The strategy to help cure shingles usually is one that helps boost the immune system. High doses of vitamin C have reportedly helped. The patient usually takes 1 gram of vitamin C every 4 hours or so until diahrrhea occurs and then backs off.

It is unfortuante that Universal Varicella Vaccination has actually created a situration that has increased the incidence of adult shingles. This has resulted due to the fact that adults used to receive an immunologic boost when they were exposed to a child with wild (natural) chickenpox. Now that such exposures are rare, the adult does not receive the exogenous (or outside) boosts to their immunne system which previously served to help suppress the reactivation of the varicella-zoster virus as shingles. More about this is available at www.injectionbook.com

You should go see a doctor that practices both conventional and natural medicine. Try neurontin for the nerve pain and go to wilner chemist (they have a website) for the alternative treatment for nerve and inflamation herbs and vitamins (b complex, and some other ones such as lysine). Call them they will sugest what to take. We have this problem and have found this to be very helpful. I wish you the best!

Hi, I have had chronic nerve pain for over 4 years now. I've spoken to people who have had a lot of luck with the vitamin supplement Alpha-Linoleic Acid. It is just an amino acid, so it should have no adverse effect on your mom. My pain management physician also recommended it to me. I have yet to try it.

The treatments that are not as talked about are topical analgesics (basically stuff that you rub onto the site of pain and it kills pain locally). They work very FAST. I use Vapo-Rub. It sounds crazy, but it works!!! It is a pain killer. I also use Walgreens(or any other drug store) store brand Muscle and Joint gel. They reduce inflammation, only nobody thinks to use these topical analgesics for nerve pain. But, they are cheap, work great, and provide instant relief. Give it a shot! It never hurts to try. Good luck with everything and stay strong!

I'm 51 and have had chronic shingles for about 6 years. I've been told too young for chronic shingles. I get an outbreak once a month on my right backside. The pain is horrible. Terrible back pain. While I can't do anything for that, once the blisters appear, I use cortizone cream for the itching and neosporin + pain for the pain. I know there are studies for people over 60 for chronic shingles, but I'm too young to join the group. I wish I could.

Hi my name is Darlene my mother has had shingles on her right leg since January. I don't know what it feels like but everyday seeing my mother go through the pain makes me cry. I am trying anything so she can get some relief. Now she is hallucinating. She is taking medicine for it but for the past couple of days she says she sees things coming out of her leg. Can the meds be causing this. Thank you for your time and i hope and pray that you find some relief from what you are going through. I will have my mother try the vapo rub. thanks for the advice.

I am 24 yrs old and have had shingles consistantly since I was 18 yrs old. There is nothing wrong with me- no immune suppressing diseases, etc. My body just cannot produce the antibody (varacella) to keep shingles away. I have gotten the antibody as a shot ("new shingles vaccination") but nothing works since my body does not support it. I have had it 18 times over the years, all over my body- never once in the same place. I have lost feeling in part of my side and am deaf in my left ear because it killed my hearing nerve. I will tell you that I have triend every medication and therapy in the book, from creams, pills, vapors, vitamins, and patches, and nothing has truly worked to completely keep the pain from the post herpatic neuraglia at bay. The only thing I can say that has worked the best is the medication, Neurontin, because it goes straight to the nerves, in combination with a liboderm patch. The patches will numb the area topically while the neurontin gets it from the inside. Neurontin has to be prescribed by your dr, but I will say that it has worked better then anything else and I have been on it for several years. I never had any luck with topical creams, and I tried numerous kinds, but it really all depends on the person. Pain killers also never worked for me. I had a dr early on whose solution to all my problems was prescribing me vicodin... pain killers of that nature do not help with nerve pain! I would try to explore the different medication options and see if neurontin is an option. Another one dr's prescribe often is Lyrica, but I did not like they way it made me feel. I wish anyone who goes thru this the very best, because I know it is not easy. I fight the pain on a daily basis!

Answer:
For the Pain, See a chiropracter ASAP, to administer you Laser, Infra Red and Accupuncture.
It works!! I've had 7 sessions and the pain is leaving me. The Laser was the most effective pain reliever. I also take 3000 mg Vit.C, Lysin 1000 mg to 2000 mg a day, and Lecithin granules, 2
spoons a day to heal and possible nerve damage from the virus.
The Dr. who treated me is Dr. Dimerman in Thornhill. His fees are $35 per session. The 1st session costs about $60. He came to my rescue, and its like a miracle that the pain is leaving me. I've never experienced such pain in my life time. I'm 60 y.o. who has had breast cancer, but never knew such pain exists.
Answer: Apply retinol A cream once a day on area.
it help heal and get rid of outer skin layer faster. Also open up vit. A&D capsule and rub on area for faster healing.

Look up in the Yellow Pager a Chiropracter who
charges reasonable fees. And in my opinion no matter what the fee is, to get rid of pain that has tot.
al control and delibitating effect on your life, should be treated no matter what the cost is!

Get Laser and Infra Red and Accupuncture treatment. At least try the Lsser first!
It works!! ask him to rub the laser wand over
the painful area for about 10 minutes. you'll
find a quick relief.

I saw by the way a Chropracter in Toronto.
You better look up someone in the Yellow Pages.
call them and ask if they use Laser, Infra Red and Accupuncture. Here in Toronto I paid $35
for each session. Only my 1st session cost,$60.

Good Luck!

Answer:

I'm 60 and got the shingles. The pain was undescribable!
My pain is much better due to taking: L-Carnitine supplement
500 mg, and Alpha Lipoic Acid capsules 3x a day on empty stomach. Take for 1 month. LASER
Vit. C 2000-3000 mg a day. Also go to a Chiropracter, shop from the Yellow Pages for a reasonable fee. and get Therapies of
and INFRA RED, and ACCUPUNCTURE, at least 7-9 sessions.
You will appreciate the difference. You'll feel much much better!!

If you live in Toronto, Dr. Dimerman is a Chiropracter in Thornhill.
He charges $35.00 per session.

Good Luck!

Each session (2 sessions a week) Laser wand was applied
first for 5 minutes, then 10 minutes on the area of concern.

I know many are going to poo poo this advice, but here goes. I have tried them all. You are right that Neurontin helps. It quit working for me after 3 yrs. I was at my wits end. Don't even get me started on that Lyrica junk I was prescribed.

Finally someone said have you tried marijuana? Well no,it is illegal and I am too old for jail.

I was given some by a person I will never name. It changed my life. When I am broke out and in pain (Mine is the touching the stove kind)I smoke it or make pills from it. The recipe is on the internet for the pills if smoking it is not for you. It is easy to put down when you are well, just try that with the narcotics.

I also use immune system boosting herbs, also on the internet. I treat with hot baths, rest and funny movies. Laughter throws natural pain relievers into your system and improves mood. So get the funniest you can find(blazing saddles is a good one)

We all know time is the only thing that heals the shingles until the next time they come. I hope some of you try this. It changed everything for me.

Daily Horoscope for December 24

Aries

Christmas Eve finds you happy and eager to get the most out of the day. You're in a rather sentimental mood, so if you've got time you'll relish the chance to watch a favourite film, especially if it means you've got to get out the hankies. A friend's kindness or sensitivity will delight you - and make you wonder how you can reciprocate.
