Yes, I'm using coconut oil too. I mix it with epsom
salts, I figure the sulfur in the salts helps.

About to lose it wrote:
This morning I woke up at 5:30 AM itching like hell and started crying when I saw my arm. I've been struggling with scabies or post scabies symptoms since mid Jan. when there was an outbreak among my friends and a whole handful of them got it. When I found out I had them I only had one cluster of red dots (not bumps) on my inner thigh and some on my butt. I tried the washable marker ink test and sure enough I found 2 burrow marks. Nearly 2 months and 2.5 tubes of permethrin later (4 full body applications and numerous spot and area applications) I am at my worse point ever. Almost a week ago (Thurs) several tiny little pimple/blister like bumps started popping up on my forearm, and now its Wednesday morning and I am covered in literally thousands of bumps and they are about to drive me over the wall. I was going to go another application of the medicine last week, but then I saw this post and decided to wait it out, but now I just don't know what to do.
I just got a job where I can NOT have scabies. It would just be devastating. Also, my insurance doesn't start until April 1st, so I might just bite the bullet and go to a dermatologist early and pay in full, ugh! I just dont want this to spread to my hands, neck or face where it'll be visible at work.
The bumps are teeny tiny, and dont seem to be in clusters, they are just everywhere... it almost seems like its spreading though, which is really really scary.
Here are some things that give me reason to think that this is post treatment eczema or dermatitis (Seems like too many bumps to be post scabies debris)....
1. This looks nothing like the first rash I had when I found out I had scabies
2. I haven't found any burrow marks with a washable marker... I know this isn't a fool proof test.
3. All of my friends that had them... unless they aren't publicly talking about it... haven't been experiencing the crazy shit I have... maybe cause they just used permethrin once.
4. It seems like if this was scabies, these critters would be working awful fucking fast to go from a few bumps to thousands in a matter of days... don't they normally work in clusters, not just cover an entire area?!
5. None of my roommates or friends (the ones that hadnt had the scabies before) have caught them.
Some things that worry me:
1. The areas that I really really assaulted with the cream were my chest and stomach, and those are broken out now the least. I'm mostly breaking out on my arms and lower legs, where I put the least amount of permethrin
2. This rash ain't going away any time soon it seems. Its not one of those situations where a bump pops up and in 36 hours its gone.
3. This itching is the worse I've felt.
Any words of wisdom or encouragement? I really really need it.
It sounds a lot more like post-scabies to me. Try doing the Biosilk treatment. I really think it helps speed this process up. Also, treat the itch with anti-itch creams for some relief. Benedryl pills as well.

Just wanted to come back and update my thread. Since some time in early February I have not had another post-scabies outbreak. My skin is not quite as dry as it once was, and isn't itchy from the dryness anymore. I can say with much confidence and elation that I am cured.

I still have faint scarring from the burrows on the back of my leg but otherwise, I'm feeling great. I'll keep coming back here to answer questions as long as there are questions. And thank you to those if you who have posted your own treatment successes.

I have scabies currently in the exact same place as you did and the pictures are crazy because that is exactly what my calves look like right now, miserable! I like quick fixes and wish the doctor would have told me what you just did! THANK YOU! My husband has no signs yet and I have washed everything but don't know whether we should both do a perm treatment together???? I would hate to be reinfected because he has no signs yet! Your thoughts? He and the doctor seemed to take it lightly and I've been losing my mind!!!! Is there any chance they are still alive after perm, I left it in for 24 hours per my doctor 4 days ago!

Crazed by scabies in WA -
Yes, your husband should use the Perm as well as we can go without sign or symptom for a few weeks.

I would also recommend the Biosilk that everyone's talking about in the rest of the forum. It shows you what's in your skin...and makes it come out. It's expensive, but a small price for piece of mind.

I highly doubt that the scabies is alive still. Stay strong and don't treat again with the perm until at least 7 days has passed AND you are absolutely certain of reinfection. I'm telling you, the mind games will never end if you keep treating.

The itchiness is as bad as scabies after you treat with perm. Take a really close look at your scabies, see if they look the same. See if you seem to be getting more. If yes, compare them to your old scabies OR to the pictures here if we have similar bites. Good luck to you! See if the itch is relieved by taking a Benedryl or using a good hydro-cortizone cream.

