I have been diagnosed with scabies, and have no idea how I got them. I'm partially disabled and haven't the strength to clean my house adequately. I've convinced my doctor to give me ivermectin and I'm planning to quarantine my house and car for 5 days by going to a motel. I'll even abandon my computer! But I cannot live without my cell phone, and I don't want to bring it along in case it's harboring mites. So, how can I disinfest it? Can I freeze it? I cannot use it inside a ziploc, as I have to be able to open and close it, and the buttons to push are tiny.

I rubbed mine down with some rubbing alcohol, I don't think freezing it would be a good idea.

Good luck

If you have a blow dryer maybe you can use that. The combination of heat and blowing might work.

"The combination of heat and blowing might work." Uh, yeah it might. On second thought scabies wouldn't be on your cell phone. I wouldn't worry about it. Even a lot of the furniture cleaning people do is unnecessary.

"Scabies wouldn't be on your cell phone." how do you determine this. Cell phones are fomites and the scabies mites will transfer from a person who has a severe infestation in their hands and onto the phone. Once the mites get into the phone, within 24 hours, they are ready for a blood meal and are read to reenter into the warm blooded hand. I have been using clorox wipes on my phones. i also use co2. place the phone in the bag, fill with co2, have it zipped almost closed, zip shut and leave it for a few hours. refill with co2 a few more times. mites will die in carbon dioxide.
