I have been waking up at 3am sharp for quite some time as well. Have you heard of "dead time"? It freaks me out like no other, but I am a believer of spirits. When you're alone, do you feel like someone is with you? See shaddows from the corner of your eyes? Sounds crazy, but Im trying to see if maybe we all have something else in common.

I too wake up every time I go to sleep, no mattter what the time, just like clock work I wake up exactly 2 hours later, wide awake.Sometimes I can go back to sleep and others I can't.....I don't understand this at all.
As for seeing shadows out of the corner of my eye, yes I have that too.kind of weird....more weird is two people live here and anytime of the day I always feel there are three.......anyone else have that

As far as my experience has been...and my husband's....is not in any way associated with sleep apnea, depression or the like. I have had this midmorning awakening for 15 years. My husband started about three years ago. Mine started just after my late husband passed away.
I am God loving, but not a religious fanatic. Our beliefs involve the universe and a higher power...however, we are not space cadets. So why does this happen? The time we retire has nothing to do with it. So...to all of you that have experienced this for many years...or just recently...good luck. For me, I am just allowing myself to be open to any explanations, but it does NOT involve sleep apnea or depression. I have had neither.

This doesn't make sense! Arrg! Every morning between 2am and 3am I'm up and ready go... then I actually look at my clock and I'm pissed cuz it's wayy too early. I get up at 6am and I have to go to school.(age 16) I don't spend a lot of time on homework, I do it at school so I'm not up late or anything. I exercise daily and eat as healthy as possible, but nothing seems to work. This has been going on since... ehh.... October?
I take two medications in the morning but they're supposed to wear off by 2pm if I take them at 6am before I leave.
Somebody please give a valid scientific explanation instead of theories and speculations and 'maybe you should try....' D:

To Sleeper: Please clean up your act and realize that some of us have this 3-3:45 am wakeup concern. It has nothing to do with blood sugar levels, bad karma, depression or our sex drive.

To Nickels: Please don't let it spook you. Just embrace it and go with it. As long as you can fall back to sleep after this strange awakening, you'll be alright.

With me it would be 2:12-2:20 every night. Thought the 2:20 was significant as 2 weeks in a row but shifted recently. Started after I began getting acupuncture for my back, mind seems much clearer. Will try some of the ideas listed here. Alcohol doesn't seem to do anything like it did in the past for me. Stress level at work is down an order of magnitude with a new job. I can't really figure it out, I should be more relaxed and sleeping more soundly.

I'm currently in Iraq and I've never had a problem with waking at 3am until about a week ago. It's crazy because it's the same time every night. Reading a book for about 30min to an hour before sleep has helped. But I can see how stress related events can takes it's toll on sleeping patterns.

I feel encouraged by these posts, because I was freaking out that this was happening to me! I wake up nearly every night before midnight (I usually go to bed around 9pm) and then again between 2am and 3am (usually closer to 3). Sometimes I lie awake for over an hour before falling back asleep. Other times, I fall back asleep, but toss and turn the rest of the night. I have to wake up around 6am for work, but this happens on the weekends, too. It is so frustrating. I have tried several sleeping aids, but all they do is help me fall asleep, which I can do on my own. I need something to help me stay asleep! It is so frustrating!

For the past year or so, i have been waking up between 255 and 330am. Not everynight, but often. I am woken up by the overwhelming sensation of fear. A fear that surounds me, in my room. Sometimes I am woken up by the macob events of a dream, usually dealing with evil, fear, or something not good. Than, when i snap out of that dream, the sensaton of that fear or evil is in my room. You bet i blieve there is something greater than us. The witching hour is certainly a time which affects alot of people. Why? Whats is the message? I dont know, but I'm sure the closer to "the shift" that we get or what ever universal changes are coming, the witching hour will become more and more for many of us. Anyone else kinda agree or see where I'm coming from?:)

Hello. Your certainly not a freak. i know of few folks that are experiancing such things as you have. I get pulled out of my sleep stometimes by a "thing." a sensation of frear, evil. Sometims it holds me down, i'm unable to move, or yell. I eventualy get out of it. than i sleep with my lights on till day break.

im twelve years old, i wake up at 3 or around 3 pretty much every night, i take a look around the house, and usually get a drink so i can fall back to sleep, but every night the same thing seems to happen, its almost like something is waking me up, is this natural for someone my age to be waking up like this? if anyone can give me some answers please do, my parents are really concerned because most of the time i cant fall back to sleep, or when i fall to sleep i feel like someone is standing over me staring at me.

Does anyone else wake up in the middle of the night EVERY night? I get up at 3AM give or take 15 minutes every single night. I then have to get up to get water to fall back asleep. It's really annoying. Is there anything I can do in my daily habits to stop this? I wake up around 6 AM every day for work and take the occasional nap in the afternoon (like once or twice a week). I eat a good dinner and avoid booze and caffiene before bed. Any ideas??

This is weak liver function. Google this phrase and you will see. Taken care by traditional Chinese medicine. I recommend to address it seriously as it is causing a lot of other health problems
