I caught scabies over ten years ago and was given a rx type of oil and was cured instantly...lindane?? Recently caught it again and the only thing the Dr prescribed me was over the counter permethrin and after several applications (and $$$) realized that it wasn't working (I was also madly sanitizing everything in the house daily!!!) I then took to forums and was willing to try anything!!!
What worked for me:
tea tree oil - applied after cooling down after shower to full body
showering twice a day using tea tree shampoo all over and sometimes spraying as hot as you can stand all over then as cold as you can stand...not fun!!
baths with lavender epsom salts
lavender oil - full body
peppermint oil - full body - makes you cold though
bagging all rugs, clothes, shoes, anything fabric
eating tons of garlic
even tried sunburning my skin to burn those f***ers - don't recommend because sunburn left my skin itchy when it was healing and I wasn't sure if it was the scabies or the healing from the burn
DON'T GIVE UP - I felt extremely depressed and hopeless at times but kept fighting and about 2 months later I feel confident that I'm scabies free at last!!!
So frustrated that it took this much effort/money/time/sanity to get through this when I know that there was an easy cure out there from previous experience:(
I hope this helps!

Yep, unfortunately, I also agree that the tea tree oil doesn't seem to be curing it. It definitely helps the symptoms some I think.
I've also been swimming laps at night hoping all the chemicals would help.
Just heard cover yourself in petroleum jelly for three nights in a row. They can't breath supposedly.
So this is my next feeble attempt and I'm set to see a dermatologist.
My doctor said to leave the permetherin on for 8-12 hours so I left it on little over 12. Now I'm reading that it can be left on 24 hours??
So I'll ask the Derm. if I can try that.
There sounds like there's some risk with the Lindan but I definitely understand the desperation.
I think a family member may have gotten it despite all precautions. The dogs make it more difficult also. I'm concerned about work members.
If anyone figures it out pass it on right?
ok everyone I've heard all the horror stories so here is mine my mom and I took my niece in after she was kicked out of her home and she is trying to start her life over but had been hanging out in some low life friends trailer when I first saw her itching being a nurse I automatically thought that was what she had but she insisted it was her nerves after about a week we took her to a dermatologist for a scraping and she had an infestation and before long we all did after 2 and 3 treatments of the primethrecin creams they just came back with a vengeance here is what I have found those little devils have built up a resistance to that stuff the only thing found they have never built up resistance to is the enzyme/natural oils so we have been using the entire treatments and found it helpful from Accessneutriceuticals ( google and YouTube it) they explain it better than I can It has been working try it warning its not cheap to get rid of these things

I have been fighting this too. I have decided it is not scabies. Nothing works. I wash my hair with Hartz flea shampoo, and my body. I have used the lice shampoos, the 5% cream, Stromectol pill,( Stromectol worked pretty good, but not enough, think I needed a larger dose). I had scabies years ago, and they are easy to get rid of. These aren't and they leave deep holes in my skin. I am thinking it is some sort of desert mite, or flea. My thought is it might be the same thing my dog gets in the bottoms of his paws. Also, I can see little black spots, and sometimes shiney spots. Maybe this is an Arizona thing.
I have now tried Frontline Plus for dogs, just the smallest dose. I put in on the sores on my arms last night. Will have to wait and see what happens.

The Benzyl Alcohol 5% is used to kill head lice and from what I just read, is also used on scabies. But, I don't think a pharmacist mixes it, as it is sold under a brand name and requires a prescription. It works by stunning the mite, and it can't close its pores, and this med gets inside and kills the mite. It works the same way with head lice. I think they created this head lice med in 2009, probably because the permethrin was not working for head lice, as the lice have become immune to it. They also created an ivermectin lotion to treat head lice, too, not too many years ago, maybe about 3 years ago. Yes, these parasites are becoming immune to the permethrin.

Hello,

So I have been suffering this awful mite for at least a year now. At first I didn't think I had it (for months) I googled symptoms like eczema and stuff. But then I spread it to my later boyfriend and he went to the doctors they had said he had it but all they did was give him the cream and told him to use it twice. They gave him no other instructions.(I believe I got it from an ex who used to have itchy bumps on his stomach but still claims to this day that he doesn't have it and hasn't itched in years) or it could be this duplex I moved into a year and a half ago. The weird thing is though my roommates claim to not have gotten it and it seems like the only people who do are the people who have slept in my bed numerous times or had skin contact with me. I covered my bed and pillows with plastic months ago and make my own topical ointments to put on my skin (that I put on everywhere but my scalp). I don't have insurance so I just google things that may get rid of it and then buy them at outpost etc. I've tried tea tree, clove oil and buds, I even took a bath in Cayenne pepper (LET ME TELL YOU IT FELT LIKE I DID JUMP IN A VOLCANO) I also mixed together sesame seed oil, neem, grape seed oil, apple cider vinegar, sea salt baths, turmeric spice, zinc, I could go on and on. I even tried the cream my boyfriend got from the doctors and I used it more than directed (my bad) and it didn't work either. I bought lice and bed bug spray and sprayed my bed and carpet numerous times (i guess I'm dying young) and I wash all my stuff non stop.In hot water/dryer heat. Sometimes I think it has gone and then bam it comes back again. Me and that boyfriend have been broken up now and I started seeing someone else when I had thought it was gone and then he started itching really bad and now I'm getting it again.IT IS NEVER ENDING! I am a hairstylist and a server so I am always touching people and I cant just stop living life and now I'm moving back to my parents and they just re-carpeted my bedroom. I'm worried about spreading it to that house too and them and ruining my new carpet. What do I do now..after reading a lot of these posts I'm even more terrified and threw away my phone case because its something I touch all the time. Can I use bleach on a rad and just wipe down all my frequently used stuff and the bathroom and kitchen and just keep washing my stuff in hot heat and using my own mixture ointment? I am desperate but am running extremely low on money. I cant just not wear clothes and disappear for a month. OMG....

