I am a 25 year old female. I have dealt with ovarian cysts in the past, starting when I was 17. I've had three that I know of rupture, followed by intense abdominal pain that usually last about 30 minutes. Monday I was getting ready for bed as usual when I fell completely limp, hands clenched, eyes dilated fully and open and was out about 30-40 seconds. When I came to I had no recollection of the event. I stood up, feeling very weak I couldn't hold myself up and collapsed onto the floor. With help I walked to my car and was sitting in the passenger seat before the intense pain hit me. I knew what it was immediately. Sharp, Cutting pain, first day of my menstrual cycle. My color was completely drained by the time we got to the hospital. My temperature had dipped to 92 degrees and I was convulsing trying to keep warm. I teetered in and out of consciousness until, with the aid of heated blankets, my temperature began to rise. The overwhelming pain lasted the usual 30 or so minutes before subsiding. The next day I was incredible exhausted, very weak and ran a fever all day. When I've had the cyst before they've been accompanied only by intense pain. Never seizure symptoms or the erratic dip in body temperature. I had never had a seizure before. Unfortunately, I don't have insurance and I feel every call I make to try to get further testing on why this is happening gets pushed under the rug. I'm not sure if this is normal. Did the seizure cause the cyst to burst or the other way around? Anyone have any ideas why this may be happening, or perhaps know of a similar situation?

I too have a ruptured Ovarian Cyst. I also have epilepsy. The epilepsy is controlled by medication.
I found out I had a ruptured cyst because I was in intense pain in the abdominal region and went to the ER. They did a CT scan. I was told I had "a cyst on my ovary". He didn't run any additional tests when I told him I didn't have insurance but let me go advising me to follow up with the local clinic (that treats all the migrant workers who work for peanuts in the vineyards....I'm in Sonoma). I went to the clinic and the nurse practisioner I saw there read my ER report and said I have bilateral cysts (plural) and one of them has ruptured (the one on my left primarily where the pain was). The nurse also gave a rectal exam (which the ER doctor didn't do) and she said I was bleeding internally. She told me I need to get an ultrasound and a colonoscopy (I also had rectal bleeding) and referred me to a gastrointestinologist. I explained I had no health insurance. She said this is something that must get done. Apparently, she doesn't get that no insurance=no money gets you no tests regardless of how sick you are in the good ole US of A. Since the ER visit, I have been having intermittent pain, nausea, irregular period and last night in my sleep, I had the first seizure I've had since 2005. I am really scared that there is something terribly wrong. I don't know what hte protocol is for treating a ruptured ovarian cyst. It's just causing a whole mess of problems which, in turn, is causing me to miss work. |