Oh, and keep washing your bedding. Bag up things you can't wash like throw pillows. Keep just a small selection of clothing you'll wear after you wash everything you own. Keep those outfits separate from the things in your closet and dresser. I washed and bagged my comforter and used a bunch of smaller lighter blankets instead while I was going through treatment. Easy to say from Sunny Florida, I know!

Man - one more thing, pick up some mattress and pillowcase covers. Read the packaging. It should say that it protects from dust mites as well. I think they're for people with allergies. When you're washing all of your sheets and things, seal your bed and pillowcases. Again, expensive, but knowing you've conquered that area and it can't reinfect you will give you some of your sanity back. I know that "losing my mind" feeling from this all too well.

Thank you for your support Reina last night after reading this I washed down with some 3% sulfur soap I picked up, then cooled down my legs with ice infront of fan, patted dry and rubbed down with cocunut oil since I had some 100% organic in the kitchen! Also slept with the window open to keep cool and this morning they looked 50% better! I think it was that my skin needed to be moisturized! I am going to pick up the biosilk and plastic bedding today! Then when I hit my 7 days Tuesday my husband and I will do another perm treatment! Appreciate the support, it's amazing how tramatic this how ordeal can be, its tormenting! So goodluck to anyone else suffering out there :)

Hello Reina your posts are really inspiring. I have had scabies since about July. It has been absolute hell, as you all know. I have been trying to stay away from EVERYONE since I was diagnosed because I would never want to pass this torture on to someone else. One thing I can't understand is how I haven't given it to anyone before. I have slept with people prior to knowing what I actually had. I thought at first it was bed bugs..

Since I was diagnosed, I have tried permethrin 5% 6 times.. I just feel like it won't go away.. I have almost come to the point where I think I will have this for the rest of my life. Almost given up. I feel like I can feel them moving on my skin, but I'm not sure if maybe it's all in my head.. Has anyone else felt this way with post scabies? I also believe they are on my head, I feel like they are crawling through my hair.. I shaved my head, put the permethrin on it a few times.. I even bought a new mattress.

I get random scabies all over, but they seem to go away quite quickly and new ones pop up.. There have been a few WONDERFUL days where I felt as if they were gone completely.. What a great feeling.. But they have returned. The weird thing is that the bumps on my skin usually always went away quite quickly.. A few days maybe, and new ones came up. Is that normal of scabies? My doctor told me outright that it was scabies, she was sure on sight with a magnifying glass that there were mites living in my skin..

A friend of mine gave me this random cream, I think it may be cortisone cream, it was for eczema.. When I put it on my bumps it really seems to help with both the itching and removing the bump. I tried putting it on a quite large pump on my forearm, and it was basically gone the next day.. Turned into more of a little pimple rather than a large bump..

I have locked myself away from my life and friends for too long. This truly is a lonely condition. But after reading this, I think maybe I should stop taking the permethrin.. And wait it out.. But I'm worried it will just get worse.. I feel like the last application I did, it was perfect. I was extremely careful. But with all these new bumps showing up, it's hard to believe it is gone..

Hoping to God I get rid of this by summer.. I can't imagine being hot all the time with this itch!

