Hi everyone. I hope this changes some if not all of your lives: I have been battling scabies for 3 months now... or so I thought. I did contact scabies and so did my 2 toddlers and husband. We were diagnosed by my kids pediatrician. We all used the permitherin 5%, felt good then my husband and I would get bumps and bites about 4-5 days later... my kids a few days later. We used permitherin 2 more times with the same result. I started reading all the posts on this site and was seeing how everyone else was not being cured by all the treatments that thier doctors were perscribing. After our 3rd refill on permitherin the doctor said that we needed to see a specialist because the permitherin should have worked after the 1st time. We went to see a dermatologist, explained all this to the dermatologist, he quickly looked at us and said we did not have scabies and did not listen to what we had to say about getting bites and itching and all the classic signs of scabies. He just gave us hydrocortisone for the itch. We were irritated and scheduled another dermatologist appointment with a new doctor. In the mean time we ordered sulfur and was mixing it with lotions and vaseline and wearing it ( which was horrable). we just saw the new doctor a few days ago. This doctor looked very carefully at all of us. we told him how we had spent hundreds of hours studying about scabies and how we had all the classic signs. we said how we get the pin prick bites, more at night, intense intching, and all the treatments we had did. I was
hoping he would perscribe ivermectin for us. He also said we did not have scabies. i had bites all over my scalp and neck and showed him. He said that scabies do not usually go on the head. I thought yah thats what they say
but i beg to differ. He told us we had folliculitis which is usually caused from scabies and the treatment of scabies. He perscribed us a medication for it. I said the last doctor told us not to do anything and our bites got worse. the derm. told us thats because you need to treat your new condition. we prayed about it and hoped he was right, being that we had not seen any friends or family for 3 months and thanksgiving was just arounnd the corner. We have taken his advise and feel great! the itching is getting less and less and I finally felt secure enough to get my curtains and pillows etc. back out of bags. I can't believe i stressed that whole time about scabies when we probably had them for 1/4 of the time that we thought. if any one has questions i would be happy to answer them. I feel guilty now that i was putting toxic creams on my kids when we didn't even need
them. I hope this helps someone. I know it would have saved me time, money and greif if i would have know months ago.
I cried after I read your post. I could have wrote this myself except I didn't believe the doctor and went to another
I have since taken the ivermectin and treated with more permethrin cream and have felt pin pricks on the first day which I will then have new sores and I'm just out of my mind so depressed. I thank you for your post because I do believe be scabies have no way of surviving all the treatments I have done. This has been going on for about 2 1/2 months and they told me I didn't have it either when I had we bites showing up all over. How did they treat you folliculitis? Need answers quick. God Bless.

Thank you so much for you post. Have been going through this for 21/2 months. I cried when I read your post. I could have written it myself except I didn't believe the doctor that I did not have scabies and have since treated with ivermectin and permethrin. I already feel the pin pricks and am sure that the scabies are gone but that what I'm dealing with is folliculitis. Now I'm upset that I used more toxic chemicals wen it wasn't necessary. Please respond quickly God Bless

Hi, Mite hater seems to be gone, but I'm being treated for folliculitis after having all the same symptoms after my treatments. I still cannot be convinced the scabies are gone, but my dermatologist is positive about it. I still have itching and crawling and big new "bites". I used SO much permethrin that it now makes me feel like I have the chills if I put it on my skin.

I'm giving the folliculitis treatments a shot to see what happens. What my dermatologist gave me is an antibiotic, Cephalexin (500 mg twice a day) and the topical is Clindamycin 1% lotion applied twice a day. I'll try to update on whether it is indeed folliculitis and I get better... or if it is UNKILLABLE scabies, in which case I'll be jumping off a bridge.:) Later gators

Oh, I had also used stromectol and injectible ivermectin along with the permethrin. Too many chemicals. I did tell my dermatologist I used them and thank God he didn't dump me for it. Half the battle is finding a fabulous doctor, preferably a dermatologist that has dealt with scabies before. Call around, ask before making the appt.

One other note, things have already started to improve, but it is a rollercoaster. Yesterday was SO good, but this morning work up with new bumps and tonight very itchy again. Still, it's way better than it was before treatments. Scabies treatments were permethrin and stromectol together (2 doses a week apart, then I went crazy and did 2 more doses... so 4 doses in all, a week apart over about a month's time).

Ok, you guys are going to be so sick of me! I have another interesting thing to tell you. Like I said, I was absolutely sure I was still infested because of the new sores, pin prick biting, crawlies. In the past I've had 2 biopsies of sores and they actually came back as "consistent with the bite of an arthropod". Don't make me explain what that means, it would take too long.

This time, because I was sure that I was still infested even after the last treatment, my dermatologist told me he would biopsy any of the bumps I felt were suspicious and he would pay for it! So we biopsied 4 of them that were really itching and bothering me. Two weeks later at my appointment he showed me the lab results, ALL 4 biopsies came back as folliculitis this time.

Again, it helps to have a fabulous doctor.

Hi mad mites, all I can say is that permethrin alone doesn't work for a lot of people. I recommend 2 doses (or more, I did 4 doses) of permethrin and stromectol (or ivermectin) TOGETHER at the same time, with 7 days in-between each dose. It seems to have worked for me and many others.

You have to be patient after the doses are done because your skin takes a while to heal from the chemicals and it does still feel itchy and crawly and pinprickly, and that could last for months but unless you see new bites/sores, try to resist using more of those poisons on yourself. If you had the mites for long, you might end up with folliculitis like I did from a year's worth of damage they caused. A doc can tell the difference.

What I find interesting is the crawling sensation and how some people say it is UNDER their skin. I never had that. Just a tickling crawling feeling but above skin level. I have read that menopause will cause itchyness and a crawling feeling under the skin because of the reduction and shrinkage of collagen that happens with age. Who knows, waiting to see if that happens, not that I'm saying that's what you have... just saying that's what I've read.

The problem I now have is that I have a HUGE allergic reaction to the antibiotic that I was given for the folliculitis so I am now covered head to toe with hives. It never ends. But I'm ok with this, I know this will go away.

I really hurt for you all. I wish there were easy answers and diagnoses for us all, but medicine has it's proverbial head up it's proverbial butt.

You know what, these hives are not ok. I need to warn everyone who might see this that if you get to the point the doc is telling you that you now have folliculitis, congratulations, but do not let them give you cephalexin antibiotic for it. Read about it first especially the reaction people get with hives from this medication. Some people report having the hives nonstop for months to years after this antibiotic so please do your research.

It's a very bad hive rash, where the only thing spared right now is my face and back but it continues to spread. It was what was giving me the pinprick feelings. The pinpricks were making little raised red spots on my legs and body that all turned into all over itchy hives. I'm completely red. Thinking I should start another thread on this but I wanted to let you all know since the subject has come up here.

This happens because they are coming out of your skin. Sounds weird but that's what happens
