I was in the Amazon in Peru when the first welts showed up May 15, 2013, I thought they were mosquito bites and didn't do anything about it until July 1st when I finally got health insurance. I slept with a girl a week prior and spent the night in the airport and slept in some rustic beds in the Amazon, so any of those places, I may have got it. Although they say it doesn't show up for 2-4 weeks and I had only been in Peru for two weeks. I've followed all the cleaning procedures since July 1st. I still get single bites or bumps that can turn dry or just feel like skin. I've had hives from head to toe. Right now the hives cover my whole right side of my belly. The 4 treatments of Ivermectin and 5 of Permetherin really screwed me up. Since then I've tried DE, sulphur and petroleum jelly, clove oil and coconut oil or Jergens lotion, b\c I still get itchy bumps that start with one bump and grow to several interconnected bumps the size of a nickel. I've been seeing a dermatologist for two months. He still wants me to treat with Permetherin. I already feel that stuff really messed up my body. So I had him refer me to another dermatologist apart of the UC Davis med center. I have to wait two weeks. I already lost one girlfriend, and pretty much avoid girls because I can't get into an intimate relationship. F..ing depressing.
hey would you like to exchange contact information? Im going through something very similar currently.

I'm currently going through the exact same thing. Have you found anything that helps?

Please be careful with the Prednizone. For me, it temporarily calmed the itching but that came back in full force once I went off it--a Prednisone "rebound" effect. It's comforting to know that the itching I'm feeling (along with the extensive hives) is probably an allergic reaction to both the scabies remains and the permathrin (I've taken two tubes of that a week apart). I'm hoping now that they won't find any live burrows on me, but it's hard to tell the hive bumps and folliculitis from the scabies burrows, and I panic. I've been rubbing permathrin into areas I thought were new scabies outbreaks, but that may have been a mistake. But IMHO prednisone is to be avoided! It's a temporary fix.

WOW! I just wrote on 3 other threads about this before I realized this one was out there. I have broken out in hives all over too, except my back, butt and face/head. The weird part is that those were the places I had scabies the worst.
What I thought caused the hives is that my doc took 4 biopsies off me of bumps I had after my treatment for scabies was completed (2 doses of permethrin & stromectol together a week apart). The biopsies came back this time as folliculitis. The new bumps were larger and still itchy (I think I've seen them referred to as nodules). He gave me an antibiotic and antibiotic lotion to cure the folliculitis. The antibiotic was cephalexin, and when I read about this drug it was linked to giving people hives about a week after use. Also, part of the hive reactions to this was small raised red bumps, that felt like pinpricks when they occurred, that turned into huge hive welts. This was happening to people who took the medication and they were not scabies patients. It was exactly what happened to me so I just assumed it was the cephalexin that caused it.
Now I wonder.
I'm on prednisone and benadryl. The prednisone starts working about 3-4 days later, not immediately. But they are still spreading. Weird though that I don't have them at all on my back which is where the scabies was tearing me up worst.
No answers here, just curious about this now.

You don't diagnose scabies on your own! If you think you have scabies, go at once to your dermatologist and ask them to scrape the burrow and look at it under the microscope. They are unmistakable, along with their eggs. So lacking that evidence, of course your dermatologist doubted you. If you had had a typical mound (it starts out like a tight, white mosquito bite and reddens to a hard raised burrow with a little silver track leading to it--which multiplies in the area and itches intensely) then the dermatologist could have scraped it and examined the scrapings. But instead, what did you do? You BORROWED A MEDICATION from a friend, thinking you had 'confirmed" your diagnosis. No wonder you came down with hives. The immediate relief you got was because it comes with a corticosteroid which can, along with the agent that paralyses the scabies, create a horrendous allergic reaction. If you had scabies, you effectively killed it before you could get a real confirmation from your dermatologist, and now he/she thinks you're not to be trusted.

Desperateinpa how are the hives going? Just googled scabies and hives because my daughter just started braking out in hives after amoxicillin tx and reminded me of 13 years ago. My senior year of high school nearly every close friend I had came down with scabies within 2 or 3 month period. Most cases were transmitted through light physical contact (not sexual). Because so many friends had been diagnosed, a friend that saw me vigorously scratching problem areas told me that I had scabies. After investigating and confirming I had classic symptoms, I got a tube of permethrin cream from md friend and treated. Relief within a day. Within a few days of treatment I broke out with worst case of hives! Large extremely itchy welts all over my body but especially my back. At this point I went to dermatologist and informed that welts started after treating scabies. Dermatologist said I didn't have scabies but hives and that I had misdiagnosed myself. I'm 100% sure I started with scabies just as I was 100% sure that it was hives post treatment before going to MD... The point is that the dermatologist was very wrong and seemed to think that it was impossible that the hives were a side effect of scabies or scabies treatment. Common sense told me that he was wrong because scabies were gone and hives were suddenly there! Zrtec worked amazingly. Claritin not so much. I thought I was going to be on Zyrtec chronically because once a month I would stop taking and the hives would immediately return full force and cover my back with large extemely itchy welts.. This lasted for 8 solid months! After 8th month and a test day without Zyrtec the hives did not and never again returned!

