Hi,

My wife and I just found out we have scabies and we live in a small apartment. I am thinking the easiest way to eradicate them is with a steam vapor (dry) cleaner like the vapamore. I think it would be the easiest way to do whole place (carpets, furniture, beds, floors, clothing, shoes, ect). Does anyone have any experience with these (not the same as carpet steam extractors)cleaners?

We will be doing our second round of perm next week and I would like to sanitize and eradicate on the same day. I would do the car the same day. We are already laundering like crazy and have plastic mattress, pillow protectors, but it is an uphill battle.

The vapor cleaners use little water so everything stays fairly dry which is good since mights like moisture.

Please let me know if anyone has experience with vapor cleaners and fighting scabies.

I will be using the cleaner next week and post results.

Thanks to all for you posts, it has been really helpful to us.

I've heard that is a good way to treat the environment, but only if the steamer you get is capable of getting really hot, and doesn't raise the humidity. I haven't tried it yet myself, and have to say I had a bad experience in ordering a unit called "vaporstorm" through a website called steamcleanersplus.com . The unit was expensive, there were shipping delays, it finally arrived and didn't work (not even turn on). Then they were snarly when I requested a number to return it. I'm waiting for my refund now, but if all goes as previous, am a little skeptical. That said, I'm sure there are really good products out there..just avoid that one!! Good luck.

I had my carpets professionally steam cleaned with the hottest water. They heated their own water. They also used a pestiside of some sort. It along with elimite cream was the only things that ended the hell of 1 1/2 yrs of Scabies. The elimite cream and just vacuuming didn't get it.

We bought the Reliable Enviromate E3 Steam Vapor Cleaner from http://www.vapor-systems.com/products/envirom... about a year ago. Good company. This cleaner works because the tip temperature is above 212 degrees. I do our 1800 sq. feet house floors in about an hour using the floor attachment.

Temperature extremes do kill them. My wife keeps her shoes in the freezer in a plastic zip-lock. Another tip, when your car is infested, and it will be, put in out in the sun on a warm day with the windows closed. The extreme heat will kill them.

This time around I'm having my seats reupholstered in vinyl to help keep them away from my clothes and body. And putting A&H under my floor mats in the car and spraying it down with peppermint after cleaning the car out.

That sounds like a good steam cleaner at a good price $400. A friend bought another brand for $1200 before she found cedarcide fogger.
Steam your car seatbelts, backpack straps, etc.
