scabies

Hello, I've been itching for months now. I think I got scabies sometime last June while I was out backpacking and traveling around the West Coast. I haven't been diagnosed, but I match all the symptoms and I've seen pictures of it online.
See, for two years I was convinced I had herpes because I had had sex with this girl in Missouri. Well, I eventually got a sore on the hed of my penis and thought, finally, confirmation I've got herpes. I got tested for it at the free clinic in Missoula, Montana. It came back herpes negative. I told the nurse how I was itching and she said maybe it was scabies. I looked scabies up on the web and saw pictures of scabies on penises and it looked exactly like mine. The sore healed up soon afterwards and hasn't come back.
On 9-22-09 at the free clinic there they gave me a tube of permethrin 5% and told me to apply it all over from the neck down. The nurse told me it would cure it. The bottle even said one application was curative. Lies.
Halfway through my trip I decided to head back home to heal my scabies. So I came home to my mom's house Oct 14. On 10-21 I was able to get another tube of permethrin 5%, a month later and I am still itching.
I told my mother how I was very concerned of spreading scabies to her and my nephew who live here. She wasn't too concerned saying God will protect her. I haven't even told my 13 year old nephew. My mom doesn't want me to, but I think it would be fair.
Since I've been back I've been glued to the all the forums and washing my clothes in hot water daily. I never wear the same thing twice. Recently I ordered some sulfur soap and I do a whole body treatment in the shower. Been doing that for about a week. When I wake up and when I go to bed. At first I would massage the soap into my skin completely until I was dry and just got dressed. Now I rinse it off after about thirty minutes.
I get so paranoid. I feel guilty hanging out with friends and not telling them I've got scabies. I would flip out if I gave one of my friends scabies. I feel like a leper.
I change the bedcover every night and I've got a couple sleeping bags and I wash those in hot water all the time too.
My mom's house has a tile floor so no carpet. I just did a borax soak yesterday for the first time. I only had enough supplies for one. Am I supposed to do this twice a day? 3 cups of borax, 2 cups of epsom salt and 2 cups of hydrogen peroxide in hot water. It was a bit difficult in the tub because I am six foot six. I'm still itching though.
So, I don't share clothes or beds with anyone else in the house. I share keyboards. What should I wipe a keyboard with? Can they get scabies from sharing a computer chair? Am I less infectious after a sulfur soap shower?
So, I've been back for about two months. Can I assume that my mother and nephew have scabies already, or will get scabies eventually as long as I am living here too? Giving my mom and nephew scabies is one of my worst nightmares.
I wish I could leave and take off backpacking again, but it would be impossible for me to get rid of scabies on the road since I wouldn't be able to wash my clothes in hot water everyday.
From what I've read on these forums going to the doctor won't help much if they're just going to prescribe me permethrin. I don't have any medical insurance anyway.
I DETEST SCABIES. I swear I feel so cursed. I used to tell everybody I was happiest man in the world when they asked how I was doing, UNTIL I GOT SCABIES.

Antonio,

Stop abusing your skin and poisoning yourself. You are likely to give yourself Dermatitus.
Kill the Scabies naturally with Diatomacious Earth. DE Kills the scabies on contact within 2 days.

1) Place the legs of your bed in pie pans sprinkled liberally with DE. Next sprinkle DE liberally between box spring & mattress. Sprinkle DE liberally on top of mattress under your sheet. Light dusting of DE around bed and around floor trim. Wear a dust mask and DO NOT inhale the DE.

2) Mix 1/4 DE with 3/4 Windex, and spray car seats, chairs you sit in and upholstery of couches you sit on. Windex kills instantly, and DE kills later.

2) You have several opportunities to kill mites on your body. They leave their eggs to dig a new molting pouch. Each time they molt, they leave their old pouch to dig a new molting pouch. Finally as adults, the male crawls around searching for a female molting pouch. Then when pregnant, the female leaves her pouch to find an ideal spot to dig her new egg tunnel. You have mite larvae leaving their egg tunnels every day looking for a place to dig molting pouches.

3) KILL THEM WHEN THEY LEAVE THEIR POUCHES ! Mix 1/4 DE to 3/4 of your favorite body oil. I suggest using Grape Seed oil. You can also use Olive Oil, Coconut oil, etc. Also mix 1/4 DE into your favorite skin cream. Apply this mixture to your skin ALL OVER 2 or 3 times daily. Apply the skin cream mix to difficult areas. This is GREAT for your skin. Adds emollients and nourishes your skin. These actions leave a film of DE on your skin that will KILL the mites as they leave their pouches.

