Windex vs. Ammonia

I've noticed several folks on this board reporting some success using Windex as a spray-on miticide/disenfectant - especially on uphulstered surfaces.
Since ammonia is the active ingredient in Windex, I'm planning on saving some money by buying a bottle of ammonia at the dollar store, mixing with water and putting in a spray bottle. Is there a "secret" ingredient in Windex that makes it superior (for our purposes) to plain old ammonia?
Also of interest, the following note is on Goodwind's Pure Ammonia:
For mosquito, bee and insect bites, or CHIGGERS, moisten a cotton pad with Goodwin's and apply to irritated areas."

Windex is good for killing mites. Ammonia is different from ammonia-D. I read hoe a man rid them from his car and home with Windex.
I read how some girl soaked her clothes and bedding overnight in regular ammonia to rid scabies from them.
I used it and it keeps my boyfriends car clean of mites
