I see that Benzyl Benzoate is available OTC in the US, but I cannot find any place to buy it. I would prefer to buy it locally, would most pharmacies stock it behind the counter or at a specialty store? Most of the online places did not look very reputable.

Also, I heard 5% perm is also now OTC (Nix Dermal) however everywhere I look still says prescription required. Is this not OTC in the US?

Also, has anyone had any results with Enzymes? I have seen 1 or two people mention Enzymes with Peppermint, but I wonder why more people are not using it if it works.

Thanks

Hi JJDev,
The only place I've seen Benzyl Benzoate here is in a product called DeMite, which is sold as a laundry additive through several Allergy product websites.
From what I've read the percentage in the DeMite is the same as the Benzumel lotion (used in Europe in place of our crappy Permethrin cream). It also has tea tree oil in it and something else. I've used it in my laundry before, but was too scared to use it directly on my skin, as I don't know if it really is the same as the lotion. If you know your chemistry you might be able to figure it out..it was always my worst subject..who knew I'd need it for this :-)
Someone listed an on-line source for the Benzumel..it might have been "West Coast Drugs"
I'll look through my search history and see if I can find it.

Happy Jack Sardex mange spray, 29% BB. Available online or at many farm supply stores, including Tractor Supply Co. Of course it is for your dog. Benzemul is 25% BB. Any BB burns wet skin. Do not use it if you are the least bit damp or sweaty. Wait at least 1/2 hour after showering. Towel dry is not enough (I speak from experience). Be careful around face and eyes. BB has a strong chemical smell. If you want Benzemul, it is available in AU and NZ. It can be ordered from from there if you are willing to wait the 2 weeks it takes to get here. Google 'benzemul AU' for several sources.

What will the BB do for you. Itchy I read somewhere
that Raid ant and roach spray has the same chemicals in it that you use in your car. I understand that the ant and roach is just not as strong. Is that right? And can you send the place you order yours or tell me something like it to use in my truck. Right now I am using Raid.

BB does kill buggies on your skin. I started using it when I ran out of Eurax with good results. I wouldn't use the sardex in your environment, it is oily and will probably stain. Think WD40. There is a product by bissell called Acarosan that is kind of a damp granular type of stuff that you sprinkle on your carpets that contains BB. I used it on my really buggy couch and family room carpet, where my old infested dog spent most of his time. It worked nicely and has a residual effect. I remember my sister telling me that she was using straight BB in laundry and that it can stain clothes when used that way. I think Joe may have a way of using straight BB in the environment, which can be ordered from chemical supply places. I'm pretty sure it would have to be diluted-it is a solvent.
I found that Hot Shot ant and roach with lambda-cyhalothrin worked well in my car. That's what I used before I bought the professional products, and my car was infested. Make sure you read the ingredients. Hot shot has a bunch of different formulations.

Hi Merry Beth. There is a lotion called Benzemul and you can order this online from Australia. It is a great scabicide. Just do a search for Benzemul and you will find it on an Australian website. It contains 25% BB. Apply full body.

Also, from Research Supply, they sell 100% BB, which can be mixed with alcohol, and you can use this topically. It is a solvent so it will melt plastics a little, like eyeglasses, remote controls, keyboards, so you have to be careful with it.

http://www.researchsupply.net/solvents_etc.ht...
here it is listed as benzyl benzoate.
100%

I spoke with my derm about it and she said BB works.

Hi, thank you for the suggestions. I was hoping I could find it somewhere local, or at least order from the US, but I guess I should order it now so I don't have to wait too much longer.
I am hoping they will be gone in two weeks but who knows. When I get bites, I get them much much worse than my partner. I only get a couple at a time, but they turn into very large, red, irritated welts. His just look like little pimples, and mine start out that way but get 5 or 6 times bigger, with the skin very tight and hot to the touch. I think I may have an allergic reaction. I cannot afford to get them bad, that would be incredibly painful.
I haven't had any new bumps for a week and a half or so, but my skin is very itchy and I am worried about recontacting them from my partner or the environment.

brausa,
are you making the bb yourself and if not, where are you sourcing it from?

I can almost be certain that this person is getting their shipments from family and friends in South America and/or Mexico and/or Central America.
Their listing has "ended" on Ebay.
