I caught scabies years ago whilst travelling abroad in the Far East/Australia. Got home to UK and after a couple of weeks started itching. Went to the Dr. He said allergy to something and gave me a prescription for anti histamine cream.

Of course it only got worse. Went again to the doctor and they sent me to outpatients at the hospital where they diagnosed scabies.

Gave me standard Quelada solution and told me to cover all my body, legs and arms up to my neck and to wash my bedding, clothes etc.

OK all was fine after this for a few days and then i started itching on my scalp and back of the neck.

Dr's told me that couldnt be scabies as they dont affect scalp,(How wrong they were) and under no circumstances should I use Quelada on my head.

Since then I have tried everything. The most successful in containing, but not eliminating, was Neem Lice lotion http://www.theneempeople.com/head-lice-and-in...

and I also bought Clove Oil on ebay.

Then 2 weeks ago I found this thread and I just received my order of Avertol 3 (Stromectol/Ivermectin) and have taken the first dose this morning.

I will post here if successful or not

I have been itching severely for over 3 weeks now. I had gone to my primary care physician and she had no idea what it was. I finally made an appointment with a dermatologist and she new right away I have scabies. They started on my legs and arms and are now on my stomach and chest. Miserable. She gave me the Permethrin 5% cream (as well as treatment for my husband and daughter) and also gave me five 3 mg tablets of the Stromectol. I am doing the cream and taking the pills tonight and then repeating in 7 days. Don't waste time with other doctors - go straight to a Dermatologist!
I agree, go to a dermatologist, my Doctoe treated me for scabies,I was washing my bedding everyday, two sets of cothes, towels etc for 4 weeks, then started buying stuff on line, I live in the uk, cant buy the tablets, spent £ 200, finaly went back to the Doctor, he was on holiday the replacement a asian Lady said straight away thats not scabies.

She gave me a cream and a course of anitibiotics, after the firt application of cream instant relife. I was free of this monster and I feel for anyome suffering this curse, hope you are all well

I have had these demons for 26 months. I have been called a liar and a lunatic suffering from parasitic psychosis. I have never wanted to die more than I do at this moment. Over the past 18 months I have seriously considered suicide. I have become a total recluse. I have MRSA and have so many open infected sores from these mites I can't even count them I finally had to shave my head on Jan. 7th of this year. These are embeded in my scalp and I have so many MRSA (used to be called flesh eating bacteria) lesions on my head that will not heal because of these demons. My spine from my neck to my tail bone is made entirely of titanium. I have not been able to attend Mass in 3 yrs when I had a dermatologist tell me a year ago that I made this all up and did this to myself I got up and walked out. I went to be evaluated for psychosis and was determined to be quite sane but severely depressed...duh! These mites own my life, my service animal's life (a Rottweiler) and my cat's life. There is no way I can wash my sheets every day. I do wash everything in scalding water and high dryer. These horrid things are inside my ears, my nose, my eye brows and lashes. They cause blisters then the skin tears open and these horrid larvae come out and then they dig right in and go under my skin. I take a shower and it feels like I am standing on sand then the mites bite the hell out of my feet and legs and try to climb right back up. I know it sounds nuts! But it is all too true. I have tried everything and then found this site...thank God I am not alone! I am sorry for everyone else's suffering but good to know there are others out there who have made a success of killing these things! Thank all of you for suggestions of things I have not tried. I have noticed great decrease in my breathing capacity. I am alarmed they may be in my lungs. I have no clue how or where I got these things because I hardly go anywhere. I just want my life back and my poor dog w/ scarpetic mange is miserable too. The vet told me it would be useless to treat her w/o me being treated too, but 6 doctor's later and no one is helping me. I am desperate and depressed beyond words. Thank all of you for trying to share what has helped you. God Bless each of you and may He remove these mites from your life! Mesa, AZ

I can relate to so many of these stories! I first had this strange itching on my scalp, near the neck. It wouldn't go away no matter what I did. The doctors treated me like I was crazy, and gave me Permethrin when I insisted. I tried the Permethrin, but things only got worse. Now there were bites all over my shoulders, arms, chest. I finally went to the ER, and thank God the Doctor prescribed some Stromectol. But I think from reading these threads, that a couple of doses is not going to rid a person of these buggers. I truly did think of suicide, I felt so miserable. After the pills, for a couple of days I was better, then new sores and itching appeared. I bought some horse ivermectin, and used it topically on the sores, that helped, but not all sores went away. I do believe this is a very resistant pest, perhaps all the chemicals in our environment are creating a new generation of super bugs. I appreciate all the helpful advice. I now iron my sheets, and just about everything before I wear it. I'm going to get the carpets steam cleaned, and wish I could just tear them up and have all hard surfaces. I've treated the dog and cats too. Good luck to everyone, post what works, PLEASE!

