick up to-go food, to avoid congestion at the hostess station. The restaurant will have handicapped accessible restrooms.
“We want to improve the customer experience,” said Gable.
The environmentally friendly restaurant will boast a large storage unit, reducing deliveries to one per week versus several times per week for the current location which has no storage space. There will be better insulation throughout the building. Thermopane glass windows will keep heat out in the summer and cold in the winter. Parking also will increase by about 50 spaces.
Jeanette said nothing will change at the new Joe’s. The menu and prices will remain the same, and they will not close the current location during construction. The Kanaans are donating everything from the old location to ministries in the Cleveland area.
“We have been very blessed,” said Jeanette.
Construction is scheduled to be complete in about nine months.
