First off, I itched for a few months without realizing I had scabies. I work at a gp office and they couldn't figure out what it was. I got online self diagnosed myself with scabies and did the permethrin treatment-itched worse than I ever have in my life the whole next day, then did the treatment again. My work suggested I see a derm to make sure that's what it really was, I went to her she scraped my skin and still found eggs. She gave me the stromectol pills I went home cleaned like crazy put things in bags then took the pills. For about 10 days I felt cured, the derm had said "oh no ur family is fine they don't need to be treated unless they live with you" well she was wrong. I caught it back from someone in my family at thanksgiving. I called the derm she insisted I was cured but and not to come back in until my follow up appt. So I did tons if research here's what I did and I have felt great for a month now.
1. Bleach baths. I bought non chlorine bleach put two cups in the bath and did that one night
2. Borax w/ hydrogen peroxide baths, 2 cups borax, one cup hydrogen peroxide. Since I wasn't sure which would really work I alternated both for a week.
3. Each night I put tea tree oil on, even still, because I am super paranoid
4. Coconut oil is a great moisturizer, my skin was horrible after those baths and once I quit taking them the coco oil got my skin back to normal within 3 days. Be mindful when using though it can clog your pores.
5. Garlic pills, I read they hate garlic so I started taking those, plus it's really good for your body
anyways
6. I alternated days spraying my house with tea tree oil, non chlorine bleach, and borax. Washed sheets daily and vacuumed every other day.

I know it all sounds a little extreme but when you are itching that bad you will try almost anything! I think after 2 days of doing that stuff I was cured
But really don't know since I did it all for longer than that!

How long have you been symptom free?

"Bleach baths. I bought non chlorine bleach put two cups in the bath and did that one night"

It's the chlorine in the bleach that kills them.

Since november 26, I quit having crawling feelings and those weird pin prick feelings. I did still have itching though bc my skin was so dry but it was a completely different feeling when I itched than when scabies were active. I read on a lot of different posts that non chlorine bleach was safer and killed them so that's why I did that

The majority of what you read in this forum is either junk science, folk remedies or some version of witchcraft/voodoo. It is great to get some tips and suggestions to point you in the right direction but you should ALWAYS ALWAYS take that information and do your own research, thank god for the internet. After all there is a lot at stake , it's your body.

Went to Dr yesterday, my daughter was diagnosed with hand foot mouth disease about 3 weeks ago...turns out to be scabies....came home from doctor...have 6 tubes of permethrin. He said put it on before bedtme...treating 8 people in the house...so researched on line....mixed equal parts coconut oil and olive oil, added tea tree oil, mixed well got a face towel and oiled kids and me down. Took dawn dish washing liquid and washed everyone, soaked in tub for 20 minutes I put 1 cup bleach in my water, and washed skin good with towel....to get all dead skin off then applied permethrin head to toe and gave out benadryl....husband heading for shower....then me....sprayed ammonia on sofa rugs yesterday will repeat and vacuum....getting plastic to cover furniture...thinking about bombing the house, but will try spraying the lice bedding on everything then vacuum, probably will bomb especially if it gets to be below 50 degrees...cdc says they die to cold exposure....figure 3-4 hours would help....plan to retreat everyone in a couple days....better safe than sorry...have so much to wash...I have all girls, I thought lice was a nightmare...this is the worst!
Oh the oil mixture stayed.on from lunch time to bath time....about 6 hours. Got the coconut oil from Walmart, it absorbs into the skin, olive oil has some type of smothering process and tea tree oil from Walgreens, has some killing process. I know not everything works for everyone...but I'm willing to try anything.

... Just saw this sending husband out to get A&H detergent, more borax, more lice spray, plastic covers for beds and sofas...going to bathe in the A&H twice a day too, wash clothes in it too. One Dr gave me lidane....I mixed it with purex, too poisonous for me...soaking the clothes in hot water for about 30-60 minutes with this and borax then doing warm water rinse 2 times....can't wait to see the water bill!
Treat, treat, treat and clean, clean, clean....putting things in bags till Feb...from all I've read think about 1 month of treating and 2 months of continuous cleaning should do it....I know it's more than most would like....our society wants everything instant....can't beat scabies instantly...sorry.

That's a horrible thing to say FRED FROM "SAN DIEGO." You slip sometimes and your "witch" comes out of you. junk science... care to explain that one. Folk remedies? Care to explain that? People are using things because the standard treatments are failing them. Your statements are bordering on a "forum take over." because you know "EVERYTHING"????
I most definitely will do my research, and will not take YOUR WORD FOR ANYTHING.....

Jessi,
if you read some of "FED UP'S" posts, you will see that her witch comes out of her. Yes, she is doing a lot of research, but, then every now and then, she slips up. You just have to observe the way she posts.

And yes, I am sure she meant every word in that post.

I've been suffering for years, because roommate won't help. I wash everything after first wearing, try to shamppoo carpet every week, but sometimes can't. I am handicapped, so I can't do a lot of things, but I am getting better. Going to make myself get in the bathtub, even though I am afraid I can't get out. I get "lazy" sometimes, and don't wash for 2-3 days, because I'm so tired and sick of this. I am putting a lot of faith in the bleach baths; i keep Permetherin on, but I have this in my nose and scalp, so I sad but hoping I will find the answer here.

I find that FRED raises valid concerns that actually make people stop and research. Just my two cyber cents.

Louie, it could b two things. One that the babys r spewing out of the shell or it could b u r in the last phase of ridding ur scabies. I I had scabies for 5 months. It was fukin hell. Wat kills them is cold exposure and pool chlorine. Jump in a cold ass pool with chlorine for about an hr. Ur body gets numb anf the coldness goes away. But at the same time it kills those sons of a bitches. Im scabies free ever since I did that.

Don't forget apple cider vinegar. I read on an Indian website that people wipe it on their faces if they feel it in their eyelids and nostrils. I did it, it does burn if you get it in your eyes, but just wipe gently. I also was sure to dunk my head in the borax bath a lot, just hold your breathe. I always spot treat with tea tree oil.
Has anyone else tried sea salt? I have been adding epsom salt recently. Also has anyone NOT bought a mattress cover and cured it? I don't have the money for that. I just spray the mattress with bleach water every day. I thought I was cured and then I let up on the cleaning routine after I felt better and now they're back. This is like an exercise in discipline, which I have never had before, but with a little one, you don't want to isolate yourself for too long.
