All Michigan had to do was look a little south to Ohio to see what happens to family-owned bars where there are smoking bans. So, now you see. The picture of the empty bar says it all. The anti-smokers lie wherever they peddle their propaganda to get legislators to approve smoking bans. In Ohio, there have been almost 50,000 violations of the smoking ban. That is only a small percentage of the actual violations that go unreported. Smoking bans kill these places, and anti-smokers will NEVER show up as they promised they would. Summer is the easy part. That's why the SmokeFree people always manage to start a smoking ban in the summer. Wait until cold weather comes, for that is when the sh** hits the fan for these unfortunate bar owners.

Fewer drunks driving home from smokey bars translate to lower medical cost for all of us.

40 years ago I quit 2 packs of smokes a day, cold turkey. For 40 years I put up with other people's so-called right to pass their smoke my way in eating establishments. Now, I absolutely enjoy sitting in smoke free places - the same places I have gone for years and endured the smokers. Now, it's my turn. Eating establishments that lost the smoker crowd will have to do what any business does - become creative and figure out how to do something differedt to get customers in the seats.

"Prohibition will work great injury to the cause of temperance. It is a species of intemperance within itself, for it goes beyond the bounds of reason in that it attempts to control a man's appetite by legislation, and makes a crime out of things that are not crimes. A Prohibition law strikes a blow at the very principles upon which our government was founded."

-Abraham Lincoln (1809-65) U.S. President.

Prohibition? Maybe that's the solution - underground bars. Underground bars where all the smokers can go and smoke their heads off. Until the smoking ban is repealed, and it won't be in my lifetime, I'll enjoy eating out without having to take a shower and throw my smoke filled clothes in the washing machine when I get home.

The smoking ban can not be repealed in your lifetime simply because ewe don't have a life. It will however be repealed in the near future. Until then there will be clubs and restaurants in Michigan that choose to remain profitable by allowing smoking just as there are everywhere.

Have a nice self deception.

Whatever happened to freedom? Freedom to smoke, freedom to leave where said smoke occured. Just go down the road if u don't like it to a non smoking establishment. As a bar owner I'd say who the hell is the government to tell me how to run my business? And why can't we have smoking only clubs, and non smoking clubs? The whole things childish. And if we do have underground smoking clubs all the non smokers would want to come anyway cuz it would be hip!

I've lived in two states since leaving Michigan that have smoking bans. The ban in Arizona was met with the same predictions of businesses going under because of it. Rubbish. It did not happen. People still congregate in the bars as usual. Now if they banned alcohol and just had smoking bars(that is - only smoking but no drinking of any sort) those would go under. If I had never smoked, I would not need oxygen at 67.If my husband(also from Kalamzoo) never smoked he would not have had his body ravaged by cancer. Quit whining, grow up. Smoking is bad for everyone's health including those who are sitting next to the ones that smoke while drinking.

Whatever happened to MY RIGHT to breathe clean air in public places that happen to like to frequent. I find it unfortunate that people are too damn rude, stupid, or both to figure out the obvious. I find it unfortunate that our government has to think for dumbasses because they can't or won't do it on our own. Perhaps you think you should be able to drive and send texts at the same time, is that your "right" too?? Breaking news: my right to breathe smoke free air has been restored. Smokers still have the right to walk their ignorant asses outside to get a fix from their addiction. Your right to smoke in my presence and pollute the air I breathe just ended. DEAL WITH IT.....don't like it??? MOVE!

It seems to me YOU ARE THE ONE utilizing "self deception". The smoking ban is real and is in effect. There is no "plan" anywhere to repeal the ban. Sorry about the dose of real world little boy, or should I say Miss Cleo. Suggestion: DEAL WITH IT. Wow!! smell that???

You have NEVER read the bill of rights, and if you had it would have been way beyond what your little brain could possibly absorb. Take your pathetic "rebel" flag and use it to wipe your ass with. You and your moronic opinions are less than zero.

The ban people finally figured out summer bans after several years. They updated their instructions on page eighteen. It shows how clueless they are about bars. Their religion probably doesn't allow them to enter any bars.

People smoke to lose weight. Now the bars are gonna be full of big fat people. But they won't stink of smoke. They'll stink of fried foods and unwashed taint.