The suggestion to use clove oil is an excellent one. I mixed afew drops with a carrier oil; I used a combination of safflower and sweet almond oil, which I got at Trader Joe's, called Lavender body oil, and after an Epsom salt bath with sulphur soap, I massaged it all over. It actually smelled nice. I added a few drops of peppermint oil, too. You can get these oils at the health food stores. The other thing that works is iron your sheets. I got tired of washing everything every day, so I ironed the sheets before getting in bed. Still washed them at least every other day, and mattress pad and blankets, too. This is a great motivator to clean your house THOROUGHLY! I cleaned and closed off a couple of rooms and stayed out of them. After two days sleeping in one room, I cleaned and moved into the spare room. Alternating like that. Or you can use an air mattress in another room. You have to break the cycle somehow. But this is all in conjunction with the Stromectol and permethrin, which won't work if the scabies are still in your environment. They are stubborn, sneaky buggers. I think they even were in my dog leash, so I washed and ironed that! After cleaning, treat everybody at the same time! The dogs, cats, rabbits, whatever! Get revolution,(unless your dog is a border collie, or herding dog breed). Good luck!- also, you can get this in many ways- mine started on back of my neck, which makes me suspect somewhere I sat for a while, like theater, Bart, airplane, etc.

I have been dealing with this nightmare for 6 weeks!! My heart and prayers go out to all who are suffering and trying to recover. Am a healthcare worker and caught scabies from a nursing home patient. My First red bump appeared on toe knuckle, then two finger knuckles. Later appeared on shoulders and back. They were so itchy, I almost ripped my skin off!! Other co-workers had sx, so about 20 of us were mandated to seek tx. 7 of us dx with scabies.

Two tx of Premethrin cream one week apart did not cure mites, however, doctors claim 95 percent cure rate with 2 Premethrin tx. Just finished 2 doses (six pills each) of Ivermectin, taken two weeks apart as prescribed by doc. Itching just within the past week has started to decrease. Cortizone cream, although it doesn't kill mites, is fantastic for itching!! Was told by doc to have cats checked for scabies. They are clean, but Vet suggested Revolution to keep them free of mites, tics, fleas.

The number of red bumps have decreased for the last week or so. I have acne, so in the beginning it was hard to tell the difference between scabies and a zit. Environment must be cleaned or you will not break cycle. All dirty clothes have been bagged in trash bags, clothes, sheets washed frequently only in hot water and dried on High. Vacuuming daily is a must. Also bought zipper-enclosed mattress cover (protection from mites, bed bugs) for bed.

My f/u appt with doc is next week. Have been off work for one month trying to get rid of these little bastards!! I will let you know if I have been cured. Hope this helps someone.

I am an RN at the health department I had it 4 months ago and got it again. I suspect from a hotel bed the first time and a nurse the second. I had to do Ivermectin three times after the two tubes of permetherine and lindain didn't work. The doctor told me on a Friday to just put lotion on it after the permetherine treatment when I called a week later with sever itching. they told me I can't take any more medicine. They didn't listen to me either!!! I bout PIN X over the counter. its for pin worms. I took it every other day. I did all the other stuff too. I think hydrogen peroxide and sulfer soap were effective. I flew out to Montan and went in the sulpher hot springs after the three doses of Ivermectin and that cured it. I am horrified to find out I have them again. All of the other nursews have been exposed and don't show symptoms for 4-6 wks since they have never had it. i am terrified that I will keep getting it. The nurse merely sat at my computer for two hours and I picked it up 24 hours later. I feel that I get it easier than other do. it makes me want to move away from other people. I spent two grand getting rid of it last time!!! I thanked god every day for four months that it was gone and now it is back!!!

