I have treated 3 times for scabies with permethrin (6/10, 6/14 & 6/21). I do not want to treat again topically (unless absolutely necessary), and was wondering if there was anything i should be taking by mouth (just so that I feel like I'm doing SOMETHING to help prevent reinfestation). Multivitamins? I've also read about Neem, but can this be taken orally? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yes yThe only oral meds I know of is Ivermectin and you can take Neem orally. You don't need it yet.. Just do your cleaning ect.. That's all you can do is to hang back and wait..

Thanks for the reply. So you don't think Neem capsules would do any good at this point? I can't stand the waiting, but I guess I better get used to it. I am trying to go a full 30 days before freaking out and retreating.

I can't say it does not work...I never experimented with it.. If you look for preventive maintainence I would pick up some sulfer soap and shower with that daily. I'm assuming that you are young and that your immune system will help fight this.. Hey Peachy you are a nurse you should know more than me!! HA.. lol

I work on a cardiac unit-- mostly elderly patients with heart problems. I have absolutely no experience with scabies!! I'm assuming I must have gotten it from a patient. The only other thing I can think of is that I got it when I had a pedicure...the bites started on my ankles and moved up. hmmmm. Might go to the natural food store and see if they have neem and sulfur.

I have no idea. I bet it was medication/drug related though. Pain meds alone wouldn't do it (unless it was an OD), but who knows what else he was taking. Or maybe he just had a bad heart, ya never know- one big MI can do it.

Peachy,
Pedicure is highly likely.
Please report the shop to the state board of cosmetology. There was a huge crackdown on pedicure footspas when hundreds of women in calif got foot disease from one shop. They must disinfect with bleach after every customer but that is a huge hassle.
After reading about that I would never ever get a pedicure at a public salon. I'm a cosmetologist.

Ps I don't understand why the wait inbetween treating. Just don't get that. Perm is practically useless in my opinion, and toxic.

Sulfer topical daily pomado de azufre, ivermectin horsepaste daily or magicpharma.com internal, cedarcide spray daily or fog environment nontoxic, windex and borax for mopping, borax for laundry, dry 2 timed hours laundry on super hot hot hot dryer and doublebag immediately no touching anything, no folding.

Ps in the I'm cured thread the head derm with 30 yrs scabies experience said wipe your feet with baby wipes many times a day. Cover carpet furniture wood with plastic. Uncover after 6 weeks symptom free one at a time. Take ivermectin. You can get mites from pets for sure. Read that thread...I'm typing on a cellphone apologies for being abrupt.

350zdude,
10 months?
August 7th 2008 I felt a bug crawling on top of my head. I ignored it.
A couple weeks later at work I realized with horror that 3 to 5 mites were racing all over my body.
A few days later I was sitting on the comode and noticed aprox 4 graceful delicate fanned bugs synchronized swandiving into my upper arm. I grabbed a razor and swiped.
Later, I was sitting at my new imac and I felt a vibration in my forearm. I looked down and a bug was going into or coming out of my skin.

I never had the itching you guys suffer with except for 2 years I have a spot on my right ankle that really itches. Also after doing 8 days of perm recently I got itchy rashes and bubbles which subsided with msm.

I think I had collembola, pigeon mites fleas lice and who knows what. I can feel mites that are not mine in public places like mcdonalds in walmart and the public library computers. I spray with best yet and now wear pomado de azufre daily and I don't pick up new mites.

No "scabies bumps". Still am itching a bit and having bumps/spots pop up that go away. My itching/bumps are definitely decreasing and not increasing though, so I think that's a good sign. Today will be the 13th day with no "scabies-like activity", and 6 days since I last treated with Perm. Keep your fingers crossed for me!!!

I was thinking you might be on your way.. Only thing is I hope you know where you got this from.. I would hate for you to go to work and some patient would give it back to you..

Do you think I could have gotten it from a salon pedicure??? That's the only other thing I can think of other than a patient at the hospital.

Well that depends.. I mean did you always go there? You would have to have constant exposure to someone that is infected with scabies. Basically would have have to be touching someone whether you get it from BF/GF and so on..

No, it was actually a salon recommended to me by a friend. The last 2 pedicures I got were from there (I don't plan on going back!!). There is skin-to-skin contact for about 30-40 minutes on feet and calves....and that is where my bumps started popping up first.
