I had scabies a year ago really bad. It took me a few months but eventually I got rid of it by the cream and covering everything in my house with plastic covers or I thought I did. I wasnt itchy for about a month, then the itching started again. I started the cream again. Itching was gone for a good 6 months. Now 3 days ago when I woke up I was very itchy on my ankle. The morning after. My same ankle and left thigh. Now today, other various spots. No burrows, just pimple like spots. Very small. And Usually I can only tell that its itchy when I wake up or when I go to bed.
.....? Im so confused, I thought I was cured for good dang it.
Oh but I should add.... sometimes Ill get itchy for a few days and then it just goes away, This being inbetween the 6 months cured period.
Im hoping that this is just another one of those just "itchy for a few days" periods.

Has anyone that has ever had scabies have an idea of what im talking about? Do you think Ive still had scabies this entire time?(no one around me has gotten itchy, my roommate is not itchy at all and Ive lived with him for 8 months.)
Just please give me some ophinions

Do you remember if it itches just as much as when you had scabies? The itch is usually intense enough to keep you awake, and it doesn't just go away.

Some questions to ask yourself;
Do you itch at night when you're not in bed?
Are the "pimples" spreading all over, or do they heal and go away?
Do you have biting and crawling sensations?

Maybe try a different laundry detergent, or stop using additives if you use them. Maybe it's an allergy, or dermatitis? Or try using a different bath soap too.

I thought I still had scabies after they were gone because I still got bumps, crawling, bitting sensations, itchies, etc. Turned out I had a bacterial infection. Secondary bacterial infections are common along with scabies. I didn't re-treat and just started using Dial anti-bacterial soap. Now my skin is clear and I feel fine.

I asked myself the same questions and wondered if I still had them. If they go away on their own or go away after using an anti-bacterial, then it's not scabies. Fungus can mimic scabies too. Try an anti-fungal cream on those spots if they don't go away.

Of course it's possible that a person can get scabies again, but it's also possible to get something else that has the same symptoms as scabies...remember, it's documented that scabies mimics all sorts of other skin problems.

Unless you're insanely itchy and have burrows popping up and spreading, I really think you shouldn't re-treat for scabies. Try to find the real problem and treat it. At least in my area, the Dermatologists are idiots, but go see a derm if your problem keeps up and you have some decent ones near you.

If you do have scabies again and nothing else seems to work, I'd try sulfur mixed with lubriderm.
Sulfur is a time tested proven cure and scabies can't become resistant to it, plus it's a cheap cure. http://www.topix.com/forum/health/scabies/TO7...
I tried a long list of things here, all the prescriptions and other stuff. I had a bad case, even some crusting on my elbows, and had scabies for a loooong time because while it would get better, it never completely went away until I used sulfur. While I had scabies, I ALWAYS got bumps and itching in the same areas again after using a treatment that I thought worked. With sulfur, it cleared those areas and they stayed clear for a long time (till the bacteria infection).

Sulfur with lubriderm isn't the end all wonder cure for everyone, I'm just saying what worked for me. Dial soap isn't a magical wonder soap either.:)

Did you see ALL of the idiot Dermotologists in your area? Lubriderm is not of the right consistency to suffocate the mites as well, or as fast as the petroleum base-there is a REASON for everything prescribed a certain way....it may EVENTUALLY WORK. Yeah Carl, it sure sucks here don't it...._Oo

Petroleum base is more suffocating, true, but it's the sulfur that really kills the mites.

Here is a study done using cold cream and sulfur; http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/1862029

Mineral oil is commonly used in cold cream, it's also in Lubriderm, and they both share other common ingredients. Mineral oil is proven to suffocate mites too.

I've read other articles which said to mix it with a petroleum base OR a cold cream. Well, there are plenty of lotions that have ingredients similar to cold creams. Some articles suggest using anywhere between 6-33% sulfur mix.

There are many different types of dermatitis, maybe something is giving you Contact Dermatitis anon.

I remember that when I had scabies, it started on my hip, itchy for weeks and then it started spreading really bad. To the point where I couldnt get any sleep. Drove ME INSANE. There were burrows, all the symptoms.
Now its just random. A little bump here or there, and it has the white clear head to it like the scabies would have. But they come for a day or two, maybe three and then they stop itching. I had one on my arm. Just one little white bump, like clear liquid inside. Its still there, not itchy and its actually sore if i press on it. But yeah, they will stay for a few days and then go away.
I know that scabies can have a big mental affect as well as physical but I cant figure out if its scabies again, something else, or im going insane.

I was diagnosed with scabies last week. I did the treatment and everything after that. The problem I have now are the bumps have swelled up and itches more than ever. I still have a few new bumps that pop up here and there. Are there anyone out experiencing the same symptom post treatment? Also my husband and daughter sleeps with me and they don't have anything is that possible?