ivermectin works
have to interrupt the life cycle from adult-egg-larvae-nymph-adultI had scabies for 14 months. I tried all the remedies on the forum. Some worked a little, but did not eliminate the scabies. The mites had moved to my scalp to avoid the ineffective treatments that irritated them. I was constantly being reinfected no matter what I did. Also a lot of the treatments smell so that everyone notices you. This one no one notices.
Here my cure, simple , cheap, easy.
....At the country feed or Ag supply store
buy the tube ivermectin for horses (1.87%) cost $5, get 3 of them
also in the dog section buy a bottle of "Happy Jack" skin balm
....At any grocery or other store buy 2, 1 pint bottles of 50/50 alcohol
....Simple recipe- pour 1/3 of 1 bottle alcohol out and add 2 tubes of Ivermectin and 1/3 bottle of happy jack skin balm. Shake well and add alcohol back until full. Save the extra tube, ivermectin and alcohol for later.
Drench your body all over with the mix. Get your back, buttocks and pubic region good. Get your feet even your soles, and between your toes and fingers. Important- do your scalp. Pour on your head and work in. With your hands wet rub the mixture on your forehead and cheeks. Coat everything. Leave the mix on your scalp 1 hour. Leave the mix on your body 8 hours. You will be oily at first but it dries and soaks into your skin. Very effective treatment. You will have red bumps that are sore pop out. That is dead scabies in their burrows. Thats the good news. Repeat this treatment every 4 to 5 days, at least 3 or better yet 4 times. You have to break the lifecycle.
After you have used 1/2 of the first bottle of mix. Add the other tube of ivermectin and another shot of happy jack balm. Fill with the extra alcohol.
Total cost of treatment - under $20. Relief from scabies priceless.
This treatment takes about 2 1/2 weeks, but works
I treated my 3rd treatment yesterday and had no reactins or red bumps pop up. I have no itching any more. I will treat one more time to make sure.
Ive tried everything on this website, some more than once. Even took ivermectin orally but still was reinfested. Doing your entire body, including scalp and face assures you get them all.

this really works.
good luck .
it takes repeated treatments since some stages are not killed. If you get red bumps after treatment that get real sore, it means you killed a mite.

Why do you recommend the skin balm made by Happy Jacks? From what I have read, this is an anti-fungal treatment for pets.

Also, I am concerned about the AMOUNT OF IVERMECTIN you are using for this rub-down.

Ivermectin is to be prescribed based on body weight.

For a small person. let's say 120 pounds, they apply this all over their body including their scalp and face, that is alot of ivermectin.

You say to mix TWO TUBES of horse paste.

Do you know how much two tubes of horse paste treats?

It treats about a 1,125 pound horse. And you are saying to use TWO TUBES OF THIS???

Okay, so you are OVERDOSING and there isn't ANY mathematics involved in your recipe.

Care to explain this?

If a person is taking the ivermectin ORALLY then yes it must be measured by wt. However topically it should make no difference. The horse paste is given to the horse orally that is why it tells you how much to use. I have heard from others that they were told by their Dr. to use an anti fungal. I have spent thousands of dollars trying to kill these things in the 29 mo. I have had them. I will try this now too. It is topical and as long as it soaks into your skin where these horrid things live then $20 is cheap. I also have MRSA so these mites have made huge MRSA. Lesions all over my body. My head was so bad w/ mites and MRSA lesions I finally shaved my head so I could take care of them w/ surgical scrub (Rx) and an ointment called Mupirocin (Rx) They start to heal and then literally explode w/ larvae an other horrid stuff. I am beyond. Caring either I die trying to kill them or I die from MRSA. renal failure from trying kill these things!

of course it makes a difference. The med is penetrating your skin and into your bloodstream it
goes. It doesn't matter whether you are taking it orally or topically. A full tube is way too much for a normal person weighing let's say 175 pounds.
For every notch on the tube, it's for a 250 pound person.
You don't want to use an entire tube of it for one sitting.
smaller doses done in 5 day increments to get your infestation down.

Yes $20 is cheap, but from your explanation of having MRSA, then you need professional treatment.
For one thing, you sound like you know what you are doing, but your explanation of having lesions "exploded with horrid larvae looking things" sounds a bit dramatic and you need professional care, and coming on a forum talking like this is sick in the HEAD.
You don't come on here and tell people to use an entire tube of ivermectin on their skin. Go the doctor and get your treatments, and quit playing around on the NET!!!

I got scabies from one of my pt's at work. Was working with him for weeks as a sitter, until he was diagnosed, and i was told that I had it as-well. Apparently the doctors didn't believe him either until it was too late. Now I've been out of work for 3 weeks, they keep giving me the scabies cream, and saying how it should be enough. And how it's probably something else. I finally got them to give me the pill, gonna use it today. But they say that one dose will cure all. That's funny, how can it? I mean it lasts 16-30hours, and if i touched anything in my house with the pathogen, that will last 3 days. That means in 3 days I'll get it again, unless I can get another dose.... Basically most doctors look at hospital stays as their benchmarks. If you have 10 nurses, in full precaution gear, disinfecting your small hospital room, and moving all the linen, and covering you head to to tow in every place with the cream, then yes it's enough. If you live at home, and have carpets, chairs, beds, mattresses, etc, then no, u won't ever clean them all off at a 100% level, so the chance of reinfection is much higher then in the hospital. It would seem the medical community ignores that fact. And just calls you crazy.
