Oh please help! I did an extra strong 10% permethrin dip on my sclp last night.. this morning I had bites on my face and eyebrows. Now, I have bites all over my face and by body is startingto itch-they are NOW on my body! I CAN'T give this to my cats and dogs-onedog has it and I gave her ivermectin on Sunday and she is now worse, too! Now, tonight, I just look1.7 mls of ivermectin 1% njectible for cattle, and I took it orally! I am scared. If it doesnt work I dont know what I'm going to do. What could have happened withthepermethrin? Did allthe scabies go running from my scalp because of the permethrin dip onmy scalp? previous to today I only had it on my scalp!

I think I get it now. The permethrin dip that I did was way too diluted. I thought I did a 105 dip but it was really like a .10% dip and I think tht really got them mad! They are now everythwere. I hope the ivermectinworks tonight.

Chris
I would recommend applying the permethrin at 5% consentrate, by adding half lotion to it, and then applying it from the soles of your feet, to the top of your scelp, also to all of your hair.
They migrate on the body, so just treating the effected area will not really help at all.
As for your animals people recommend putting them on revolution, you may also consider keeping them away from you for a while. Either outside if its warm enough, or somewhere that you can clean and bleach down the floors everyday (I use my bathroom) just until you have this under control and have gotten rid of it, otherwise your animals will be roaming around and on beds etc like mine were, which really makes the problem hard to contain.
Dont worry so much, read the threads on here, there are lots of great answers and advice, you will get through this

thanks so much Zzooks, I appreciate it. I cant isolate my pets, I have 4 big dogs, and several cats. And, bythe way, for anyone reading thsis post, I GOT scabies from when I last got a haircut 3 weeks ago. Immeditely noticed mild itching, then dandruff and scabs, and 5 days ago intense crawling itchng and bites. Nowits out of control, bt I think I can feel the ivermectin starting to work. I took it about one and a half hours ago.

also know that even after the scabies are gone you will itch some too, not uncommon--i did and intensely at times (BUT OH WAS IT A GOOD ITCH!!! ;P ) maybe even worse, because your body is still purging itself of them.

This mornng I woke up with a great itch all oer my scalp, I think it is from chemical burns from the permethrin. I'm happy to report that I have not felt one mange bite since last night. Before I went to bed I put the 5% everywhere, drenched y head downto my feet and put someon my dogs stomachand underarms where she has burrows. The ivermectin pls thepermethrin I believe are working now its just matter of thoroughly cleaning my house. My whole bodyandscalp is tingling and burning. ShouldIbe rinsing the permethrin dip at all? Thanks for everyone's support

yes perm will burn/irritate your skin some, it did mine, but to me thats a small price to have to pay in getting rid of them.

I got scabies from the gym I work out at and what a nightmare it's been. I've treated with Permethrin 5% 3 times once per week from neck to toes. I'm going to keep this routine until I no longer get any bites. Any advice?

Is this the human perm? If so I would say leave it on for at least 16 hours, several docs told me and others 24 hours is ok. When I first started using it I left it on only 7-8 hours. That wasn't long enough. If that doesn't work go back to your doc and request ivermectin. Clean everything as suggested in these posts.

Yes, this is the human permethrin. Good advice, i'll give it a try. Where do you get Ivermectin? It's not on my drug list from my health care provider and I can't find it in the local drug stores.

This looks like pretty good info from Pubmed.

Indian J Pediatr. 2007 Oct;74(10):915-6. Links

Efficacy of permethrin cream and oral ivermectin in treatment of scabies.Abedin S, Narang M, Gandhi V, Narang S.

Department of Pediatrics, Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Institute, Delhi, India.

OBJECTIVE: To compare the efficacy of mass treatment of scabies with permethrin cream and oral ivermectin in a closed urban pediatric population. METHODS: A comparative trial of topical permethrin and oral ivermectin was conducted in a closed population of 84 children living in a urban hostel of Delhi. RESULTS: After mass treatment with 2 doses of oral ivermectin, one case was recorded in following 6 months, as compared to 22 cases in preceding 6 months when children were treated with a single application of 5% permethrin. CONCLUSION: Mass treatment of scabies with ivermectin in an endemic population is more efficacious as compared to topical permethrin application in reducing the baseline prevalence, decreasing the chain of transmission and chances of reinfection.

