I was recently diagnosed with scabies. My doctor prescribed a 60g tube of 5% Permethrin Cream. She told me to used it once and wash it off in 10 hrs. However, I'm not sure as to how much I should apply? Reading around it seems like I have to apply the whole tube or 1/2 a tube? I did one treatment like an hour ago but just used enough to rub it in all over... Help? How much do I use? thanks!

cglb1991. Use as much so that you cover your entire body, including scalp and face and neck. If this means that you have used the entire tube or 3/4 of a tube, then that is what it takes. Try to get a couple of refills on the permethrin as soon as possible, so that when the eggs hatch, and they will hatch in a few days, that you have enough permethrin to kill the immature mites which will turn into adults in about 10 to 14 days.
do one treatment every 7 days. you will feel itching, because of the dead debris under your skin, which causes a histamine reaction and a terrible itch. If you want to read some others threads here, then read the thread called Scabies is Highly Contagious. It has over 7,000 posts in it.

Okay so my family has just ran into this same issue and I've done a ton of reading on it. You can use it again, you use two treatments 7 days apart. You have to wait 14 days after the second treatment to use it again because this stuff is toxic and you can overdose on it. Also, you might try investing in some sulfur and lanolin soap, they will also die from the sulfur (don't worry this is actually good for your skin and especially good for acne). Treat everyone in your home with the permethrin and make sure you wash your clothing, bed linens, pretty much everything you can wash, and vacuum your carpets, even in your car. Sounds like a lot but these are body lice so it's the same thing as treating head lice, be vigilant! Good luck with it and take care :)

It really doesn't take much to cover you. You don't have to put so much that it runs off you. Just enough to rub into the skin. My doctor actuall said not to put in face and scalp. Just neck down. Also you can try borax and peroxide bath. And also scub with borax.

My doctor seemed extremely confident that I would be cured simply by applying this cream twice and washing my clothes and bedding. He was right – I was cured, but I didn't neither wash my clothes and bedding nor vacuum anything because I was too lazy! Shame, shame! Of course, I kept this a secret!*/ smile