I got diagnosed with scabies on Friday, by my primary doctor, and I got stressed out.
The doctor said it is because I just traveled last month and might get it from the hotel where I stayed.
I have a 2 years old daugther and I am afraid she will get it.
Cleaning my house, laundry like crazy, ironing, cleaning the bath rooms etc... all kind of crazy possible stuff that I can do!!! clean and clean...
My wife also kick me out from the bed room =(
Anyway, the doctor prescribe me with Permithin cream, Stromectol for the scabies (4 tables 1 day dose), and Hydroxyzine for the itching.
Did the cream Friday night and Saturday night, the itch still there but not as bad as before.
But my hand still bubbly water and it has more that before.
Rash around genital area too. NOT ON THE PENIS it self.
So everyday I have to wear glove and cannot touch my daughter at all, and cannot stay close either.. I am really sad.
Wearing double shirts and long john all day.
Tuesday come, I feel just a bit itchy, and call my doctor because the bubble still comes out, little by little.
I ask him to refer me to dematologist, and I known this dermatologiest for years, this is his profile http://bit.ly/aYpwmH ,
Ok, I got an appointment for Wednesday Morning....
Got it in there and doctor ask me whats going on, what do I have...
I said "I got scabies"....... Doctor look at me and touch my hand and look around my rashes...
NOPE.... IT IS AN ALERGY!!! not SCABIES..
What.... are you sure doc??? 100%???
YES!.
He said, I dont have the caracteristic of scabies, no rash between my finggers, no rash under my armpit (not around it), NO RASH ON MY PENIS it self... and the rash is not scabies rash, just alergic rash...
OMG OMG OMG and Thanks God for this good doctor.
Now I am sure, it is because the diet pill that I took in the past 3 weeks. BTW, never buy those diet pill that are not FDA approved, eventhough I lose 10 lbs from it =)
So, doctor give me injection and he saw my but again and he said nope.. this is not scabies for sure.
He prescribe with Prednisone and some cream for my ezcema, which make my rash look really bad =).
And he said I should be fine by the end of today or tomorrow...
Yeap... at night the bubble on my palm and is going away way way better than before, and my rash on my arm is start fading away.
This morning, the rash around my genital area is start clearing up, I can see my clear skin again =)
Please please please always go to dematologist for any skin problem... and always ask 2nd opinion for something big like this.
Any sickness could ruin a relationship and someone's life.
and for those who have scabies, hanging there.... you will be recover and clean for the rest of your life.
Make sure you clean everything and do as the good doctor ask you to do.
I know it is hard and it is sad.. but believe it, there is always hope.
Love one, please be patient to those who has scabies.... love them not hate them... they are still your love one no mater what.
p.s. always take COLD SHOWER....
cheers

Just an update I used my second treatment of permethrin! 2 days later they were almost gone, it's been about 10 days! I had washed everything including my sheets daily until about 4 days ago with borax and washed daily with sulfur soap! My husband did the last treatment with me and has never shown any signs of scabies although we slept in the same bed the whole time! I got it from hotel stay as well but I was able to get over them at least I hope!!!!

Thanks for the information. I have some questions i really hope you can answer. Scabies are driving me crazy!!
Bit of background: I came home from uni for the holidays 2 days ago and yesterday i found out i have scabies. The tell-tale marks between my fingers and body rash (primarily on stomach) gave the game away. It's torture!

The doctor gave me Derbac M (Malathion) and following the instructions covered myself from the neck down with it. I felt much better this morning, although still a little itchy and am mentally trying to prepare myself for post-scabies paranioa, BUT i am totally freaking out that the scabies are everywhere in the house. Ive washed my clothes in hot water but I'm not sure its safe to wear them again?

Also do you know how long do scabies live for off the body? I keep reading conflicting information that ranges from 72 hours to 2 weeks.??

And do you think that after coating my body with Derbac M the scabies will have retreated into the mattress to get me another night?

Also, since i have returned home for the holidays, my bed, room and clothes back at my flat must be riddled with scabies and i'm scared that when i go back in a week I'll pick up the scabies again while i'm trying to wash everything.

Argh! This is living hell! My heart goes out to anyone who is going through this.

Scabies Suck - I'm not really sure how long scabies last off the body, but I would definitely go on the side of caution and wash everything again. Your clothing and bedding should be fine after washing. You just have to prevent your body from being able to reinfect things afterward. Bag up things that cannot be washed, make sure they're sealed up good. Go to the store and buy a mattress cover and pillowcase cover to seal your mattress and pillow. Be sure that the cover protects against dust mites as scabies are mites as well. So when you wash your sheets and blankets, cover your mattress up with the cover, make sure you don't have any holes in the cover after you put it on. Cover your pillow as well. This should keep your mattress and pillow from reinfecting you.

After that, keep a simple set of clothing to wear during the week, a towel, a facecloth, blanket(s) and a pillow (get pillowcase covers for as many pillows as you keep out for yourself) that you can use every day. You will wash these things every day and keep them separate from where you normally store your clothing, bedding, and linens. Don't crack into the bags of other things until you're sure that your scabies are gone. You should also vacuum every day as well if you have carpet.

