My daughter and I have been fighting some kind of black itchy specs on our skin. The dermatologist diagnosed me with scabies but everything I read says scabies don't leave black gritty spots on skin??? When I itch in a certain spot I can take alcohol and rub it really good and I usually find a black dot and fuzzy/hairy stuff that comes off on my hand but once we remove the dots the itching usually goes away? WTH is this? Is it scabies? I just took ivermectin & have to take again in a week. It did help and I don't have as many dots and stuff on my skin. My daughter & husband are using permethrin cream 5% & I have spot treated with it as well. My husband says he has pin prick sensations but no rash or itches but he also takes zyrtec daily for allergies. I thought maybe the spot was from a dead mite or something? Can anyone shed any lite, I'm so depressed!

Your very lucky to have a doctor prescribe Ivermectin for scabies. Use both, Permethrin too, head to toe if you have any scans or what looks like a small growth or wart developing.
Wash or bag all cloths and disinfect things immediately after every treatment. It may take more than two treatments and don't expect immediate relief for more than a half day after. It takes two weeks to start to feel normal.
Treat equally all house members same time. This is important. Most likely scabies.
I have it now and two growths on eye lids. Scabs on head. Symptomatic scratch marks and itching except when outside in cold. Eyes go red 2 hours after anti-bacterial eye drops. Mainly because of the small encrustations full of mites on eye lids. Am in UK now, but from Seattle. UK doctors (2) know nothing about Ivermectin or encrustations. Tried Permethrin on eye lids after scratching off both growths. Not working. Will fly out of UK to Prague where doctors are competent and not afraid to prescribe medicine over $3. Poor UK citizens - all I can say for them. At least I have the means to escape their disastrous health system.

yes you have scabies, they do leave black specks.
I read a lot of posts that talk about the mites and the eggs, but that isn't exactly what happens and you have to target the different stages, this from an entomology website after which i will outline a plan for success. you want to beat it? then read it.
"The life cycle of the mite occurs over 10-17 days. Newly mated females take an hour to burrow into the outer layer of skin and excavates a tunnel. The mite lays her 2-3 eggs each day. Each tunnel contains only one female, her eggs and feces. After 48 hours the eggs hatch and the larval stages mite dig their way to the surface of the skin, where they immediately burrow. This burrow may only be a short distance into the skin to moult to the next stage. Larval and nymphal stages remain in these moulting pockets before moulting to the adult stage. Newly moulted male and female mites construct short burrows <1mm before mating.
After fertilization, female mites wander on the skin to seek a suitable site for a permanent burrow, the transfer of a female to another host at this stage will initiate a new infection. Female mites rarely leave their burrows, and if removed by scratching and remain undamaged, they will attempt to burrow again. During an infection the number of mites increases rapidly, then drops off, leaving infected persons with a relatively stable mite population of 15-20 females."
O.K. here is what works, target the female mites with Ivermectin, they are the deepest ones.
I had good luck with www.drugsmonster.com , buy enough so that you don't cut yourself short . You will be starting a regimen when it arrives. I dosed at 280mcg/Kg which is a little higher than the 200/kg but well within safety range, i weigh 170lbs and took 21 mgs. Take Ivermectin on day 1,2,4,7,14,21,28.on an empty stomach when you get up. If you feel something crawling it's a female because the nymphs are too small and don't go far until they are mature.
Until the ivermectin arrives keep up with the baths and spot treating, you want to keep the population down.
For the nymphs take a hot bath every morning with tea tree oil ,$8 for 2oz at walmart, buy a few bottles. if you put straight tea tree oil in your bath it will float on top and get on your skin straight when you get in , it's strong so I mixed equal parts of dawn antibacterial dishwashing liquid and stir it up then add to hot water 1/4 oz tt and 1/4 oz dawn, it works really well.
Stay in the tub for an hour , I freshened the hot water and added more tea tree during. Loofa and scrub your skin to get at the nymphs and kill whatever it gets to and relieve a lot of itching from the debris left in the skin. If you get the"alba" exfoliating body wash and use a back brush before the bath it'll help. Check the tub after it drained and you can see the dead mites.
After your bath wait about 15 min and these suckers will start to run because you've woken up the young females and they are making a break for it. Apply a topical scabicide at this point all over your body including scalp. Here is what I used. benzyl benzoate mixed with tea tree oil and clove oil. Sardex is available from amazon cheapest it is 29% benzyl benzoate, it comes in a spray can and i had no problem spraying it into a glass measuring cup. 4 parts sardex , 1 part tea tree oil 1 part clove oil. Rub it all over and don’t get it in your eyes. It might sting a bit which means it’s hitting the bullseye.
Spot treat any time you feel crawling or biting , you must kill all females.
I also used Nix with 1% permethrin every day at bedtime all over , I know the Elimite is 5% but that’s because it’s designed to get at the deep burrowed females and you are killing them with Iver, it will kill any night time adventurers and it is a lot less toxic than the 5%. Available at your grocery store, 2 bottles for $15 and 1 bottle coats before bed.

