Colleen,

That's an excellent post,, and should be helpful to others even though the thread had been inactive for some time. Just an additional note for those who have or suspect they have scabies. If you can see the black specks as described by the original poster of this thread, you are looking at bird mites and not at scabies mites which are practically microscopic in size. That is a good indication that you have bird mites, but even though those black specks are not scabies you may be cross infected and have scabies as well. That is what happened to me. I had both, and it took almost a full year to get rid of the bird mites after getting rid of my bedroom window air conditioner.

Birds had nested for two years in the space just above the window sill under the air conditioner. Initially I though that was kind of nice as I'm a bird lover. However, the bird mites were sucked in from the fresh air intake and and blown into and circulated throughout my apartment. I had read of a warning to the public not to let birds nest in that space under window air conditioners for that reason and that is what clued me in to the problem of bird mites. Their lifespan off the host (birds) is nine months or so. Thus if you don't go the fumigation route to get rid of them they can survive in your living space for about that length of time.

Hi, Bill... hey have you ever looked up the guy who wrote bird mites.org ??? He apparently has bad information out there.. mixed with some good information... two entomologists, at Scripts told me that the guy was a "FRAUD " ...he works for the exterminators as their front !

diatomaceous earth works but it takes several weeks to help withcrawling insects...assuming they come into contact with it..do it yorself pest control after patient reseearch wiil aid in your elimation of these nightmarish pests.. bonide house fogger has limited effect if you infestation is not that bad..natursil.com has somme great natral pest control products but expensive. again the only broad use indoor pesticide i found that works on mites was onslaught and to some extent talstar p used with a insecticide synergist ( booster)... and of course clean clean.. it takes weeks to months to eliminate bird mites keep fighting

Not so, that is the only site that really helped me and my friends. Sure, they perform insect control but the site also shares a lot of information that people write in. It has been a God send.

Hello adanaturkey8385. Or anyone else who had this same experience, thinking it was bird mites but it ended up being scabies. How did you find out? And has anyone felt like being imovement all over the face and head, feeling them even on eyelashes almost like dust, and it still turned out to be scabies? I know it could be possibly birdmites, but Im not sure. My sister got this too, probably infected by me, after sleeping two days in the same bed as her, in the beginning of my infection.. But after many weeks now her roommate has never sensed a thing. Her cat seems pretty okey too. It seems is only her. I have had friends come over here, but nobody gets or feels anything, only me. Luckily. But Im struggling a lot with this. It is more active in front of a computer. I feel it strongly when I go outside in daylight too, but it eases some of it. Anyone with scabies been through this?:)

Help. I live in Sun City, AZ and there are lots of birds especially quail. I believe my house is infested with bird fleas and mites. They turn into little black specks when I apply grapefruit seed extract to an itch. My poor dog is suffering too. The vet didn't know what it is but recommended frontline. That worked for about a week. I wasn't able to get a dermatoligist appointment until the end of July. I wake up, put my clothes in the washer with vinegar and hot water, spray myself with grapefruit seed extract, vacuum the whole house, clean the floors with vinegar, soak in epson salts and finally put on clean clothes. Most of my clothes are now in vacuum sealed bags. I've bombed my home and my car all to no avail. In the evening, I put the clothes I've worn in the washer with vinegar and do another treatment on myself before getting into my pajama's. I spray and steam clean my mattress and pillows everyday. Today an exterminator came and sprayed the inside of the house with an organic product, and used something stronger on the yard. Yesterday, I found the website birdmites.org and after reading through it, I was ready to shoot myself. My suffering is inconsequential, but to see my little dog itching, tears me up, Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Hi I know a scientist guy in Booragoon Western Australia that highly reccommened to me for my eczema which I suffered for 40 years, Diggers clear, low odour kerosene4. You cant get the diggers brand but you can buy a clear low odour one. I ingest 1 teaspoon in juice or cordial. Please look at my posts on kerosene at the site www.whatsthatbug.org The trick is to poison you blood so these things cannot suck off your nutrient rich blood. It sounds weird but its been helping people. The bonus is that it takes pathogens from the body nd cleared my eczema.

Welty,
You think you had the wild outdoor kind? And you got rid of them? Sounds like you used a different approach than Rita's, although both work. Would it be good to get rugs then (when I do settle down)? I hope I can find this post, so helpful. Wow.
I am still running, but now on so many meds, I also find it hard walking (especially in constant 100% humdity.) Hey, but I'm doing it, and so grateful for meds--it's getting more manageable and chronic-seeming again. Still having intestinal symptoms--but not followed up by same rate of activity, either on me, or in environment. Don't get me wrong, they're still around, just that it's actually better.(I think, I hope...)

Janetinnyc are you still on here? Did you get rid of these parasties? I am needing help with the meds. Can you please contact me [email protected]

I know this is an old post but just wanted to put this out there for anyone who it may help. Generally when there are mites in the home there is a great probability that they are on an animal such as a dog or cat. I have found using frontline every three weeks and giving the dog a high quality puppy food to put weight on them will get them over any case of body mites. It does take a little time though. You should spray the home in case it is some kind of bird mite as well. Usually though it is coming from a pet. Also ear mites can crawl off a pet and make you itch. Put mineral oil in the ears. A better miticide would be Revolution flea and heartworm product or Advantage Multi. You need to boost the pets health to help them clear skin parasites because if you don't you and your pets will continue to suffer.

If you don't have pets than it is probably a case of scabies or body lice. In this case you will need to spray the home and get a product that is labeled to kill the insects.
