I was wondering if anyone else has experienced a rash only in certain areas, or, if with time, it eventually is all over the body? If it does 'spread' how long from the 1st symptoms does it typically take until the whole body has marks/rashes/bumps? I ask, b/c as some who have read my posts may know, I am not 100% sure I am battling scabies, have had 3 diagnosises (the dr in the urgent care ctr said,'well, we'll treat you as if you have scabies', w/o really looking at me for more than a brief moment- I've also heard 'viral rash' from my primary, as well as,'relax honey, it's excema' from the p.a. at the derm).

The raised portion of my rash is confined to my spine, and behind my knees (which is where this whole thing started), waist/abdomen where my pants waistband hits, under breasts and along the sides of my neck behind my ears-tho the area behind my ears is clearing. I am beginning to think that I have exacerbated the rash with the use of 100% undiluted tea tree oil applied with a q-tip as well as in bath, and mixed with shampoo as a body wash. However, my arms, legs, hands & face have thus far been spared. This problem began on 12/23, would the rash/bumps be more widespread by now?

Any insight, anyone?? I'm going nuts! Thanks!!

The areas where you describe symptoms are classic scabies sites. But it could be something else.

If you have bumps in a S or C shape line with any dark dots in the middle, carefully pick some out and put them under a microscope, this could be a mite. If it's scabies you'll also have dark specks around the dots, this is mite poop.

Thanks MK- tho I'm not excited to hear that the sites are 'classic'. I was hoping without involvement of my hands/wrists maybe I was way off base with the thought of scabies? Actually, the first thing the derm did was check my hands/wrists. The Dr at the urgent care had me hold my hands out, too, but I think b/c I was so panicked at that point, he just wanted me out of there, so I'm not comfortable with his 'we'll treat you as if' statement. Ok, lets' treat me as if I have malaria, too, ya know what I mean?

I have looked for the black specks/dots I keep reading about. I haven't found any. I thought maybe I had one in a bump under my breast but it might have been lint or something from my shirt as I tend to wear black alot. It just rubbed right off. I'll keep trying, tho... Thanks for the advice, MK.

As for classic sites for scaibes, places where the skin creases or are covered with a tight fitting clothing or jewelery are places mites like to colonize, burrow or moult. Some MD's don't think adults get scabies on their hands, feet, face or scalp. The truth is the mites can end up anywhere on a host, even in the nose, ears, around eyes and private parts. A magnifying glass will give a better view of the skin.

It's better to to treat a possible case of scabies than not treat. Scabies multiply and spread very quickly.

Thank you so much for taking time to answer me, MK. I am 'treating' with TTO, borax/peroxide, epsom salts, sulfa8, borax in the wash and carpets, lysol, alcohol on the vinyl bed cover - basically all the 'home' remedies that I've read some people say are junk and others swear it cured them when all else has failed. I did get a px for Elemite from the urgent care doc but am afraid to put it on in the event I don't have scabies- have read that it and/or ivermectin makes your skin feel even more itchy/bitey/crawly?? Ugh, I'm so lost.

MK if you (or anyone who'd like to chime in) could answer one more thing, maybe- since you did say they multiply so quickly, wouldn't my body be covered in welts/rashes by now if this has been going on since 12/23? And, like I said, the area behind my ears is very clear now, just alot of dry skin from the TTO which I can flake off pretty easily. Am I maybe 'curing' myself with the home remedies since I perhaps caught this so quickly?? Man, I hope so...

Cant take this,

If you have scabies, those home treatments are just fine but if used in conjunction with a traditional treatment. In studies, TTO kills sarcoptic mites, but that's when they are swimming in the stuff so it may kill the surface crawlers.

Lets say you have scabies and have been doing alot of bathing and environment cleaning but not using a scabicide. It's possible you're keeping the mites numbers down. 12/23, that's only about 3 weeks since you first noticed bumps, right? I had a burrow on my foot for about a month and thought that was going to be all. Kept it covered in TTO/alcohol. But Nooooo, it spread.

If I were in your place, I'd do the Elimite(permethrin 5%) treatment full body(including face and scalp)along with the cleaning and changing cloths and bedding.

IMO, the top reason the skin would seem more itchy after using a topical scabicide or systemic treatment is:

The mites are dead and breaking up. Their dead body parts and debris are causing an allergic itching reaction as the body rejects them and they work up to the skins surface

and at least one follow-up treatment a week or so after the first treatment.

I don't take any prisoners.

I would use TTO with other known scabies meds as mite killer mentioned. Can't give up one day of the fight or the mites will just come back. Waging war on these things takes awhile to win. It's a long fight and there are no easy fix it quick rememdies..

Thanks MK and Al-
I slacked off last night with the TTO application and today I did not apply it full strength to the itchy spots- only used it mixed with shampoo as a body wash. I was partially experimenting as I thought maybe it (TTO) was making the rash worse. Today the rash has spread on my back and I think I noticed it on the front of my neck/throat.

