Hi! My family and I have been struggling w/ scabies for more than 6 months. It's on our heads, and we can't seem to get rid of them!! We soak our head every day in Borax, Sea salt, and Hydrogen peroxide... But it doesn't seen to be working. We have also tried essential oils, scabiesin shampoo, coal tar shampoo, head and shoulders shampoo, and even sulphur (which took DAYS to get out.) I really need some help guys! Do you know a cure that gets scabies/bird mites off the head? Thanks!!

I am having the same problem and going to try medicinal turpentine in my hair. Did you ever get rid of the scabies in your scalp? If so, please let me know exactly what you did. I too am looking for a cure. Please help me with advice is you can.

Right along with you wantmylifeback......I was using H&S but didn't help.....just started selsun blue....maybe it will do something!? I've been dealing with this since at least Nov......son and boyfriend dont have it....SO THEY SAY....but I've tried perm2X 2weeks apart.....stromectol once....not helping....not at all...cleaned as best I could...but doesn't seem to do anything. supposed to go back to the derm tomorrow to find out my results from my biopsy even though they already have proof its scabies....problem is...its gotta be in the house somewhere or car or something.....I've got them everywhere....any suggestions?! Also....son and boyfriend's drs. "LOOKED" at them and said they dont have scabies....and wont treat them unless they start showing symptoms...what!!!!! that is so...I dont even know what. If you have any helpful suggestions or tips....that would be great. Also what should I use to treat my house? We have no carpeting only hardwood and laminate floors...also our washer and dryer are in a room that is all concrete...how do you treat that!? Thanks a bunch!!!!!

How long have you had scabies...I'm going on 7 months of hell. Most people don't realize that as long as your still infected in your hair. No matter how much you clean you will still be infected until you get them out of your hair. That is my problem now. I have been treating my body and could not understand why i was not getting rid of it. Lo and behold they are on my scalp. Had a few on my neck, behind my ears and along the hairline. When scabies go above the neck its a whole different ball game because you have to treat the scalp, face, ears and neck; very difficult. I would not be concerned with the concrete floor since its a hard surface. I would just vaccum, clean your bedding and change clothes daily. Also don't forget about your shoes. I wear Crocs because you can wipe them down. Hope this helps. I keep praying for a cure and hope the turpentine works in my hair.

I noticed the problem back in November 2013....who knows...could have been going on before that. I went to several doctors' finally they said it was a case of scabies....gave me 2 tubes of perm...but never said do your face or head...even though I had rashes on my face.....then I cleaned like crazy...but it wouldn't go away...it was like I didn't do anything at all you know!? Had my 7 year old son checked out as well as my boyfriend of 12 years....both live in the same house as I do.....the doctors looked at them....if that is what you want to call it and said no they don't have scabies....wouldn't even treat them until they show signs. I don't get that one....anyways....went to other doctors' at urgent care and they had the nerve or tell me it's all in my head and sent me to mental health, where they said the same thing. Finally got a referral to a derm. and she did a proper skin scraping and sure enough.....scabies.....gave me one more bottle of permethrin and 3 doses of stromectol.......did the stromectol and nothing.....tried cleaning as best I could.....but still nothing. On Jan. 24th they did a biopsy on my back and I'm going back tomorrow morning to get results because nothing is helping. Tried borax/hp baths....I didn't notice any change...still getting pin pricks and crawling all over....I know they are literally everywhere.....doctors' don't seem to really care about what people are going through....if you show typical symptoms....maybe....that's a big maybe....when its like me....forget it...I think its so sad. I have tried vaccumming but with have a non carpeted house it kind of just blows it out the back....then we Swiffer the house and just doesn't seem to do anything.....I put a plastic cover over my bed but its not the zippered kind....that is probably a problem....doctors' never told me to treat out cars....another problem...I'm sure....plus doctors' wont treat ALL members of this house. The day I took my stromectol I went and took our cat the the vet for her 1st shot of iver....2nd dose tomorrow...sadly...we are running out of money because of all this. I'm ready to just give up...seems never ending. Boyfriend thinks I've totally lost it but I think I know my body more than anyone else. I'm down to 2 pairs of clothes that I wear, one pair of pj's, and 3 pairs of shoes...all that get washed and dried daily....threw out my pillows and have 1 blanket...washed and dried everyday. been using bleach on the plastic cover everyday and using Lysol wipes constantly....getting really tired of all this esp. since drs. wont treat everyone here. I'm thinking of trying the oral horse paste and cattle pour on at this point if the doctors wont help. I also was thinking about the Adv. Blue for dogs....? Who knows.....couldn't hurt to try...right? What is the deal with the turpentine? How do you use that just pour it on or what? Sorry so long.....trying to get everything out as bf is pretty tired of hearing me talk about this....it really does control everything in your life wouldn't you say? Anyways...again...thanks for replying....anything is helpful.

