medication(if thats what you want), relaxtion, self belief (ie. telling yourself that you can get out of this), a healthy support system of family and friends(if you have them), talking to people(how are they going to help you if you never speak up), excersise (to keep your mind off of things), a hobby (to take up additional time). these are all the things ive tryed to do to help my illness, i think that mental illness is a kind of mindstate that alot of people put them selfs into over years of watever it is thats bothering the person or triggering there psychosis. i know the genetic predisposition and everything but i really believe that me not dealing with my anger and alot of issues in the past put me into a mindstate that could only end up the way i did. just my take on things i dont know alot about the medical side about schizophrenia or mental illness but i know what im going thru every day and im trying to figure out what put me here. anyway hope this post helps someone.

meditation is also an excellent form of relaxation and exercise for the mind. btw i only posted this because of all the bogus "cures" on this forum. these are logical steps you can take maybe not to cure but to help your mind work on a normal state of mind again.

i would have to say keep off the drugs, including medications.

meditation increases activitie in the part of the brain dealing with attention. and it actually makes it grow. it also reduces overall activitie and produces a mood lift. this mood lift with meditation is good because meditation relaxes the mind. so instead of going manic, you just feel good.
this whole meditation process along with the ability to "see" relaxes you and allows you to embrace the moment. when you embrace the moment an let things be, you are "seeing". in other words, your brain is able to filter information better, which is what schizos cant do.

feeling compassion for yourself works a bit. especially if you tell yourself every moring that you will get better.

peace

I agree that believing in yourself is a good start. But, people who have schiz are more likely to have depression so it's very hard to motivate yourself..

What you said about help from family and friends, that can also be hard especially if you have hurt them in the past, they may not understand and try and talk you out of your feelings.

I think the best way to help yourself is to see a professional who knows more about the disease than yourself.

Plus, sometimes people with schiz don't know they have it and think that their behaviour is normal to them. Usually a family member or friend admits the sufferer to a hospital and therefore becomes a kind of enemy.

I don't think there is any cure for schiz, the only way one is to have a full life is to accept what you are and surround yourself with positive people. As long as you know what's wrong you always have a choice to change it.