Ivermectin is an excellent scabies treatment choice for individuals too.

As of 2006, CDC treatment guidelines recommend Ivermectin as a first choice treatment for scabies right along side Permetrin. This should be enough to convince any MD to write an Rx. Some pharmacies carry Stromectol or will have to order it. Call around. Rite Aid may have it. It's still an off label drug, far as I know. Still, MD,'s write Rx's for off label drugs frequently. And Ivermectin has been safey used on millions of humans. Plus, different forms of Avermectins are safely used to control parasites on farm animals and companion animals.

Link to CDC guidelines. The only thing I would change is the timing of dose. I'd take Ivermectin every 5 to 7 days for about 4 or 5 treatments. And I'd use a topical in addition to the systemic Ivermectin.

Hi everyone. I hope this changes some if not all of your lives: I have been battling scabies for 3 months now... or so I thought. I did contact scabies and so did my 2 toddlers and husband. We were diagnosed by my kids pediatrician. We all used the permitherin 5%, felt good then my husband and I would get bumps and bites about 4-5 days later... my kids a few days later. We used permitherin 2 more times with the same result. I started reading all the posts on this site and was seeing how everyone else was not being cured by all the treatments that thier doctors were perscribing. After our 3rd refill on permitherin the doctor said that we needed to see a specialist because the permitherin should have worked after the 1st time. We went to see a dermatologist, explained all this to the dermatologist, he quickly looked at us and said we did not have scabies and did not listen to what we had to say about getting bites and itching and all the classic signs of scabies. He just gave us hydrocortisone for the itch. We were irritated and scheduled another dermatologist appointment with a new doctor. In the mean time we ordered sulfur and was mixing it with lotions and vaseline and wearing it ( which was horrable). we just saw the new doctor a few days ago. This doctor looked very carefully at all of us. we told him how we had spent hundreds of hours studying about scabies and how we had all the classic signs. we said how we get the pin prick bites, more at night, intense intching, and all the treatments we had did. I was hoping he would perscribe ivermectin for us. He also said we did not have scabies. i had bites all over my scalp and neck and showed him. He said that scabies do not usually go on the head. I thought yah thats what they say but i beg to differ. He told us we had folliculitis which is usually caused from scabies and the treatment of scabies. He perscribed us a medication for it. I said the last doctor told us not to do anything and our bites got worse. the derm. told us thats because you need to treat your new condition. we prayed about it and hoped he was right, being that we had not seen any friends or family for 3 months and thanksgiving was just arounnd the corner. We have taken his advise and feel great! the itching is getting less and less and I finally felt secure enough to get my curtains and pillows etc. back out of bags. I can't believe i stressed that whole time about scabies when we probably had them for 1/4 of the time that we thought. if any one has questions i would be happy to answer them. I feel guilty now that i was putting toxic creams on my kids when we didn't even need them. I hope this helps someone. I know it would have saved me time, money and greif if i would have know months ago.

Mite Hater,
I did not know that folliculitis was caused from Scabies. How does it physically feel to have folliculitis? Did you ever seen any mites?
I really appreciate you sharing your story. I know we all similar symtoms but sometimes different causes. It is good to share these differences. I hope you & your family are healed soon & have a good thanksgiving. MIS

Mite hater, thanks for sharing your story. Let us know the final chapter. What script did the doc give you for it and what was the recommended treatment protocol?

