I am considering buying plastic mattress covers but I'm not clear on why they help?
Is BB more effective than using Borax or Bleach?
I think slomo has tightly woven, fabric dust-mite covers, and he sprays down the bed with lysol, or 1:4 BB + alcohol these days.

The fabric mattress covers work probably just as good as the plastic ones, and they must be easier to sleep on.

BB seems to be a lot more effective than Borax and Bleach, and proably easier on the clothes.

Slomo is a very wise man. I wonder how he's doing?

I did purchase a plastic mattress cover, mostly to make Mary happy. To my surprise it's easier to change the sheets now. My mattress is verrry heavy and the plasic slides easier. I have 800 thread count pillow covers and pillow cases. 500 thread count sheets. I hope that counts.

Has anyone tried large doses of Garlic?
I found this posting at http://www.safe2use.com/pests/scabies/getting ...

Finally after FOUR years of torment I did it....I've cured ALL the creepy crawlies in/on my body....(breathes big sigh of relief).
I waited to make sure before I posted anything here, but it's been 4 months that I've been clear of vermin and I'm SURE now they're gone.
What did I do? I used garlic tabs & the Safe-2-Use product for Scabies for months....both helped tremendously to relieve the problems, BUT it wasn't until I began taking FORTY 500 mg. garlic tablets 3 or 4 times a day that I got RID of the varmints altogether.....and it happened within a matter of DAYS, though I continued to take/use the products for a few weeks.
Just wanted to let yall know, so YOU can be free of whatever's ailin' ya, too.:) Good luck!

(Now as you can see this is alot of Garlic!!- 60,000 to 80,000 mgs, I am taking 40,000 thats 10/ 1000 mgs 4 times a day. and I feel much better after just 24 hours.) My History: I have had this since Oct. but I had a big break through in Feb. I have gotten much better using Kleen-Free Naturally and that got rid of the crawlies but not the flutters (which is great because I can sleep through out the night), or gotten rid of the things inside me. YES, to everyone who has asked this question, these bugs are in the nose, ears, vaina and rectum. That is why I am on this posting, to get rid of the things inside for good. But I was too afraid to take the horse medicine and luckly I found this post. So I am going to try this and I will let you know how it goes. I will still use the Kleen-free prouduct but if you are not using enzymes then I would try the Garlic first, maybe that is all you need.

FYI "GARLIC IS TOXIC to Dogs and Cats"
But I found this posting..
RE: Garlic and Brewer's Yeast for Fleas
Post By chris (Guest Post)(04/24/2005) I have started giving my dog brewers yeast tabs with garlic ('premium' brand avail at walmart). i give her one a day, i do have to wrap it in cheese, her favorite. a friend told me about this and it works for her dogs and she attends agility shows year round.

Also, too much fresh garlic will harm you, I would try to buy the orderless ones they are much easier to digest. And won't burn your insides.

As for babies, be very careful, I would get the galic pills that are oil and open them and see if they are gentle on the skin and only then would I apply it to their skin. I would test it first.

Warning: Do not take garlic without first talking to your doctor if you have a bleeding or blood clotting disorder or diabetes, or if you are taking any medicines to prevent or treat a blood clotting disorder or diabetes. Garlic has been reported to affect blood clotting and blood sugar levels.

Possible side affects:
Although uncommon, allergic reactions to garlic have been reported. Stop taking garlic and seek emergency medical attention if you experience symptoms of a serious allergic reaction including difficulty breathing; closing of your throat; swelling of your lips, tongue, or face; or hives.
Other less serious side effects have also been reported. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you experience burning of the mouth, throat, and stomach; nausea or vomiting; diarrhea; sweating; lightheadedness; and eczema or a rash.