Spray a 1 part bleach/ 4 parts water mixture on your body after a shower and disinfect your house/belongings with a 50% bleach, 50% water solution and you will be well on your way to cured. Keep doing this until you no longer have symptoms. I just found out how effective bleach is against scabies this week. It works better than the perm cream because it kills on contact and its wayyy less toxic. Its also cheap and easy on the budget. Many on this forum have been cured by bleach. Look it up.

I have been dealing with this since at least Nov.2013. I started itching, down there, with what I though was a yeast infection. went to urgent care, dr. said it didn't look like scabies but thought it was cellulitous(spelling?) have me doxicycleen(spelling?) didn't help, though I knew it wasn't that...didn't look anything like that went to gyno ran tests. no yeast infection or bacteria. when to general pract. said she though it was scabies. did 2 different skin scrapings(INCORRECTLY) said not scabies but did the permethrin cream 2 times 2 weeks apart....cleaned like crazy...as best I could...nothing helped and the problem didn't go away...no breaks...nothing. went back to reg. dr. said it looked more like atopic derititus(spelling?) gave me some kind of meds...didn't work. went back to urgent care and the dr. said it was all in my head and sent me to mental health....where they said it wasn't scabies....FINALLY got in with the dermatologist and did a proper skin scraping and said yes it was scabies....gave me another tube of perm and 3 bottles of stromectol...my 7 yr old son and boyfriend of 12 yrs both went to their dr and they "looked" at them and said they don't have scabies. THE DRS WOULDNT TREAT THEM EVEN THOUGH I DO HAVE SCABIES...said until they show signs they will not treat them!!! WTF....needless to say I have not done the new bottle of perm or the other 2 doses of stromectol because I think they have it but aren't showing "typical" symptoms like I did. still have scabies and I think its turning into crusted. very dry skin...possibly scalely its at the point the itching is slight...I itch but its not like digging....but I do feel the crawling and biting all over the body...I have red pinpricks all over and I know they have went into my eyes, ears, face, nose, scalp, and mouth. they are everywhere! I called the cdc and all they said was that print out there scabies guidelines and take it to my son's and boyfriend's dr. my question is what do I do?!? son says he doesn't feel anything like I said...boyfriend says the same thing(he thinks I'm crazy) esp. when I show him these little black speck on me...plus I tell him I've actually seen the larvae come out of my fingers and hands...since I can see them the best...him and all these drs. say they are way to small to be seen and don't believe me. what does a person have to do?...let it get so bad and then "help" you?!? my question is what do I do? never treated the car...drs never said to do that....just said laundry clothes worn in last 3-4 days and vacuum and mop floors....that's it. questions...
1. what to use on the car(THAT ACTUALLY WORKS)
2. what to do about the house....we have NO carpeting...only the fake hardwood and laminate floors
3. what do about my son and my boyfriend(who both live in the house)

I am so desperate....need help....I'm at the point I think I might do the horse paste and cattle pour on.

Please only ideas to actually CURE not just help with the itching as I think this is turning into atypical scabies.

bleach does work! i have found it doesn't have to be that strong though.. for your skins sake! olive oil thick head to toe also brings to surface so you can get mite identified.. don't think it kills them though.. dawn does too! orange scented sprays help repel.. many carry these without symptoms! we all did in our house 8 months except our baby, and his symptoms were not classical scabies symptoms.. highly contagious! everyone around you needs to treat, including pets.. they don't live on pets but can pass through them! antihistamines help greatly in reducing symptoms.. bleach works for sure though!

vinegar/water 50/50 mix with little borax works very good spraying around house, beds, furniture, etc on helping eliminate quicker too without staining.. our house smells like big pickle, but it has worked! if u keep getting, eliminate as much contact w others until they start treating, whether they show signs or not.. and remember to spray vehicles and work areas, etc.. makes huge difference! can also sprinkle carpets n beds with borax n arm hammer detergent and leave for over night or couple days if no little kids or pets.. cation though, avoid getting on skin, it burns! don't do peroxide n borax or whatever, it is not good ideal! peroxide by its self doesn't burn, but doesn't work good though.. and dawn n bleach dries skin out quick and makes skin sensitive.. keep moisturized, antihistamines, and give skin break and let heal.. these are possible to beat! keep a can do attitude!