Hey ladies, have you ladies tried alcohol on your scalp? If you spray your scalp with alcohol at night sleep with it on and then again in the am. It kills them I know someone who cured them on her scalp using it 2x a day for 7 days. Also make sure you blow dry your hair on the hottest setting and flat iron your hair it will kill any eggs that might be on your hair. Good luck

I know how you feel...no one in my house including my hubby wants to hear it either. It's tough when you have no one to talk to. Thank goodness for this forum. The full protocol for the Advantix II is on the imidicloprid thread. It also contains 45% permethin. You can mix some RID shampoo with it to boost the effects of the permethrin. In regards to the turpentine, I ordered it on line from a company called HUMCO. Your not suppose to apply it directly without diluting it with either a carrier oil or conditioner since it can burn you. I'm in no way telling you what to do just trying to help. It's hard to keep up with everything but don't give up. Hopefully we will all see the light at the end of the tunnel soon. By the way, where do you live? Keep me posted and let me know what your going to do. I'll include you in my prayers.:)

Sorry took so long to get back to ya....been busy today...had my appt. with the derm today but she wasn't even there...she was in meetings today....they got my results from my biopsy back and said..."good news...really good news....we found no evidence of scabies or anything." I said I don't believe that.....a lot of biopsy's come back negative when you have active scabies....so she said that the dr said it was dermatitis(spelling?) and I said....no I don't believe that...soooo.....she was gonna give the dr a note and they would call me by Tuesday.....made a 4 week appt. follow-up but the nurse said it would probably be sooner since nothing has changed. Plus I had class today(college) that was fun to sit through....not really....anyways...I will def. check out that thread. And yes!!!! This forum is a blessing...so glad I found it...nice to know there are others out there with the same problem!!! Makes me feel alittle better...BTW I'm in southern Illinois. Hope to hear from ya soon!!!!

Hey ladies, I have tried Extra strength Desenex, apple cider vinegar, coconut shampoo and conditioner, ponds hair dressing with clove oil, cayenne pepper and hair gel or a swimmers gel. I like Desenex and the hair gel the best it was the least painful thing to use and I felt 100% better after a week of egg hatching. I still use the coconut shampoo and conditioner along with dead sea salt and peroxide rinse in the tub.

I have heard somethings about Dead Sea Salt...don't know where to get it though. Wal-Mart maybe? I have recently started using Selsum Blue w/menthol.....only 3 days though so can't say if it is working or not yet. Never heard of Desenex either...where are you getting these from? I have long hair as well....mid back length....I think I might need to cut it shorter...maybe that would help. Please let me know!:) Thanks!

My sister gave me dead sea salt scrub for Christmas. The only thing it did was make my sores super irritated and my skin was a mess. I thought it was pretty damaging.

I also have them on my head and face, ears. I have yet to see a doctor who will acknowledge that they go there!

Now I agree with the clove oil. Out of all the natural stuff... sulfur, DE, blah blah blah, that seemed to help the most for providing a good knockdown. But not a cure. I even started recently taking clove capsules and feel like things have gotten better, but not significantly so I can't really be sure.

Clove is hard to take, it does sting and burn especially if your skin is damp. At this point, I have so few bumps that emerge anymore, and when they do, I use straight clove oil on a Q-tip dabbed directly on the bump, even on my scalp and face. Dries it up and I guess I hope that it gets in the skin and kills whatever is in there. Don't know for sure.

All this is just to be comfortable. You need to get ivermectin/permethrin or follow the albendazole thread to get cured.

Oh I know they go on the face, scalp, nose, ears, even eyes....I have them there as well as every where else it seems....I've done stromectol one and permethrin twice....didn't help at all....tried borax/HP baths a few times....didn't see much difference. I have 2 more doses of stromectol and one bottle of permethrin left....waiting on my derm to call back by Tuesday....hopefully they can get me in before my 4 week follow-up in MARCH....I've been dealing with this since at least Nov. but who knows....could of been going on since before that never really know....supposedly my son and bf aren't showing symptoms and their drs wont treat them until they do....go figure that one out. So far nothing has helped....not even a little.....got our cat treated as well with 2 different shots of iver. I think my scabies is starting to effect her as her nose is very red and she has some hair loss there....that's new...noticed it yesterday when I took her to get her 2nd shot....plus did all the cleaning I could think of....but drs never said treat the car...just put/take the pills and cream.....repeat in 1-2 weeks....wash all clothes and bedding....vacuum the floors(we have no carpetsm) only hardwood....and use a Lysol wipe on some things you have touched within the last couple of days....didn't seem to help so all suggestions are welcomed. Thanks for replying btw!!!!