There is no protocol for this cure so I am trying to figure it out.
Spray for the House and Bed:
1.5 cups hot water, add heaping 3 tablespoons of “20 Mule Team Borax”, found in Laundry section of the grocery store. Stir until most of borax is dissolved. Then add 1/4 cup of 3% Hydrogen Peroxide. Put in bottle and spray everything, except leather or whatever you think would be damaged. Then vacuum after it is dry about 20 mins. then put in the same cleaned bottle white vinegar,(this will clean the sprayer head, trust me if the borax isn’t cleaned out you will be buying more sprayers) and spray everything again in the house.
Bathing Yourself Between 4-6:
This is from (read this): http://www.earthclinic.com/CURES/scabies.html
1/3 box of “20 Mule Team Borax” and 1 bottle of 3% or 10% Hydrogen Peroxide, add 1 gallon of Vinegar (is optional). Then Soak for 30 mins. Try to keep your hair in the water the entire time (do not rinse yourself off). When the 30 minutes are up, step out and air dry as much as possible and then moisturize. Spots will appear on your skin, these are the bugs dying inside the pours, they will sting a bit too, you will also want to itch when you moisturize, this means it is killing the bug. Repeat this 3 days in a row and then you need to figure out if it is working and continue or just stop. If you have dogs… Shampoo them first and then put them in the bath after you are done and soak them for a good 10 mins.. I am not sure about cats. Soak the dog in it once a week. Do NOT WASH THE solution left on the dog with ANY WATER. Do not wipe the dog dry. The solution will take effect on mites. The treatment period should not be longer than a month or two. The dog will probably not be resistant as the treatment is painless. More info? http://www.earthclinic.com/Pets/dog_mange_cur...
Why am I not cured? I am on my 5th day, I was washing it off afterwards, not moisturizing and using only vinegar because I didn’t want my hair lightened. I am over my vanity issues and I am going by this recipe now.
Why am I adding Vinegar? Because Ted, of Bangkok, Thailand on the http://www.earthclinic.com/ website says it works the best. This combination of three:“20 Mule Team Borax”, 3% or 10% Hydrogen Peroxide, and Vinegar.
The Evening Application…

You have two options, one you paint yourself with Black Walnut Hulls (it looks like a fake tan the next morning), You take about ¼ cup of warm water add 6 pills worth of powder and then very carefully paint it on your skin. It washes off but I would be very afraid to put it on my scalp, because it will dye your hair. You then apply Band-Aid Hurt Free Cleansing and Infection Protection foam or Band-Aid Antiseptic Wash to your face and scalp and go to sleep.
Or
You apply Band-Aid Hurt Free cleansing and infection protection foam to your entire body. This bottle is refillable, buy the Band-Aid Antiseptic Wash it has 6 oz for the price of the foam. Or just buy the Band-Aid Antiseptic Wash for about $3.50. I find the foam is easier to spread.
Going to Work:
Apply the Band-Aid Hurt Free Cleansing and Infection Protection foam or Band-Aid Antiseptic Wash all over your body and then use a deet spray on your shoes and pant legs, spray around your desk floor too.

Washing Laundry:
1 -2 cups of White Vinegar ( it is cheap about $1.70 a gallon)
½ cup 3% Hydrogen Peroxide
½ cup of 20 Mule Team Borax
Soap
Lysol ( add whatever you think works for you)
Wash in hot water

If you have then inside of you:
Then you may need to eat large quantities of Garlic Pills, 60- 80,000 mgs. For a week or so like I did. I recommend the Kyolic Brand, they are odorless and gas-less pills, The best price I found was from the Vitamin Shoppe Brand which Kyolic makes for them.
Well that is about it…

None of what you mentioned will cure scabies but good try.

This forum is for people who are already cured, please. Posters are looking for people who are cured and how they did it. we are sick of experiments that don't work.

Oct 6, you've had scabies a long time and you posted in March too. You are not cured. All the borax, garlic and Black Walnut hulls won't cure you. Isn't is obvious after all this fussing around you've done using a bunch of stuff but not scabicides. In fact, you have done harm to other posters who are desperate for a cure. You set them back by telling them to try these things instead of scabicides or Ivermectin.

thanks been there. Very well put. That is exactly what's wrong here. Oct 06, post something that has actually worked and we'll try it. Other than that, I've tried most of the other tricks and those don't work, I've just wasted my time thinking borax baths would work instead of treating with permethrin at that time when i did try it, prolonging my condition much longer. at least i knew garlic wasn't going to do the job the one night i took it.

I agree, that's why i stick with the posters who have sound, logical remedies. I would skip some and find the ones who have done research and gave more of their experiences with the results whether positive or negative, it's like going to a surgeon, i want one who know what he/ she is talking about.

But thanks to all of you people on this board, I’m a gazillion % better and have high hopes for a complete cure soon. Hang in there Everyone!
Have you ever thought that maybe you simply didn't have scabies? Did you undergo a skin-scrape with a positive test result? After all you went through, it just seems somewhat odd that would get it/get it again.

Yes, positive scabies diagnosis from a skin scrape. I had crusted scabies, which just means "you have it real bad". Doc didn't realize this means lots of treatment along with constant cleaning. I figured that out on my own, thanks to this board, have been self treating, and am 99.7% done.

