I also was recently diagnosed with scabies after suffering from it for several months. I was treated with permethrin 5%cream a little over 3 weeks ago and given prednisone to help the itching subside...the steroid has helped with swelling and alot of the itching but I still am experiencing itching around my neck back and chest...I will have to go back to the dermatologist fr re-evaluation. Thhis has been very frustrating for me. I am heading into my thrid trimester of pregnancy and want this problem gone before my baby arrives. I don't really know what else to do...I have followed all the doctors orders very specifically and yet my gut feeling is that the treatments have failed.

Thats how I feel too.. I did the treatment one year ago and I thought I was done with scabies. Apparently not.. Now I'm on my second treatment and I am still itchy. I don't want to infect all my friends, family or my partner..

I'm supposed to start a new job what if I spread it?
It's very depressing.

Y'know what, before I went to the doctor I put tea tree oil on one itchy spot and it killed the itch immediately (just IMO) Then just now I ran across a tea tree oil site that claims it will kill these mites so I'm gonna try ir full body for a while (and maybe laundry) and see if it helps.

Good luck folks, this really sucks!

Man, don't say that. What a nightmare (seriously Stephen King should write a story)
Permethrin didn't work.
The doctors office won't deal with it anymore and who can blame them?
I'm still trying the tea tree oil and chanced upon EUCALYPTUS OIL which at least helps the itch better than anything so far.
Don't know if all this stuff is toxic but I'm pretty desperate.
Good luck folks,
If anyone figures it out can you share?
Thanks

my boyfriend was staying at his cousins house.. he came back and he was itching the heck outta his hands, they had little bumps all over them between his fingers. I told him.. ewww I think you have cootie bugs!! he said no i dont! but i took him to the most reputable hospital walk in clinic in the city...the doctor told him it was eczema and gave him some steroid cream, and that it was from stress, and I WAS PROBABLY STRESSING HIM! well.. about 2 weeks later i started itching all over my ass..and then started getting the same freakin bumps he did on his hands and between his fingers... I wanted to go curse the doctor out.. i went to my physican who told me i had scabies. I have been washing everything in hot water and borax and bleach. I think my sofa is literally infested tho i vaccuum and spray it with lice bedding spray, i am going to toss it. The other person living with us, hasn't seem to got it. But i did put on that elimite cream 2 times and it still hasnt gone away. I am getting freakin frustrated cuz i have like some sores from some of them itching so much and it is making my skin get infected in certain areas. I read about neem oil and neem cream that they sell at local health food type stores so i tried it, it seems to relieve the itching but i know they havent gone away, i keep bathing and bathing in all kind of home remedies and it doesnt freaking work. what really pisses me off is that i told my boyfriend , if he doesnt treat himself at the same time as me, and maybe even the other person in the house, we will just keep reinfecting each other, he didnt freaking believe me, and now i feel like its all over the darn house! i am in the middle of redoing my house and he is back home visiting family out of town. i dont want him even coming back to spread the buggies all over my new carpet and furniture, if i do get rid of them. I am ready to just make everyone douse theirselves in cream, stay in a hotel..shower and toss our clothes in a plastic bag and huck them in a dumpster while having the darn pest control come fumigate. I am so annoyed, and itchy as heck! i never had scabies before so i am really mad at my boyfriend, i would much rather have gotten freakin crabs or something easier to get rid of...JEESH

I'm also frustrasted as hell with this scabies I caught from my grandma when she got infested at the hospital. I've done the permithrin 5% treatment twice alreaday and it hasn't seemed to work, I have no more clean clothes towels or blankets as I've been putting everything in plastic bags. I have been sleeeping in the livingroom in an inflatable mattress while the mattress in my bedroom stays untouched due to me spraying it with black flag and what makes things worse is that I think I gave it to my cat so my entire one bedroom apartment seems to be infested. I will take my cat to the vet and almost feel like taking his medication as well. I have been avoiding friends and family so I dont infect them and it's really depressing and annoying. I'll see what happens.

Don't bother taking your cat to the vet. Cat's can neither give nor recieve the mites.

Scabies from hell,

If you scratch open a blister you can put peroxide on it over and over to help with infection.
Even if it doesn't look like a bad scratch at first you can see the bad bacteria when you put the peroxide on it so you know that stuff is bad.

Your boyfriends family may not be too happy with him either in about six weeks.

Good luck!

To all of you frustrated people. This is just a suggestion. Find a doctor who will prescribe Ivermectin. It's the same medication the vets use to treat scarcoptic mange(same as scabies)in animals. We humans are animals too and it works just as well on us. Ivermectin is off label (not FDA approved for treatment of scabies)but has been used for years to treat scabies in humans and is very effective in hard to treat cases. The mite that causes scabies and mange seems to be resistant to the topical creams. I know how you all feel when you don't get the help you need from your doctors. Google Ivermectin and see for yourself. Print out the info and show it to your doctor. Take charge. Good luck finding a doctor who can help you get rid of the immortal mighty mite.
The mite is resistant to the topical creams. Just as the mite will pass from person to person, you can get the mite from your pets and pets can get them from you. Think about it. The mites just need a host and once they have one they stay until they are killed. Wash everything in hot water, bleach and borax and dry for over 1 hour in a hot dryer, including your shoes.

Yes, take your cat to the vet for Ivermectin injections. If you don't treat your cat, you can be reinfested. Read my comments too.

Im going on 3 years now....I have done everything down to the T. I ordered that tea tree oil shit and used it every day for three weeks and it worked less than the elimite. If anyone has gotten rid of this successfully please email me at seanl251@yahoo.com and so you know that is an L after sean. I feel for every one. I spread it to my girl and now we are fighting it together, but it seems as if there is no hope.

I am educated Genius. Pets cannot contract the scabies mites. They can however contract a similar form of mite that they can pass on to you which will cause itching and iritation, but is not permanent like the scabies mite. In this case the mites will die after a few days, while the scabies mites can reproduce and will not subside until treated. Do your homework

Thanks, I was told by 2 vets and 2 people that sell scabies product in the internet that YES I can pass the scabies to my cat and I have already schedulled an appt. for him plus he will stay in their boarding facility for one month just to be safe while I leave the house for 2 weeks and get treated. Hope that will work since I'm gonna try some new products that people swear by (Enzyme cleaner with peppermint and LiceRgone)will find the website and post it soon. And for all of you out there with scabies, tea tree oil only takes the itch away but doesn't kill the mites plus in some cases it causes severe burns to the skin like it did to me.