my nephew and his family originally contacted scabies and then my family got it. I was getting irritated that we were still feeling infested after the 2nd dose of permitherin. We were still feeling pinpricks, getting red bites, having new bumps, intense itching, and creepy crawly feelings ( this was the same symptoms from start to finish) that is why we were convinced that we were not cured even after our 1st dermatologist appointment which said we were just having an reaction to the permitherin. I couldn't figure why we would still get bites and all the other symptoms. when we did nothing to see if we had been over treating our selves it got worse.( the 2nd dermatologist said that was because we weren't treating the folliculitis.) The "bites" that continured were the follicules being irritated and inflamed ( pinpricks and red spots) after our 2nd permitherin treatment my head started getting itchy and i had "bites" all long my hair line and scalp and i thought " they said scabies don't go on your head" i figured because after we were still having symptoms after our 1st treatment it must have been because we did not treat our scalp, so the 2nd time we did, all four of us put it on our scalp, i was the only one that was getting "bites" on my head. now it makes sense that my head was itchy being that the medicine effected my hair follicules. to answer your questions:I never saw any mites for sure, there were times i thought i did but can't be sure. the folliculits has the exact same symptoms as when we had scabies, and the more we treated our selves the worse it got. there were times that i felt like some one had injected them under my skin above my knuckles, you could see bumps under the skin and they itched like crazy as did everything else. Plus the more we treated our selves the more areas of our bodies felt and looked infested. I just couldn't believe after all the symptoms we were experiencing and talking on this forum and reading that everyone else was experiencing the same problems as me, that the doctors were still persistant that Permitherin is the best treatment choice and only needs to be used once. I thought if only these doctors could see on here all the people still infested and trying all the different treatments they could. So i just have to wonder who else like me is convinced that they are still infested but really are not. No one to visit and no where to go for 3 months, that starts to make you crazy! I was scrubbing my house everyday, washing loads of laundry a day, using the dawn/water to spray everything down and vaccuming everything 2-3 times a day, I bought plastic covers for our matresses and pillows and spent hundreds of dollars trying to kill off all these mites that seem to be multiplying. I asked the doctor who diagnosed us with folliculitis if we would still feel what felt like bites and get bumps he said "yes" and that they could appear any where and at any time for months. I am convinced we are cured of scabies and probably have been for weeks if not months. we all feel great and the itching had decreased to 1/4 of what it was and we are finally going to see family today. i hope this is the case for alot of you. I think this whole ordeal has been one of the most depressing and isolating incident in my life. The doctor perscribed:Clindamycin 1% gel 2x daily.( it is usually perscribed to treat acne) we have not recieved any new red spots but do feel pinpricks every once in a while still. My sister and her family have also have the "bite feeling" months after being treated and still every once in a while get itchy spots but have had no new bite spots or bumps since being treated thier 1st time. Thanks for your best wishes. I hope this helps you all to maybe find why you continue to feel infested with scabies after all your hard work too. I hope you all have a great thanksgiving also.

I had the same feelings as mite hater but I have been reading about mite phermones and mite phermones will cause other types of mites to be attracted to you.

I kept on getting the pin pricks but no burrow.

Then I realized I was only getting pin pricks on my hands but not the rest of my body.

I was no longer getting scabie bites but dust mites that are normally happy waiting inside of matteress, pillows and carpets waiting for pieces of skin to eat were then being attracted to me due to pharmones left on my by scabies.

Dust mites don't actually bite but their spines on their backs sides do feel like bites. Some people do actually claim that dust mites do "bite" them especially people that work with old files.

So, I feel the scabies pharmone on us remains after the scabies are gone and the pin pricks are actually dust mites.

Wednesday night I realized that durning my showers I am spraying listerine on all my body except my hands.

Stupid me.

The body part that was actally spraying my body was not getting sprayed.

It is my firm belief that the listerine not only rinses off the crawlers but washes off the pharmones that attracts mites to us.

I washed my hands very good Wednesday night and Thurday morning with Listerine.

No more pin pricks what-so-ever.

Other people please try this if you are over the burrows and are only getting pin pricks.

Try it on your knuckels of one hand or whereever you are getting pin pricks and see if the pin pricks stop in that area.

I can't guarantte it will work on everyone but it has worked for me and pin pricks have stopped over night.

Let me know you-alls results.
