Just wondering. If so, how long do I leave the microwave on for?

yes, it does kill the mites. You have to play with this. I used to put my sneakers in the microwave for a minute and then wait and do another minute. you have to be careful with the microwave, because it may ruin the clothes. only do it for a few seconds to a minute to begin with. Can you just imagine the mites actually popping because of the heat? yeah, right on!!! pop you little f heads.

this is very interesting. it's suppose to snow here tomorrow (colorado), so i'm not kidding when writing that i think i'll pop my long-johns and socks and nuke them as a try-out. thanks for the idea.

I microwave damp kitchen sponge for 2 minutes. Kills germs.

There's also hotsie totsie which is a little pillow filled with cherry pits. You microwave it for a short time to heat up to warm your bed.

Use arm and hammer powdered laundry detergent.
Ironing also kills mites.

Socks cannot take two minutes....I've burnt up many a pair. 1 to 1 1/2 minutes at most.

Here's something that helps. Take your socks and shake them out really good. Hit them up against the wall. That will remove the mites. Same with covers, sheets, pillows. Beat the heck out of them and the mites will fall out. I do this all the time and it works.
