Abstract

The role of quorum sensing (QS) is well known in microbial pathogenicity and antibiotic resistance. QS is responsible for motility, swarming, and biofilm production based on the signal molecules, e.g., acylated homoserine lactones (AHLs) produced by micro-organisms above certain population density. The inhibition of QS may reduce pathogenicity, antibiotic resistance and biofilm formation in systemic and local infections. The homoserine lactones and other transmitters contribute to antibiotic resistance and pathogenicity of several bacteria; consequently the inhibition of QS signals reduces the problem of resistance and virulence. Due to the increasing number of persistent non-treatable infections, there is an urgent need to develop new strategies to combat infections that destabilize bacterial communities in the host. The effect of essential oils on bacterial growth and QS were evaluated using the sensor strain Chromobacterium violaceum CV026 and N-acyl homoserine lactone (AHL) producing Escherichia coli ATTC 31298 and the grapevine colonizing Ezf 10-17 strains. Of the tested oils, rose, geranium, lavender and rosemary oils were the most potent QS inhibitors. Eucalyptus and citrus oils moderately reduced pigment production by CV026, whereas the chamomile, orange and juniper oils were ineffective.

So you should be able to eat rosemary..........very interesting.

It's interesting how far the mites will go to SURVIVE. This paragraph about quorum sensing is interesting. So, if spider mites go to this extreme to survive (as a colony), then just think how far human scabies mites or animal mites will go to survive.

How They Spread

As the colony grows and the heavily infested plant begins to die, they instinctively sense that it is time to move on to a new home, preferably far away from yours. They set about producing additional silk threads and begin to make their way to the apex of the plant. They pass this ‘go’ message amongst each other through a phenomenon known as quorum sensing.

Once they reach the peak of the plant, they fashion themselves into a ball. The less mature ones tend towards the center, where they become trapped and often die. The adults group themselves on the outside, and then they wait.

They are waiting for a gust of wind, an animal or maybe even you to brush up against them and transport them to a new location. This is why it is not uncommon to come out to your garden or greenhouse one day and find a sudden infestation on your previously uninfected crops.

I used to discussed PHEROMONES, and how the mites send signals to each other by smells, etc., and how they will work together to SURVIVE.

Fred, they never mentioned eating the essential oils; I think they were using the oils topically.

If you can find any documentation where it states eating rosemary reduces antibiotic resistance, then we should provide a link here, and discuss it.

Since the study was done by the Department of Medical Microbiology and there are no test subjects mentioned at all i believe it is safe to assume that it was done in vitro against microbial infections.

The study doesn't have very much to do with any kind of "skin parasites" it is more directed at other types of infections, "The inhibition of QS may reduce pathogenicity, antibiotic resistance and biofilm formation in systemic and local infections."

The biofilms are a tool used by pleomorphic pathogenic infections that allow them to evade treatment.

What is very noteworthy about the study is that the majority of the sufferers on the scabies forum have these types of pathogenic infections instead of " skin parasites" and don't realize it because of symptom similarities.

The oils are very powerful and can be dangerous to ingest but I don't see why a tincture with the same active components wouldn't work and at the same time be safe.

Cinnamon is very powerful against these types of infections, it is said to be the bomb in ridding intracellular infections . I think you could mix a cinnamon tincture and a rosemary tincture and get the same results.

I wouldn't advise to take essential oils internally although some do cut them with olive oil but you can burn your insides with them.

You use almond, avocado, cedarwood, citral, clove, eucalyptus, geranium, grapeseed, jojoba, karanja, lavender, lemongrass, manuka, neem, olive, orange, oregano, peppermint, pine, rosemary, tea tree, thyme, or other snake oils?
They help? But they don't cure? Do you want help for years or do you want to achiece a cure, hmm? Throw away all those nasty oils because they do not cure anything and anyone! Just scabicides will cure you! That's science, not quackery!