I could just about jump off a bridge. This is by far the most horrible thing I have ever been through, and I was almost killed in a car accident when I was younger! At least with those injuries I could follow a healing process. This, it's like one step forward, a jillion steps back. I guess I'll get the Elimite px filled asap. I'm hoping my environment cleaning is up to par. I don't vacuum every day, probably every other day, but keep borax in the carpets. I did sleep in my bedding 2 nights in a row, cuz I was feeling better, in a way. Jeez, my friend convinced me to bug bomb my apartment b4 I left for work this morning! I know, I know.....

I know it's horrible but the mites will die so don't jump off a bridge.

When you say rash, do you see any bumps in a line, S or C shape? or a track pattern? any crusting?

Borax can sit in the carpet until you're ready to vacuum, then put more down. The common thought is that it dries up the mites.

I can't Take This. don't be afraid to apply the permethrin. It will not hurt you. Also, I don't know if anyone mentioned by I think you should take 2 doses of ivermectin, in addition to applying the permethrin. Many people on this forum have been cured using ivermectin. These mites are becoming resistant to the meds, including permethrin. but you just started with this, so you may able to beat it with just permethrin.

I know, I'm being dramatic- but geez this makes u so desperate!! No, I don't see anything in a c or s shape. Never have. The rash varies in appearance, the ones on my legs were never raised or 'bumpy' and it are completely gone so I am really thinkin I created it with TTO. The bumps I do have are flesh colored, not red, unless I scratch which I try not to, then the whole area turns red of course. I did notice last night that 2 of the bumps now have no rash around them at all, and are a faint brownish color. Before, I was just smearing 100% TTO on the 'bumps' kind of haphazardly so I think, again, I made the rash worse. I have been very careful to only hit the bump itself with TTO the last 2 days. Yep I let the borax sit till I vacuum.

This is so crazy!! Thank you so much for all of your valuable input, MK!! I do appreciate it. PS and by the way, are you cured, by any chance??? I hope you are or will be very soon.

Oh, and no, no crusting. Some spots where I scratch alot are rough, that's it.

I have read about the ivermectin tho nobody has told me directly to use it. Do you know if it is the permethrin or the ivermectin that gives the horrible post scabies reaction? I am very paranoid about that, tho I'm so paranoid about everything right now.

Thanks for helping calm my fears about the perm, S3. I just don't want anything else making my skin look crazier than it does.(I know, vanity should have been out the window the moment this started)

try neem with eucalyptus oil soap. i get them at a store in iselin, nj. What you can prob. do is just grab eucalyptus oil, maybe from Vitamin Shoppe? Also in the mean time grab Gold Bond Extra Strength Lotion (has menthol in it) It moisturizes the skin and one way for us to attack scabies lol.

post scabies reaction? like what? crawlies? itchies? ivermectin could cause that, but it helps kill the adults in your skin, the ones burrowed there laying eggs...

Yes the crawlies & itching, along with new bumps even after being cured. I've read so much it's hard to remember it all, although I am grateful for all of the advice & input.

Nilesh, are you cured? Good advice on your other post on how to get them out of the environment. I had good results with the Raid Fumigator bombs too.

Don't worry, I know what you mean! I had scabies during a very hot summer about 7 years ago when I was staying in my dad's trailer. We didn't have any air conditioning except a stupid fan which we battled over. We both were infested, from head to toe, between our fingers, toes, all over... It was so itchy, so horrible. We had to use cream daily, bathing each other in it from head to toe and we had this crap for a month and had to bomb our whole house to kill the rest of them...

I always said that was HELL!!!! And I wouldn't wish it on my worse enemy... NOW I THINK I GOT IT AGAIN !!!! I'm such a very clean person, even OCD, but I think I got it from a family member! But I'm not sure because I could just be paranoid. Unfortunately, I can't goto a doctors to find out. I see some very small itchy bumps but they don't remind me too much of scabies, but then again they sort of do, so I'm confused.

I've been searching the web trying to find help but I think I'm just going to have to get to a doctors or wait it out and see what happens, but I don't want it to spread. I'm so worried :(

I share your pain!

I'm sorry

I'm sorry to hear you may be battling scabies again after all those years! I hope and pray that you are not. If getting to the doctor for a diagnosis is not possible right now, scan this forum for things you can do until then- there are some things you can buy locally (tea tree oil, neem, sulfur perhaps) or online that can probably help keep the numbers down if/until you find out for sure. As for myself, I don't know for sure if I have scabies. Never had any type of scraping or anything, was told 'possible scabies' at the urgent aid center because I was panicky when I went in and pretty much told them that's what I thought. They encouraged me to keep my derm appt for the next morning, and, two derm visits later the dermatologists office insists exzema. It's not easy. I understand the not wishing it on your worst enemy part. I sympathize with you.
