Hellllo. So I'm a scabies noob, fortunately. I was diagnosed based on symptoms onMonday morning. Since then, I've vacuumed like mad, alcohol and lysol'd everything, washed sheets twice, bagged up pillows, sprayed shoes and vacuumed. I also left most items outside on my balcony overnight in 29 degree weather.

I applied permethrin Monday around noon and last night, after obsessively checking myself, I notice black/brown specks just under the skin on my hands. WHAT IS THIS WEIRDNESS?! Is it dead mites? Fecal matter, eggs? I just want to make sure this is normal. Anyone have any insight?! I appreciate any help and thanks in advance!

If you can look at it with a low power biological microscope, you can easily differentiate between feces or larva even though it is under the skin.

OK, thank you.
Is it common to have the fecal spots appear after permethrin? Wasn't sure if there's a "purging" of the skin at all... If anyone knows it'd ease my mind a bit!
Thanks!

I have tried permethrin a couple of times. It gave me some relief but no cure. I have found that the best cure so far and one that really works is sulfur soap and sulfur cream, I tried these things and they work they kill the scabies dead. They will not kill the eggs but you just have to keep using the soap and or the cream and scabies will be gone

OK, I'll try the permethrin cream first and if that doesn't work, I planned on trying the sulfur. I'm a bit neurotic when it comes to this kind of stuff already and tend to over spend on treatments (so I'm trying not to do that this time!) Thanks for the suggestion!

Back to the original question, though - Anyone experience these little black dots two DAYS after treatment? I'm kind of thinking that it's fecal matter or just dead mites purging. I have super sensitive skin, if that matters.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks again.

Hi I'm from Tn and I started having the scabies symptoms in april 2010. I have black specks under my skin and they are fibers. I took a sewing needle and just under the skin I can pull fibers out. They are not black though. I know they are not suppose to be there. Drs - no help. Take a bathe in hot water with about a cup of borax and see if black specks come out of your skin, if so, you have a more serious problem than scabies. Good luck.

dear Weirded out, yes i have heard of this happening. See if you can see a dermatologist with a lighted magnifier and see if s/he will confirm the presence of debris. Best of luck.

If you have fibers Yummy1210, you need to research Morgellens.
I too had black specks on my skin and also a day later. I saw them in the bottom of the tub when the last to the water drained out.(I had been soaking in sulferated lime dip.) This treatment is working the best for me after an entire array of permetherin cream, perithian dog shampoo, perithian dog dip, neem oil, oatmeal tea tree shampoo etc. Sulferated lime dip is killing them. I am going with the dip every 4 days then soothing oatmeal soap in between exfoliating with a scrunchie sponge then moisturizing. I can only hope it is dead scabies. I cannot find my jewelers loop. If anyone can see one of these things, I too would love to know.

Hi Alice, how long have you had scabies? Where do you get this "dip" you speak of. I have tried many things but I dont really think I have scabies. From what I can tell the first 4 Scabies treatments should have gotten rid of that. I have the black specks under my skin which could be mistaken for a dark freckle however, I have freckles on my face and only a few were on my body and I was already aware of there existance. So I know these new black spots (which usually run along my veins)are not suppose to be there. I don't self mutilate but I also have scars from in the past when I was being bitten and stung. It was bad until I treated my home/car with DE by sprinkling it about and then vaccuum up after 2 to 3 days. I was stung in my R nostril and now if I blow my nose black specks come out of that side. I was awaken by being stung in my throat on nite. Totally hurt and freaked out. Without Xanax I may be committed to mental facility in the beginning and while seeing several MDs who have vowed to actually care about our well being but took little interest in my problem. So sad. My mother has it too she told Derm Dr at major hillbilly hospital they will find one day they are wrong.

Geesh, I don't have fibers. Sorry that you do... that sucks.

They are small black specks. Sometimes I think this forum helps a lot (there are a lot of wonderful ppl here, so no offense) but MANY are nervous nellies that just make it worse for everyone else. Scabies is curable and I think with all of the right steps and precautions, it's actually an easy-ish thing to get rid of. Lets try and stay positive, ppl!

Yes this totally sucks yes it does! Let's look at a couple things:

1. The mights burrow, and as they do so - they leave fecal matter and eggs behind. I'm sure there's also some dead skin.

2. It is known that sometimes there will be something that appears to be graphite shavings with scabies.

3. The bumps and itch is an allergic reaction to all this debris left behind in our skin!

So - after insisting I was reinfected, my DR said that after the number of treatments I applied, that it is very highly unlikely. He felt it was an Eczema associated with post-treatment and post-scabies.

4. It is well known that post-symptoms can be nearly identical.

He prescribed two extremely strong topical steroids - that helped dramatically with the itching and the rash. Oddly, what I'm concerned with is - that it could mask symptoms. No worries, bumps I either did not notice or that hadn't developed yet surfaced.

I am sticking the promise to myself that I won't use another PERM treatment until my doctor says so. In the meantime, I'm getting very paranoid - and I have read the studies showing tea tree oil being effective. I've used this oil in the past (used to sell products that contain it - and no, I don't sell them anymore - so obviously, I'm not plugging them - sorry)- but for that reason, I know that tea tree oil is very strong and very potent. It can be used as a solvent, cleaner, anti-microbial agent (etc).

I buy some. My hands have always been the worst infected portion of my body. I apply it in the car. I arrive home, I apply a little more.

I start massaging bumps with it - and DARK STUFF pushes right out of my skin. It wasn't a gentle massage =) I was rubbing it in with my thumb. It's the same dark stuff that I saw from time to time after my first perm. treatment, only - multiplied greatly.

I THINK - active infestation or not - that the tea tree oil lubed up and loosened up the debris and with a little pressure - it slid right out. I believe the steroids settled the skin, so there was less pressure holding the matter in.

Best way to describe the dark stuff is that it looked like black heads on the nose - that sometimes build up so dramatically that they almost look like little hairs.

Heck. Maybe it was just dirt. I don't know.

Considering so many of us are experiencing this grime, and for the reasons mentioned above - i think it's safe to assume it's all inter-related.

I also WONDER if the Permethrin lotion SETTLES the skin while it's causing damage ...... thus after treatment, our skin declares war.

I have this too. black specks come out of my skin when I wash hands, oil or use temovate with aquaphor. I was diagnosed scabies back in late january. I have used permithrim treatment 4 times since. I wash everything with borax. ammonia, epsom salt, and tide on hot. I oiled woodwork in house with orange oil pledge, euctalyptus/lemongrass oil, and tea tree oil with water. I vacummed ceilings even after reading birmites.org What is this crap? I even have brown specks that are more triangular, and sometimes splinter looking! After 1 trip to er and 3 trips to dr, I finaly got rash relief from 6 day pack of prednisone. But now using citris message oil to keep skin whole...yet specks keep coming out. and there are white things too. I am so sick of this! Trying not to be hysterical! I can't deal with this and manage my life responsabilities...but we are talking about granual like things coming out of our skin, that may be bugs hatching?! Kind of intense and I would say a big deal!!!! I go to dermatologist soon, I hope to find answers. Also I tried endomologist from purdue who said the black specks looked like scaley skin particles? Maybe due to allergies? No help from 2 vets with my dog, orkin (I looked into possibilities of bed bugs), or anyone else. Did any of you ever figure this out?
