Do any knows if the bug is still at the site of the bite (bump). And can I just put a little dab (permethrin) at the site where I was just bit.. because I did the whole body thing last night.I don't won't to over do it with the cream. But I am still seeing bites and burrows.

You can use permethrin cream once a week safely.
I do not know if it is safe to use it more often; I have read of serious (crusted) scabies cases where it was prescribed every 3 or 4 days over a couple of weeks.
Over time, mites can develop resistence to permethrin. So, I wouldn't want to use it more often than needed. It can gradually become less effective.
Be sure when you use permethrin cream that you apply from the top of the head to the soles of the feet, including face, outside of ears, etec.
You have to wash your laundry in very hot water, dry on hotest setting of dryer. Change sheets daily.
Read some more on this board, especially about ridding your environment, clothing, car, etc. of the mites.
I've applied the 5% permethrin twice now, one week apart. I was told to apply from neck down. Now I've got them on my face and scalp. No more itchy feelings on body. But boy is it much worse feeling them crawling on your face and head. I should of listened to comments saying to put on face/head to toe. So I've been spraying listerine on my face at night so I can sleep. It seems to work. And has also taken away the dryness. I'm scared to do just a lice treatment cuz I don't know if by doing that they'll travel back down to my body. So wish me luck this weekend I'm going to do a live treatment and another application of the permethrin. Along with CLEANING EVERYTHING again!!

The scabies do not become resistant to permethrin 5%. If it isn't working, you are somehow re-infesting yourself. It seems like you won't get rid of them but if you keep up your cleaning regimine and keep with the permethrin, they will slowly but surely dwindle off.

Why are people saying it's ok to use this cream more than directed?

It's NOT.

Sure, maybe you have done it and nothing happened. But just know that if you are thinking about using it more than once within 7 days - it CAN cause long lasting skin problems that can be just as bad as scabies.

Be careful when using and follow the directions to be safe, IMHO.

I will do so.
I felt much better this week. I wasn't itchy at all!
thank you everyone for all the tips - I am too becoming a germ freak I think - I haven't washed the bedding yet as I am using the Permethrin Cream tonight but tomorrow it is wash wash wash. I wish I could get a new bed but cannot. I have a memory foam topper and in the trash it goes. I also took an oral medication the other day and can see a huge difference, but I too have that "crawling feeling" LOL - probably just mental - and THANKS for the tip on the shower curtain! Never would have thought of that!

Hi ...I just seem to have these symptoms on my face and forehead....I hope I can manage that and rid myself of the tourterous mites...I have a few red patches and have had the incredible itchy feeling..
I opted to get 5% permethrin and applied to my face and then read another article not to do this and now am paranoid after reading even more horrific imformation about the cream....scary and might work but then you drive yourself nuts with the possible side affects...What does one do and does anyone think that just a small amount and didn't cover my body would have much of an affect...am seriously put off with the information that have just read !

Spot treatments do not work. You will cause them to spread. You are making a mistake.

If you are worried about permethrin, use a different treatment.

Your symptoms must not be too bad.

@Tony, I was PARANOID and did the treatment 9 times(paranoid that i still had them and got reinfested), although i'm sure at the end i only had it once, but at least 7 times i've applied it to my face and scalp, no side effects for me, and this was over a year ago, i have psoriasis on my scalp and it made no difference in severity of it. Do the treatment twice, do all you're cleaning and live your life!...and stay off forums...they will drive your paranoia even more, believe me! 5% does work, u will still be itchy for a good month after...:)

I been itching for about a month n a half, aparently one of my friends got it and spread to me n another friend, we did the vacuming, washing and changing of bedding and clothing, and before the use of the cream(5%) for about a week i would use alcohol all over my body, i did the cream 2 days ago, i feel way less itchy, sum annoyin itching still occurs, and my skin feels tingley on and off during the day, i left it on for 14 hours, i used a 60gram tube completely in one aplication, evenly on my whole body, crests under nails between fingers toes feet plant etc, is it ok if i rub alcohol all over my body once in a while? Im also sprayin alcohol over my bed sheets which i change out everynite, wuld that help get rid of these bastards quicker? I havnt felt them crawling around or boroughin, jus an itch here and there plus my paranoia which im sure creates a mental itch, any input is much apreciated, no bastard replys, thanx

Yes you can put permethin on your sheets if you want, you might be better off buying concentrated permethin for plants or animals and mixing it yourself and spraying it.

I started noticing bumps between my fingers that itched and also my wrist it quickly spread to my forearms then thighes then my penis! I was afraid to go to the dr. because I thought I had an std. I went about 2 months without seeing a Dr and the condition got worse so I finally went. I got diagnosed with scabies instantly and got the 5% cream. I rubbed it all Over my body and left it On for about 10hours..I felt way less itchy but still notice bumps everywhere how long does it take for them to go away? Specifically the penis?

We're battling scabies & after treating with the lotion, washing laundry in hot water and bombing the entire house, garage and cars I believe I've noticed new spots on my 12 year old. Has anyone had reoccurrences immediately after properly using the 5% permethrin? He had 2 treatments in less than 24 hours because he was the most affected and so uncomfortable. Also, I've seen post about Kleen??___ spray. Did this work and what is the referenced mite spray? Is this a homemade mixture or purchasable?

Thanks for all help. I'm keeping him home from school for fear of spreading this even though the dr said he could go back the very next day after treatment. The same dr also gave us a script for the wrong (over the counter 1% instead of prescription 5%) medication until I argued and she looked it up, apologized and re-wrote the script.

There is so much misinformation even among the physicians! Very frustrating