Clean your environment but realize that they are coming out of you.
This works, Good luck!

Can,anyone please help me I am so depressed . For three years I,have had askin conditions which 5 doctors have said is not scabies. I itch all, over and, have crawling sensation , with a pinprick sensation at times. Ian covered in spots that are quite large and they scab over and don't seem to heal. My face is,the worst. I have brown spots that look like freckles coming up onall over my body, except my face. I have lost most of my eyelashes and my hair,is falling, out.,I have gone, completely numb in my genital area and have,no sexual dive whatsoever.I am female, 49, and, live with my two, daughters who both say they,do,not feel, any skun sensations, thick am convinced one of them has the own spots but she says they're just, freckles. My other daughter has eczema which seems,to have flared up very badly in past three years, again, the doctors say there is no sign of scabies. Another thing that has happened to me is my fingernails have, become very thick, as have my toenails, but I think I could possibly have a fungal infection in my toenails. I am so,scared of causing,a massive epidemic of whatever thus is, and I cant sleep or,eat. Can anyone, please offer any advice? As I said it's even three years. As I type I can feel my hands and ripples prickling . I am so scared. Also,my facial, appearance seems,to have changed beyond all recognition. I look like,a monster. Please help.

Just,to add to my,previous comment, I am very ashamed to say that in the, last three, years , due,to my severe depression, I have not been, very good at all at taking, care,of my,environment or my personal hygiene . If I did have scabies, would it be caused by these factors? And also,, how in earth would,I ever, get rid of it when everything around me is not very sanitary? Also,as I am,so,worried about being responsible for a huge outbreak, would I be,in trouble with, the law? I am un UK. I just am praying it is not scabies, and in three, years noone else seem,to have gotten it. Can someone please offer me,some advice?

Hi. I'm very sorry you're having such a hard time. I definitely understand how major depression can drag one down, and sometimes you just don't have the motivation to deal with your normal daily routine.

It sounds like you might not be drinking enough water as I often have dark colored urine when I drink only tea or sodas. Sometimes I will get a bladder or kidney infection from not staying hydrated. You should see a doctor for a urinalysis just in case. I don't know for sure if that's related to scabies, but I don't think so (unless you have a secondary infection caused by whatever is causing you to break out).

Have your doctors done a skin scraping? If that many doctors say it's not scabies, you may have some other type of mite. From what I have read, your environment won't cause scabies, but if you get scabies, it's important to clean your surroundings.

I'm sorry I'm not much help. I just wanted you to know that you're not alone. Please see another doctor. I wish you the best.

You're more than welcome. I also worry about spreading whatever I have. So much so that I do not want to go to the grocery store or the Laundromat, but don't worry about breaking the law. I don't think you'd be charged for accidentally infecting someone else. You can't stay housebound forever.

Please post to let us know how you're doing. I hope you're feeling better soon.

The perm can cause you to itch more so if you don't have any bumps or rashes I'd just wait and see If I was you. I know it's easier said than done, I'm going on 3 months with this crap, I have a confirmed case via scraping. Right now you don't knwo for sure if it's even scabies so just take a deep breath and try to be optimistic.

I'm not sure, I know they can check you in the ER for it. If I was in the position where I couldnt treat daily then I think I would buy some sulfer ointment cover head to toe and leave it on without washing. Walmart sell sulfer ointment called de la Cruz , for like under $6.