4) I also lightly sprinkle DE into my sheets between the butt and toes area.

Food Grade DE also has major health benefits when mixed into your coffee, or fruit juice daily. See this link:

Wash your clothes in HOT water using Borax, Arm & Hammer detergent, & bleach. Dry extra long HOT.

Thanks for the prompt reply. How am I abusing my skin? By taking sulfur soap showers twice a day? When you say DE will kill the mites in two days, does it also kill eggs? I'll order some soon. With the DE and oil mix you spoke of, when do I rinse it off, if at all? How long have you been dealing with scabies, Vann? How many hours can I wear clothes before I have to wash them in hot water. Oh yeah, and to conserve I haven't been using laundry soap at all lately. Just running the machine with hot water. Are my efforts in vain?

Antonio,
IMO, You are abusing your skin by showering 2 times every day with any soap. You are drying out your skin. Also you are soaking in too much chemicals: IMO, 3 cups of borax, 2 cups of epsom salt and 2 cups of hydrogen peroxide in hot water is WAY excessive. IMO, 1 cup of each is more than adequate. The skin can only take so much abuse before you create problems for yourself. Permethrin {AKA Elimite, NIX, Lyclear, Acticin} is a poison and can cause severe dermatitus, rash or skin burns.... especially when left on your skin too long. Ditto from too much sulfur. People on this board go WAY OVERBOARD in desperation and are creating severe problems for themselves. The blind leading the blind.

DE does not kill the eggs. You don't rinse the oil mix off. Grapeseed oil is nutritional & is absorbed into the skin and leaves a film of DE behind which kills the scabbies within 2 days after they crawl out of their egg burrow to dig a molting pouch. Or when they crawl out of their molting pouch to dig a new molting pouch. Or they crawl around to find an ideal spot for a new egg burrow. When they crawl on DE, they are doomed and will die within a few days. Read my links on DE for more. You should change your clothes every day and seal them in a plastic bag until they are washed. IMO it is vital to wash your laundry Arm & Hammer detergent with 20 Mule Team Borax and bleach (or Hydrogen Peroxide for dark clothes) because your hot water may not be hot enough. Some even boil their clothes in desperation before going into the washing machine.

More on Grapeseed Oil:
http://facecandy.blogspot.com/2007/07/reap-be...
It makes your skin silky smooth and is extremely healthy for your skin.

Scabies will die within 3 to 4 days without a human meal. For this reason, I take my clothing from the bottom of the newly washed pile, as I have about 30 shirts, so newly washed clothing sits for about 30 days before I wear them again.{ overkill }

I shower with Sulfur soap and sulfur shampoo 3 days a week at my gym. After the shower I apply sulfer8 cream {similar to Vaseline } to affected areas.

I studied itching skin extensively for 2 months before deciding on a course of action. I began my DE treatments recently around Jan 1st and my wife thinks I am cured already. However I am not convinced & will be taking my DE treatments up until I am for certain cured.

So you only shower three days a week? Do you do anything special with the sulfur soap? How long do you leave it on before you rinse? Where do they sell DE, like what kind of store? Do you take the DE internally also? What amount of DE should I get? Two other people live in my house. I've been back home for two months and they've shown no signs of scabies. I barely have any skin-to-skin contact with either of them. They don't go in my room. The only shared piece of furniture is the computer chair and keyboard. How thoroughly should I clean the house? Sorry for all the questions. My life is at a standstill with scabies. I really hope I can cure myself and I am so scared of giving it to anyone else. I'm terrified.

So you only shower three days a week?
** Yes, and just a normal shower, where I scrub myself with a wash rag and then a brush before rinsing off.

Where do they sell DE, like what kind of store?
** Normally sold in a farming supply store or in a health food store. I had to order on the internet. I bought a 10 lb bag more than enough for myself, my herd of goats and neighbors. Was $15 plus $15 shipping.

Do you take the DE internally also?
** We just started taking 1 tablespoon a day in our juice in the morning this week. Nothing to report yet.
See this link for everyone's reports on taking DE internally:
http://www.topix.com/forum/health/scabies/TV6...
I will post results if any at this link.

