I've seen way too many mistakes regarding Ivermectin dosage, and I'm getting really concerned that someone is going to overdose on it.

Ivermectin, like pretty much all scabies cures, is a *poison*- the idea is to find the balance between what's not harmful to humans, but still deadly to the mites.

From what I recall, the dosage is 200 MICROgrams per KG of your body weight, NOT MILLIgrams.

Meaning: 0.2mg *NOT* 200mg.

If you're going to take a dose of Ivermectin, it should be little more than a thimble-full of the stuff.

If you take 200mg+, you'll quite possibly die, at the very least get very sick.

Thank you scabiesvictim. That is important--just the info I've been looking for. However, the human brand, Stromectol, has demonstrated an amazingly safe side effect profile. Yes, it's crucial not to overdose, which is why I've been asking how to take the horse paste, etc. But it is also important to know that, taken correctly, there appear to be practically no long-term side effects. It is recommended that ivermectin can be taken again if the patients relapses or has been undertreated. Actually, it has one of the best safety profiles I've ever seen, and I read that damn clinical data all day long, it's what I do.

Yes, Ivermectin is pretty safe compared to the other scabies treatments (with exception to sulphur, though it's not as effective/easy...). However, treating that "ug" symbol as milligrams and taking the Iver accordingly would almost certainly be deadly.

I had replied to my own post and talked about the half-life (IIRC 18 hours). I presume that it was deleted by the mods (I've had other posts go missing for no reason). This forum is really obnoxious for that.

Anyway, it was just a message to remind everyone that there is still Ivermectin in their system after a few days, so be careful if taking it multiple times.

Well good news on my end, I just recently saw my infectious disease doc and even though she seemed annoyed with me, she also seemed to have learned a little something since the last time I saw her, she gave me a script for 3 doses of ivermectin 12 mgs each, along with two tubes of perm to filled at once along with with two refills,(still stingy with the refills though)all while acting like she doesn't know why I still have it, saying that she's treated people with Norwegian scabies and they were cured, however the last time I saw her she knew very little and I could tell, but this time when she prescribed the iver she actually had a schedule all worked out, 1 dose right away, then another in a week then another in three weeks, which is consistent with the link that Janetinnyc gave out a few months ago.(the drug store messed up though and gave me 5 doses) that's the other thing the last time I had the precription for one dose they'd never heard of it, neither had my insurance co. which is how I ended up ordering from Magic Pharmacy, this time it was in stock by Merck and my insurance even covered it.(makes me wonder how many folks in my area are running around with this crap)
Because I seemed annoyed with her right back, she told me if I needed more down the line to come back and we'll talk about it then,(sounds hopeful for a change) I threw up the pharmacist and the Doc in Florida that Janetinnyc told us about and told her folks were considering travelling to Florida just to see this person, because knowledgeable help was so hard to find in certain areas regarding this. That pissed her off I could tell....lol, she shot back, I'm helping you!
That's when she said what she said about coming back if I needed to, I asked her about parasitogists, she referred me to Jacoby Hospital in the Bronx in NY, if after this treatment, I keep having problems, I am seriously considering heading over to the clinic there....
Ok, I know I always come back with tons to say, sorry but I want to share, in regards to the stromectol by Merck, it was packaged very differently from the Magic Pharmacy stuff, looked different too, it was white smaller, could have been because I got the 3mg. size tabs as opposed to the 12mg. size I ordered from Magic, also it doesn't taste sweet, I wanted to check the taste right away because that was something that concerned me about the Magic stuff, I couldn't decide if it were real or not.
The other thing I noticed is that it came packaged in foil, opaque all around with intstructions that it shouldn't be exposed to light, and kept in a cool dark place, the Magic stuff was in a semi clear blister pack, the effectiveness, if it was real could've been effected by that.

