I have been dealing with scabies for months now - unbeknownst to me. What I originally that was jock itch, turned out to be scabies...five months after the rash and itching started (and after I spent tons of on doctors visits and failed treatments). Once I was diagnosed I started treating everything. I've quarantined just about all of my clothes, vacuumed and steamed cleaned (with Clorox cleaner) my floors, my bed and sofa are covered in plastic and hosed down with Colorox cleaner daily. Nothing is used more than once (i.e. towels, bed sheets) without being washed and dried on high heat for 30 minutes or put in the freezer in Zip-lock bags for two days. I stopped using my car this week and I walk to work and the grocery store. I've taken Ivermectin twice now and treated myself with Permethrin twice. My last treatment consisted of me cleaning my entire house from pillar to post - cleaning everything with bleach cleaner and re-doing all of my laundry (which is stored in plastic bins - the bins were treated too). After about 15 hours of cleaning, I scrubbed myself with neem oil soap (though I only typically use sulfar soap) and then applied a hefty coating of Permethrin cream all over my body. The following morning I woke up, took the Ivermectin as directed and let the Permethrin cream stay on 8.5 to 9 hours - I would have kept it on longer, but it was making me feel very sick. Since then I have kept up with treating my home and doing the "scabies routine" nightly. I wash...err, scrub my body with sulfur soap twice daily. It is now 5 days after my most heroic cleaning effort and treatment to date. However, I'm feeling these strange crawling sensations and what feels like pin pricks all over my body and not just in the usual scabies haunts. I don't itch at night, but these pin pricks and crawling sensations are bad. I don't see any more bites (track marks as I call them) and like I said, I don't itch. Is what I'm feeling a side effect of the Permethrin? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks!-Max.

Hi Max,

I've had pinprick sensations and crawling for years. I don't recommend that you ignore it. Just keep treating. Try bleach baths, perhaps order the sardex benzyl benzoate spray, ivermectin horse paste, read the forums or just keep cleaning at the very least. Do not ignore them.

The side effects I had from perm were like weird tingles, especially if I went out in the sun or left it in too long. And extreme laziness. I also got a weird rash when I would go running on the treadmill, that was in between my legs and would itch pretty bad. I'm not sure what that was actually. Perm makes you itch more, I feel like it makes the scabies leave their burrows. But once it's gone, they want to go back in, hence the crawling and pin pricks. I really feel like the pin pricks are them.

Sulfur soap helps calm down ur skin, but it hasn't cured me.

I hope you didnt catch scabies from my last apartment Lol, round rock is pretty close!!

The pin prick sensations is a good sign of active scabies. Another sign of active scabies is pin prick itching at night time as scabies are more active during the evening hours.

Give your skin time to heal. The pin pricks don't necessarily mean active scabies, neither does crawling. I never experienced either of those sensations until AFTER I did the permethrin treatments. I noticed that I became hypersensitive to chemicals after my treatments, and found that moving away from chemicals in my home and body seemed to speed the healing process. I was absolutely convinced that I still had scabies after my treatments, but I didn't. So glad I didn't follow the drastic measures some people say to do on this forum! But a lot of it is just being patient and letting the itchies run their course. But see a dermatologist if you need to be reassured that they are gone. You need to rebuild your immune system. I also noticed that I started feeling a lot better when I started treating myself and my environment for possible fungal infection, which I think was a secondary infection from the scabies. It's helped a lot. A whole lot! Sulfur helped me for a while, but I stopped using it. Down to one shower a day, just use a small amount of regular soap for sensitive skin. But still wash my bedding daily. Clove oil on rashes, also sulfur ointment (you can make your own with powdered sublimed sulfur and Vaseline), and take oil of oregano pills. I've also read that selenium is good for the crawling sensations. I take 200 mg at night. Also shampoo hair with a dandruff shampoo. Good luck!

Any update Max? I believe that my scabies is gone, but I also get the pin prick feelings and I do still itch around my breasts and abdomen when I am trying to go to sleep. The itching is NOTHING like it was prior to scabies. Hope you are doing well.

Unfortunately I don't have much time to give a really lengthy reply - I'm at work and have a really busy week ahead of me. I've been meaning to hop back on here and post on my status and give some treatment suggestions.

First of all, don't believe everything you read on the internet. Second of all, don't take every response you read in forum like this one to heart. Everybody's situation is different and some people are just negative...more about that later...

It is now what, three months since I posted my question in this forum. I have been scabies free since April and haven't had a re- infestation since.

I will post a detailed account of my situation and the way I treated my scabies this weekend. In the meantime, the best thing you can do is GO SEE A DERMATOLOGIST! Find a dermatologist in your area who can do a skin scraping (scabies test). The skin scraping can help give you the peace of mind (or the help you need to treat your situation) that you're looking for.

PS.
Not itching at night is a very good sign that your condition is improving. I still itch like crazy (mainly on my shins) from time-to-time, but it's just the residuals of the scabies. I figure each layer of skin I shed I'm going to itch a little till everything is completely out of my skin. I'll post a detailed account of my situation and how I treated myself this weekend. Good luck!