I know how hard it is because I did all that too. It's over 1.5 years now for me and MANY doctors. I'm at a point now where my symptoms are very minimal compared to what it was but I think I keep getting it back from my boyfriend. He only did the minimal treatment with stromectol/permethrin. I on the other hand have probably over treated myself but then again, I'm still having some symptoms though very very very minimal now.

My boyfriend and I got it from a hotel visit (in Deerfield since you're from IL), and it showed up strongly about a month after that and eventually my sons got it but only lightly. I was covered in itchy, crawly painful sores and even had an infec disease doc tell me it was delusional (one of my own docs by the way, I work in healthcare). It was infuriating.

I never went nuts on the cleaning, just a little. I thought that what I needed to focus on was bed and where I spend most of my time. I never felt like my total environment was contaminated. They want to be on your body, not off your body and once off they don't live long. I minimized where I spent time, one chair non upholstered. All clothes and bedding went in the dryer to heat up before using. I did buy Bedlam to use on my chair at work and car seats as a precaution, but I never felt like there were issues there. Kept my dirty clothes in a large container in the basement with a lid on it so it is away from my kids' stuff. Wash in hot if I can, if can't, hang in basement separately and don't wear for at least 5-7 days, using the dryer right before wearing. Some of the overboard cleaning and steaming that people do to combat this I think gets obsessive and makes you feel insane. It's just my opinion and I don't hold anything against anyone that they feel they need to do.

But getting back to the point of this, I have found it hardest to eliminate it from my head and face. I get allergic feelings in my skin and end up with new bumps mostly around my eyebrows and ears. I wish I had the answer. Don't know if you read the albendazole thread, but that is what I'm considering next. Though there are side effects and it seems people there attack you if you talk about them, but they are something to consider.

I had 2-3 different drs say that I was delusional I knew I wasn't ....derm did a scraping and found a mite.....so hahaha too them. But.....my problem is just cant get rid of them....it scares me because the itch isn't "intense" I guess you'd say...its a quick itch but all over and more pin pricks and crawling....I got these little tiny red.....bites I'd say....like where they bit to get under the skin all over.....my skin...ugh....I can take my hand to my legs or back or face ....or wherever and its just a bunch of skin flakes....sooooo scared its turning into the crusted kind....no matter how much lotion(St. Ives) cant keep any moisture in my skin....plus my scalp is hard and my hair will fall out in clumps....stress from this or is it that bad on my scalp? who knows....I'm not sure where Deerborn, IL is...I'm more southern IL....1hr from St. Louis, MO. I would try the Albendazole but no money right now until I get my taxes and student loan money back in 2-3 weeks....so that is not good. Waiting. I was considering going to a hotel for like a month but I don't want to give this to someone else....wouldn't wish this on anyone!!! Plus....my son has school and bf has work and school as well. I don't see how something SO small can cause such a HUGE problem!

i doubt your boyfriend and son have them. don't obsess over their not being treated. focus on yourself. use only whole leaf aloe vera gel everywhere, except for internal areas. when they run, you'll know it. rub in the WLAVG in those areas. it's actually good for your skin. no smell either. in eyes use a solution containing boric acid (someone else suggested a drop of ivermectin-worth considering but resistance is possible), in ears something like a tea tree oil and coconut oil mixture, in vagina-once again-a boric acid solution (this is old school treatment for vaginitis). for the inside and outside of the tip of your nose, you'll have to apply something often, like sulfur ointment mixed with castor oil, but the key is really to apply often. for scalp it's either a boric acid solution or whole leaf aloe vera juice, depending on your hair type. the juice can get sticky.
good luck.
I think Katee is right, the bugs are inside you, they have no interest in your upholstered furniture or closet full of shoes.

I know....I've had so many people tell me not to worry about them not getting treated and that they don't have it....just kind of hard not to...I worry a lot anyways...lol...could ya tell...this just messes with your mind and emotions so much...just don't want them to have it or catch it. I'm gonna go shopping for some of the things mentioned real soon. I've heard about the aloe vera gel....I think I actually might have some here ....used it over the summer for sunburns...have to check....up until I joined this forum, if I wasn't going to dr appts I stayed in my room and only left to go to the bathroom or to get something small to eat and drink. Everyone here has been very helpful and super supportive!!!!:) Glad I found this place....or IDK what....probably would have lost my mind completely.Oh yeah I found De La Cruz 10% sulfur ointment from Walgreens but I have to order it online...no stores around here have it in stock.