All... First-time poster, long-time reader. I am cured from scabies. My best advice - post-scabies is long and is a b*tch. It makes you terribly paranoid that you're still infested. I went through the following therapy:

Family doctor first thought it was allergic reaction (of course), and prescribed steroids. That didn't help, so next treatment was Eurax. I had bad allergic reaction to that, AND it didn't cure me. Next, I was given permethrin cream. This helped, and perhaps cured me. Just to make sure, I was given ivermectin 7 days later, just 6 mg (I weigh 210 lbs.). That was it. After the ivermectin, I stopped washing/vaccumming/cleaning obsesively. I had post-scabies BAD though. After a while, I started cleaning like crazy again, because I was sure I was reinfested. I went to a dermatologist. He told me I had post-scabies and some nodular scabies, but was cured and should need no further major treatment. He gave me some lindane for the nodules - just to spot treat them for one night, and some cortisone cream for the itching and problem spots. I stopped cleaning obsesively again and began to realx and re-take my life. Post-scabies for me lasted approx. 4 months after this - so I still had the paranoia, but the derm dr.'s input eased my worries quite a bit. Post-scabies was awful... You STILL get the "creepy crawlies" and the feeling of bites and basically every single symptom as when you did have scabies actually. You still get some lesions, or "bites" in post-scabies. It's completely horrendous. But now I'm fine - I don't itch at all and totally symptom free. The best advice I can give, don't overdo the ivermectin and permethrin like crazy - you may just have post-scabies, and believe it or not, overuse of those meds can actually worsen and lengthen post-scabies. It's horrible, I know - I wish you all the best of luck!!!

Thanks for this post, I sometimes wonder if my 'new bites' is post scabies. I'm too paranoid to not re-treat though. I did get my microscope slides in today. Hopefully that will aid in deciding whether or not there are bugs in the new bites.

Does post scabis itching happen more at night because one is bot active or does it cause itching all day? I ask because I used all the creames but sill itch more at night.

You are itching more at night because the mites are light phobic and are very active during the night. Nighttime activity means you are still infested, and the mites are coming out of their burrows, crawling on you, looking for mates to mate with, burrowing, etc.

2 scratch,
Where do you send your slides too? Will any laboratory review them with you? I planted 8 yellow lantana flowers today. They didn't smell like rose but sure felt good to work in garden.
Sorry to hear about your vacation, I know how hard you have worked to go. I don't have any lindane or I would send it to you. Be good to yourself. MIS

I had scabies since may, so two months. I got it from a family member. They dug deep into my hands, forearms and calves and from there went to every part of my body. I have no health insurance, so..I used 8-oz bottle of Permectrin II which I got online for around $12.00 with shipping, it contains 10% permethrin. I made a gallon of spray according to the directions and sprayed everything in the house. Diluted it to 5% with lotion 50-50 mix and covered my entire body even hair and face, also did this with family members who showed no signs yet. It gave me a mild chemical burn on my neck which disapeared in 2 day's as I treated it with vinegar and aloe plant. Thats why I might suggest using the Martin's brand since I heard it has no petroleum product. I stripped the bed, all the clothing was washed, pillows are in trash bags for 7 days. I got reinfested from, I beleive is the couch...which has been sprayed numerous times with the gallon of permethrin. A week later you are supposed to do the process over, I couldn't wait a week so 5 days latter I did it again, but this time I broke it back with olive oil. No chemical burn in the morning. Started avoiding the couch, wore plastic sandals, wiped toilet seat with alcohol. Clothing I wear goes into a plastic bag, That gets washed, and sits in a basket in the garage for 7 days. Luckily I have other matresses free, so after I was treated I would sleep in an uninfected bed for 7 days. And switch beds. After the second permethrin treatment I bought 4-oz sublimed sulfur from a local pharmacy..these new ones like cvs and walgreens don't carry it, you can buy it online too. I mix it with olive oil to 20%, after the shower I cover my entire body from neck down with this, you have to stir it each time so it stays thoroughly mixed. After the uncontrollable itching I would reaply or just rub the pure powder into the heavily itchy parts. This is my third day of sulfur on my body and the itching went from 100% to 10%. Today I washed it off with a really good shower and went to work out, the sweat from my body stung my eyes, so I know that this gets absorbed into the skin. When I work out and sweat I can smell it, otherwise this does not smell on me. The smell when I sweat is not really strong like rotten eggs but slight sulfuric smell. Keep your nails short. The olive oil/sulfur helped in the restoration of my skin too. I drink lots of water so my body sweats alot through my legs, so if the olive oil wasn't enough I mixed the sulfur with vaseline, which is messyer but doesn't get dilluted as much by sweat. I look at this as an armored suit, and I will keep on doing this for a week maybe more untill I feel that all the fabric is decontaminated and they starved to death. I take off my socks when I go to bed, luckily I mostly have hardwood and tile so all the runners are in the garage and I vacum ever 2 days. I used regular olive oil, but extra virgin is used on skin more. I'm not alergic to sulfides.