Hi Max Ty for your time and words. Well I am still dealing with crawling but I never wait more than a week and then I treat myself again bc I hate this crawling and pinprick...although is a lot less than a month ago. I have to stop my iver shot and also the iver pour on otherwise I will damage my liver. Have been treating for about 2 months now but had it for about 5 months not knowing what it was. I was showing atypical scabies. Not many bites burrow and a lot on my scalp. This week I am going natural. A mix of tea tree oil clover balsam of Peru every day on my skin as a repellent. Sea salt bath with drops of pennyroyal oil. And antibacterial soap.
Taking vitamins: multivitamin + neem+garlic+golden seal+ turmeric + pepper+ selenium.
I just started cannot say much. Have no burrows or bites it has been 2 weeks now. I hope I am on post. Reading you gave me hope. I am praying too bc I know I am mentally exhausted and my mind is fooling me maybe. And also my body is reacting to chemicals. It is just the crawling that when happens make me scratch and few pinpricks here and there.
Anyway I am happy thatv are feeling normal...that is such a blessing.

The pin prick type itching is a sure sign of active scabies as post scabies would feel like regular itching which is associated with your skin being allergic to the mites or debris trapped under the skin. Best time to watch for active scabies itching is during the evening hours when scabies are most active.

My scabie have been gone, but bumps will comeback. If I dont itch them they will be gone by the next morning. If I do itch them the bump will get red and expand somewhat like a mesquito bite. Those usually leave in 2 days. I still feel the pin prick feeling once in awile. Post scabies is a bitch but having scabies is a living nightmare. I am still paronoid considering everytime I see somebody I notice everytime they itch or have the littlest thing on their skin...

How are you doing? Still feeling crawlies? I am still feeling them but less intensively. I couldnt hold myself and I started doing benzemul BB and it stop the feelings. Now funny thing is I know iver and perm do the same thing they stop any feeling but they have anti-itching properties and who knows what else Now being BB less toxic I have no idea why is working. If I was in Kat scabies this thing shouldnt work in these symptoms? I hate this SC so much bc one never know when everything is gone. Sucks.

Yeah, I feel them when my skin is dry or I haven't taken a shower that day. I dunno. My skin is clearing up though. One step at a time. I'm doing better overall though and there are somedays I wonder whether it was real or not.

I'm about to order the benzemul lotion, tons of it, and do it from top to bottom... I am waiting till after I move to do that though.

2 MONTHS BATTLE BUT I WON!
Two very horrible, stressful, expensive, scary and uncomfortable months of having scabies. I am writing this only to help everyone who is in their battle looking for answers and solutions. I spent hours looking for help here on the web only to found people in despair and at their wits end. Here is my story and what (finally) worked for me:
At first I noticed myself getting extremely itchy in my armpits and my belly button. That went on for a few days and then went to the dermatologist. I was misdiagnosed for something else. My itchyness start then moved to my privates (front and back) and it was impossible to sleep at night. I then noticed a mark on my inner thigh and was told I had scabies.
I went thru 6 permatrin and 3 doses of ivermectrin over the next 8 weeks. These only worked for about a day or so and then the itchyness came back.
My dermatogist said we would only prescribe one more round and then I would have to get a second opinion.
I read so many people with different home remedies and thought they were all nuts. But then it dawned on my that I was turning into one of those people. LOL. I was turning desperate and losing hope. I bought sulphur soap and tea tree oil. I donít really thing that was working but honestly didnít give it a long try. And I think you need to stick with it for a few weeks. Bleh.
I read about neem oil working for people and being a natural way to get rid of them. I donít know how I ended up at a home depot site, but I found a product Organic Neem Oil Extract for getting rid of ďspiderĒ mites and other insects in gardens. I didnít want to wait for a product off the internet so I went to home depot and bought it. That night I put three cap fullís in a hot bath and started soaking in it. As I was in the tub I was reading the warning label and it was saying stuff like ďdonít get it on your skinĒ and if you do wash off with water for 20 minutes. I started to freak out. I was only in there for a few minutes and rinsed off. That night I was feeling really sick and was kind of worried. I stayed home from work the next day cuz I still didnít feel so well. It really did a number on me. But I have to say, it got rid of my scabies. Do I recommend it? Probably not cuz I have no idea what long term damage I did, But honestly I was at my wits end and was about to try anything.
The next few weeks I got a total of about 5 bumps. I was also having weird crawling sensations also. Each time this happened I would freak out but decided to test out this ďpost scabiesĒ theory and didnít treat it. I think a good way to know if you have been ďcuredĒ is if you itch intensely at night or not. Anyhow, the bumps stopped happening and I no longer itch for feel those crawly sensations.
One of my big concerns was if I was giving it to others or not. Just so you know, I live in an apartment and have my own room and my own bathroom and didnít give it to my roommate (thank god). I didnít take any chances and avoided the common areas as much as I could.
I hope this helps people. I feel you should write your success story so others have some hope too. It was such a scary thing for me. I am glad its over. Good luck to those in need!!

I thought I was post. Really did. I wasn't itching at night. But crawling and pinprick were killing me so I did the castor oil test. Leave on for like 15 minutes and things started to come out. Like sand. White stuff some darker. And then next day I did some more and saw less specks. Anyway so I freaked out and did a borax - peroxide bath and voila it showed a big bite on my hand that I didn't know it was there. Huge scab that now is barely healing. It takes forever for his to heal or what? Does any one knows how long does it take for a scab to go away? It doesn't heal fast like when one cute oneself.
Anyway so now I am on day 3 o Advantix. Planning on doing it for another 10 days. And then give a break. And then again for 5 days again. I will probably do once a week for like 2 months after that and see.
I know I may die if cancer but I am already dying in so many ways with this I cannot even explain.