Hi guys the best thing to do is see your doctor so they can give you a preacription for permethrin 5% you put it on your body head to two paying close attention to folds leave it on for 8 to 14 hours the next day you will have to wash your sheets and clothes and clean your enviorment and use cetaphil cream and soap for the itch you may think it isn't going away but you just have to give it time and sometimes you do get bumps but it's just an allergic reaction from the feces of the mites on your skin or like my daughter I treated her 7 times and the permethrin was hurting her skin so now she is clear but I have to keep her enviorment clean and use sensitive detergent and only cethphil on her skin but that god she has cleared up for 2 months now

It will always have a stage where it seems worse before it gets better but I have been near cured 3 times now and it's as you described. As if the treatment killed enough to make a difference but after a cleanup the void of colonies jump out to get the best homes first.

I feel biopsies miss it because it doesn't go deep enough and most wounds are just bio residue, your immune system fighting it and most likely other naturally existing microorganisms.

To some, they have a full outbreak all over then it disappears. For me I get enough meds to clear 'most of it' then cut off for months.

Wish you best of luck & better then mine atleast:/

This reoccurence of symptoms isn't surprising. It's happening because it's not a scabies infection, it's something else.

the doasage for Ivermectrin treatment for scabies is 3 3mg pills taken all at once, then repeated again 7 days later. 3mg is just the standard dose the ivermectrin pill coomes in, but you need to take 3 of those pills to treat Scabies, or other mites. If you just take 1 3mg pill it is not going to do anything for your Scabies. Ivermectrin is a drug that is also used for other diseases, in which you need the 3mg dose only. So a MD needs to give a prescription to you for 6 3mg pills. If you haven't been taking it right or the MD gave you the wrong dose, you going to need get a more advance doctor that can figure out your case.

Wanted to make this clear.

I've had recurrence 3x over 12 year period - each time its just one spot that appears. I think its an old dead case coming to skin surface not a true infection as such. treated by appling lotion to the one spot itself - and it went away

we still go through itchy periods and sometimes we get the pimple bites etc what ever u wanna call them but like u they usually go away, don't panic is not scabies, remember if u had them b4 u will b able to tell the difference in the kind of itching(usually at night with no peace) and it would continue until it sends u mad, someone said in here that it can take up to yrs for the body to get rid of the debris left behind plus there is other factor, we do have other little nasties around the house that bite us every day lol I have become more sensitive to the environment due to over treatment so even house dust makes me itch. Enjoy being scabie free:)

The dosage for ivermectin is based on the person's WEIGHT.

You don't go on a forum giving advice that is NOT CORRECT.

3 of the 3-mg. tablets is only enough for a 90 pound person. Most of us weigh over 100 pounds.

The dosage you are giving for ivermectin is for internal parasites.

For a 150 pound person, the dosage is 5 of the 3 mg. tablets.

More if you weigh more.

It's 3 mg. for every 30 pounds.

And you will need at the very least 2 doses, seven days apart.

You're right. I think I've been cured for months now and I'll go for days without anything going on with my skin. But suddenly I'll be sitting quietly but then get an itchy bump out of nowhere and start to freak out. I'm immediately depressed and in a bad mood, and go into the bathroom and try to do a skin scraping (I'm no doctor, tho!) and see if I can see something under 45 magnification. I never do. Then it usually goes away in a day or two, and never starts to spread. Does NOT bother me at night. My itchiness does seem to get better after I've washed with Selsun 2.5% shampoo (not just on my hair, but all over) and leave it on for a few minutes while I'm taking a shower. Then I have to use something really moisturing like Eucerin, or use an anti-fungal cream, like the Ketoconazole the derm prescribed, along with Ammonium lactate cream 12%--it seems to help, but I don't want to use them a lot, since I believe they're still steroid-type things that can damage the skin in their own way if you use them too much.
I've noticed that my skin is incredibly sensitive to everything these days, more than ever before I got scabies. Probably from using all those permethrin treatments, which I believe can cause permanent nerve damage. If my blankets at night are the slightest bit too warm, I start to get itchy prickles all over that wake me up, and think it's The Bug coming back! But it never is (thank God). If I take off a blanket to cool off, the prickles go away. AND: I was taking doxycycline to control what I thought was a bacterial infection of my skin left over from the scabies, causing bartonella or babesia-type symptoms, and the medicine itself started causing prickling and itchiness! I stopped it immediately, and the prickling dropped down to normal.
So you really can suffer for months with other conditions after being cured of The Mite from Hell. But it will still make you crazy and depressed thinking you might have it again! I think I'll be paranoid for the rest of my life. It's like having PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder), or shell-shock. Hang in there, and try to not freak out over everything (tho it's hard not to).

One more thing: When I said that the itchiness does not bother me at night, I meant that it doesn't get worse after I get into bed, like it really did when I had scabies. But as I said, if I'm too warm at night, I start to get the prickles, which are not the same as the itches I used to get when I had scabies. The prickles go away when I cool off, and I feel normal and can sleep normally. I just wanted to clarify what I said.