Just stay on top of it for a few weeks so you can determine whether or not you've been reinfected. I also don't think that they will jump on you while you're washing everything, but if you're worried about it, look around the site here for something to rub yourself down with to keep them off when you're doing that. Like maybe rub down with the brown Listerine after you do a load of laundry. They hate that stuff. If you can get your hands on some Biosilk (read the thread here about Biosilk) do that. Good luck!

they can last off the body anywhere from 3 days to 30 days. depending on whether the air is humid or dry, and if they are living in the carpet, they seem to last longer there, and in the car. the car is like an incubator. so are covers, socks, mattresses, etc.

I do hope that I am not raining on your parade Tav, but I have gotten those same shots and pills too many times to count over the last year+. In the begining with the first shot, I could actually watch the rash vanish it was so quick, then after that, the shots would help but not clear up the rash. Then they began prescribing prednisone for me. First dose was 30mg a day for 3 days, then 20 for 3 then 10mg for 3 days. Worked great first time, after second time not so good it was changed a bit so taking each level for 5 days. Worked better first two scripts of it but not so good the last time. This current round was for 60mg for 7 days, 40 for 7, then 20 for 7. I am halfway through the 40 mg round of it and even with it being this high and for longer, I am seeing very little relief. My first derm I went to said that it was ezema and contact dermititis. The second one actually finally wanted to do some tests and through a biopsy confirmed that it was scabies. Prednisone and medrol shots (another steroid) only treat the infectioned caused because of the itching. My skin would be completely cleared but yet I still had the creepy crawly feeling all over! Doctors seem to want to ignore this and not take us seriously and calling it ezema or something similiar is something they can treat easily, unlike scabies.

Had any one sprayed their house down with the "lice treatment"??? My doctor told me to do that you spray your bed, carpet, and any thing else that cannot be washed to make sure the mite is not living in there because if you still have the mite its being transferred to other places tho they do die after so long without a host to feed on you are still dealing with the mite being some where and risking catching it again just from your bed even though the treatment has been done...its called rid and it is a spray can..try it

PS..do not over use the cream it will damage your skin horribly!! i have a problem with eczema after using the cream so many time! i never had a problem with it before until after dealing with this scabies crap..if you think you still have scabies after doing 2 treatments on the cream ask your doctor about the pills and try only 1 more cream treatment..the pill is to kill off the eggs that havent hatched yet, and the cream is to kill the mites..GOOD LUCK to anyone who is dealing with it and remember to relax it takes alot of time to clear this up and just because there is still a rash and some itching does not mean you still have scabies -- its healing!!!

Nice thread. It's important to have a little faith in your treatment, be it permethrin or whatever. Considering this is something the human eye can't see, you can easily come to believe that they are everywhere, are zipping around at amazing speeds, flying, and plenty seem to think they are invincible as well.

This forum is for the paranoid in most cases, the impatient that don't let their skin heal, and rarely for those that can't kill the bug....which often is because they never had a bug at all. Normally if you are reinfected it's because you didn't treat this like a full on battle and take the steps that even most doctors suggest (clean, treat everyone in the household, avoid possible origin of infestation, etc.). Mites are slow, mites are vulnerable to many things (especially the treatments your doctor will give you), mites starve quickly, and mites are...well....mites.

Alot of the people that often stirred up the most skepticism and ridiculous opinions about the mites are gone because they finally realized they didn't have scabies or that they were cured from their very first treatment but kept soaking themselves in harmful chemicals instead of letting their body AND mind heal. I wish everyone the best of luck, and hope that everyone will be able to decipher the truth from the crap that can be easily found on these forums.

Treat with what you have, preferably those that the doctor has suggested or prescribed that are known to and WILL kill them and move on with your life. Good luck again!

<quoted text>
I don't know why someone on here stated that they disagree with Tired and Itchy. He/she is referring to steroids, which only help with the inflamation and histamine reaction to the mites. The steroids will not kill the mite. Tired and Itchy knows now that this mite needs to be treated with something that will kill the mite, not just relieve the symptoms. He/she is not clueless, not anymore. Again, the docs are not familiar with parasites of this nature. They are used to treating viruses and bacterial infections and other diseases. These mites are parasites. Steroids do not kill parasites.

Hi Peyton's Mom: What "pill" are you referring to? In all the studying that I have done on this mite, I have never found a med which will kill the eggs. Stromectol comes in pill form. It will kill the adult mite, but not the immature mite or the egg.