Lastly, I read a month or two ago where someone suggested mixing vaseline with the perm to make it last longer, I did just that, mixed pretty much a whole tube with a large jar of vaseline, makes it last longer and doesn't seem to kill it, I mean I still get dizzy and all the other side effects same as if I were to use it full strength, just takes longer to get to me but seems to work the same either way, just last longer,(really is a good idea for folks paying for it) plus in spite of the side effects, she wanted me to use it my scalp as well, that helped pretty good there, that vaseline trick kept me from getting as sick as I normally do from using it in the scalp, I do have a question though, someone posted a while back about not washing for a couple of days with the stromectol, could someone help me out with that info? And I'll keep you guys posted about the Merck stuff and how that seems to be working.
Question for Janetinnyc.....First HI!!!! And your posts have been invaluable, now you said that you were reading a side-effect profile on stromectol would you happen to have a link for that? Being able to read that would give me the extra peace of mind I need while dealing with the Stromectol.....(still a little nervous about it)Thank you in advance.
The bottom line people is get that script!!!! If you have insurance call the ins. company, find out if it's on their formulary list, if it isn't tell them to get it there, I did that a few months back when I got the first script, I used at Magic and they actually listened. I feel a whole lot better knowing that I can get it from a reputable pharmacy that I'm familiar with then having to send off somewhere that I am not sure about, for those who don't have insurance, especially folks just getting this mite, then pay for it out of pocket, if you can, otherwise go to a free clinic, often times they will send you to a pharmacy they have connections with and in those cases, the prescription is only $5.00.(depending on how they do it where you're from)
Good luck again everyone, my prayers are always with anyone living with this nightmare and I'll be back as usual, with updates to read or maybe next time I will be on the I'm cured board.....I hope.

I took that 1st dosage of stromectol about 4 days ago, permed myself from head to toe, today I felt pretty good the next day except I noticed some activity starting from my navel up to my chin so I spot permed, by Thursday seemed like transient sensations, today I woke up feeling as if I had gone completely backwards, I mean like I hadn't taken anything! I mean itching in areas where I haven't had activity in months......What gives? My next dose doesn't happen until next week...This is the Merck stuff so I was hoping for good results, anybody got any ideas?

Ive had scabies since 7/08. No scrapings but definitely the "S" and "C" formation of bumps. I also have scalp/face/neck involvement.
Initially the rash was BAD. That cleared good with the permethrin and now my doc thinks Im clear and wont give me any more meds.(I used about 3 tubes of permethrin over a 4 week period) I have usually about 5-10 new bumps a day and crawlies with pin pricks.
I have been treating myself with the 10% sulfur since I ran out of the permethrin.
I ordered the ivermectin and received it today, Scavista brand,(10) 3 mg. tablets. My weight is 159lbs.. My understanding is:
Take my weight and convert to mg. 159 lbs = 72.1221. multiply that by 0.2 = 14.4 mg. per dose.
I also treated last night with the sulphur creme for 16 hours and showered..
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

That Ivermectin dose is ok. I've doubled the dose for myself and my pets without any problems. Keep using sulfur full body for 3 days, wait 3 days and repeat a few times. Think about who(host-human or animal)or what(fomite) may be reinfesting you. It's harder and takes longer to cure when it's been bad... can you leave your home for a week or more while you treat? If you get better, you know it's your environment or a host you didn't have contact with while gone.

It's your call since you arn't just relying on Ivermectin and you're using topicals (sulfur) or another scabicide. Think about the mites life cycle of 28 to 30 days which has to be broken. Eggs hatch out every 5 to 10 days but Ivermectin won't kill immature mites and nothing kills the eggs.

Vets treat mange with Ivermectin every 7 days or every 10 days for 3 or 4 weeks.

In theory, treatments every 7 days for 4 to 5 weeks should take care of any stage of mites(exept ova).... just keep using the topical too.. definatly is a must and it wouldn't hurt. Take plenty of scrub down showers in between treatments. Use home products on your body which are mite repellants like citrus, salt, rosemary, lavendar etc. Borax in your laundry loads. Best of luck to you! Check out the threads for valuable info. People have worked very hard here to try and help others beat these mites back down to hell.

Be well.