Count me in, too. I'm going through exactly the same thing: two tubes of permathrin, and now on sulfur cream applied twice a day until I can see my dermatologist again. Hives all over me.

Pay attention: don't let any doctor give you prednisone without sending you to a dermatologist. Same thing happened to me. Not only did it delay the diagnosis of scabies but it brought the itching back ten times worse. During the ten days I was on that damned taper-off, I drove the car recklessly, paced, yelled, and said insulting things to my colleagues that inhibition would normally prevent. Prednisone is a real mood-changer and its rebound effect is marked. It should be used for serious purposes.

I'm new to this forum.
I was diagnosed with Non Hodgkin Lymphoma 9 months ago and after a 6 day stay in hospital I ended up with Scabies. Saw a Dermatologist who confirmed that. After 6 weekly treatments of Permethrin and cream of Histamines I'm still getting lumps appearing on a daily basis. I've done the washing every day for 6 weeks, new cloths and vacuum bed, couch, office chair etc etc.
Went back to the Doctor last week and he said I have overdosed on the Permethrin.
Anyone know if that would cause same type of bumps as Scabies.

YES SIR REE ... I got the Hives after filially beating the scabies too! I had scabies for like SIX MONTHS and it was six months of pure hell. Finaly after like 10 treatments of Perithium and FOUR !!! oral treatments of Ivermectim - I too now suffer with Hives.

No doubt that was over kill with SO MUCH POISON AKA Nurotoxins!!!- I rubbed into my skin and ingested.

When I think of it like that - it's no wonder my body has broken down with this new affliction. My brother also was found dead and anything else that could go wrong went wrong - so this too all added to the scabies and hives.

But to hell with the scabies - This Hives might get me out of bed and have me scratching as if I still had scabies, but like another poster here ... I am thankful that those blighters are finally gone. I do worry though that they could come back, if I stopped my current recovery with this current bout of hives I am suffering with.

I was also taking an anit-psychotic Serequol/quitipine which is actually used in some case to treat hives and or as a strong anti-histamine. So it was that when I stop taking this drug I break out in hives straight away!!! I only just started taking it again due to a mental break down however I'm sick of being reliant on synthetic medication that only buggers you up in others way further down the track ...

So you see - for me - my body is riddled with nasty chemical compounds and all the stress of suffering and life ...

I now JUICE green veggies and eat clean - I have researched a lot of antihistamine foods. I am learning what foods trigger me as well. Before this, I already had a touch of red patches here and there - but now - I expect it's going to take a few months of eating clean and also exercise to regain my health back -

I'm on DAY SEVENTEEN of my recovery plan and whilst I still have HIVES ... I am not going to give up just yet ... if anything, this post validate much of what I have been thinking.

So much poison to treat the damn scabies and also so much damn poison sold to us poorer ones on the super market shelves.

Keeping a stiff upper lip, a bit of humor ... and changing ones life style for the better will eventually help overcome these issues.

Is there such a thing as Post Scabies Hives - The evidence is quite clear in tis thread for me. I'd say we all need to DETOX and get serous about about a recovery plan that's sets a new way of life.

best of luck guys
Dave ;)

Ccj, unless you are living in a situation in which you believe you are getting repeatedly re-infected with scabies, I do not think you have them anymore. I think you now have eczema, urticaria, and super sensitized skin and immune system from having had scabies. You've used perm and several other treatments many times. Do you know where you caught them? If you cleaned your apartment, kept up with the daily laundry for a couple weeks, I can't imagine you'd need another treatment. Your skin probably needs rest. Have you found a good doctor? I can say this after having some perspective-- it's been almost a year since I was pretty sure I was cured. In retrospect, I think I believed I had them for a month longer than I actually did. Then I still had some scares where I thought I had them, because I get not just hives but scabies-looking rashes even today. But I know I no longer have scabies.
DesperateinPA are you now better? I have basically had the same exact experience as you. After being treated for scsbies, my skin became hypersensitive and now breaks out all the time. How long until this finally goes away?

I had post scabies hives focal on time as you describe them. They are a histamine reaction to the parasites, eggs, and feces that were once part of the original onfection. The medications kill the parasites and eggs, but once dead, they have no place to go. Your body attempts a histamine reaction as if it were being attacked but these are only the remnants of what was once the scabies.

The fastest fix for this problem is to buy a couple of gel packs at the drug store. The kind you toss into the freezer. Once cold enough you will be ready to apply them immediately to the affected area. You'll be surprised how quickly the itching, and patches disappear. Somehow the cold eliminates the histamine reaction. Scratch nothing. In the abscence of gel packs, a cold, wet wash cloth will do, but the gel pacKS arw colder and more effective.