What amount of DE should I get?
==========
** For personal use by one person, I think 2 lb should be more than adequate.
http://www.earthworkshealth.com/products.php

Two other people live in my house. I've been back home for two months and they've shown no signs of scabies.
** Weird, but my wife has not yet caught my scabies and we have a LOT of skin contact! If she starts showing symptoms, I will start her on the DE/Grapeseed Oil mix. That won't be a big deal because she rubs grapeseed oil all over herself after every shower anyway. Could her GrapeSeed oil be smothering her Scabies to death?? Or did she just not get them? I don't know. I first started with plain grapeseed oil in December and I thought it was smothering them to death, but I could not prove it. But then I was not getting worse in Dec. Perhaps mixing it with DE is overkill? This is a question for someone else to answer. I want them killed ASAP and DE mix is definitely doing it.

The only shared furniture is the computer chair and keyboard.
** Spray the keyboard after every use with Windex
Spray furniture that you sit on 2 times a week with Windex/DE mix.

How thoroughly should I clean the house?
** Just your normal cleaning, whatever that is. The Scabies will not venture far from their meal [you], and will die within 3 or 4 days without a meal. They do NOT lay eggs in the environment, and will lay eggs only in your skin burrows. Sorry but IMO, people on this board have gone hyper off the deep end on this one. Just make sure scabies cannot crawl up or down the legs of your bed with a plate of DE under the legs. This is a different story if what you have is NOT scabies. Make sure you can ID scabies by the skin burrows. If you can't see any burrows then you have something else. However the DE mix will kill any and all mites, bedbugs, lice, etc. but NOT Morgellons. If you can see fibers coming out of your skin, then you have Morgellons, and that is a totally different nightmare. In that case you have Lyme Disease which must be treated asap.

Sorry for all the questions. My life is at a standstill with scabies. I really hope I can cure myself and I am so scared of giving it to anyone else. I'm terrified.
** Cheer up. My itching is already GONE, and my skin is rapidly clearing up,.. all since Jan 1 when I started mixing DE into my Grapeseed oil. I should soon be posing on the "I'm Cured Thread."

Hmm, Lyme disease? There's an idea. I looked it up on Wikipedia and I've never had that donut rash they have a picture of. I was just out backpacking for a year and I never used a tent. Slept in a lot of woods. I've got a military rain poncho which I use as my portable floor and a mummy sleeping bag. I usually slept out in the open. So when you said Lyme disease I thought well, maybe. I did get ticks in California once but that was back in May 07.
I have never had anything that looks like those burrows on those links. Come to think of it all those pictures look like extreme cases. My itching isnt all that bad. Are there minor cases? Did your scabies ever resemble those pictures? It did used to be a lot worse, but never that bad.
I remember when I first got permethrin, before I did the whole body treatment, where I would itch I would dabble a little perm on it and the itch would stop immediately. So I've assumed it was indeed scabies because the cream had some effect.
I think I recall having had multiple bumps close to the "crotch" of my right thumb, but that's gone away.
Nowadays I itch in random spots on my chest and my back sometimes. I haven't always itched on my back. Right now I've got small raised bumps on my neck behind both ears that itch sometimes. There's small red bumps on my forehead too. Again the itching isn't constant, just once in a while. Especially when I sweat. It's never kept me from falling asleep or woken me up. Sometimes my scalp itches. There's not always a small red bump where I itch. In some places there's nothing.
It would really make my day if I were to find out it wasn't scabies. Well, as long as what it really is is treatable.
My mother said she would make me a doctor's appointment for me next week. From what I read from all the postings doctor's just prescribe permethrin and send you away. If I told them I've already tried the perm and it didn't work what else would they do? Do you know anything about ivermectin? Word has it that they aren't likely to prescribe me it since it's not FDA approved.
Vann, I want to give you special thanks for corresponding with me so thoroughly about this. You have no idea how much it means to me. Well, you might. Thanks a lot. Very generous of you.

Like I said, avoid the poisons and the harsh chemicals. Iver is another poisonous product. Do it any way you want. I will only promote NON-TOXIC cures.

Here are photos of Morgellons caused by Lyme disease.
Caused by untreated Lyme Disease which weakens the immune system, resulting in Morgellons and then Springtails, per proven documentation at www.Morgellons.Org ....
"This condition report a range of symptoms including
* crawling, biting and stinging sensations;
* granules, threads or black specks on/beneath the skin;
* skin lesions (e.g., rashes or sores)
* Also such as fatigue, mental confusion, short term memory loss,
* joint pain, and changes in vision."

I used a steam cleaner to sanitize the mattress, chairs, virtually everything! It is also important to launder clothing, bedding etc. daily.

I used a sulpur based topical cream and soap which really worked - the essential oils used in the products helped sooth the itch.

Try reading articles on naturaltreatmentforscabies.com - it really helped me!
