So I have been meaning to post about my riddance of scabies for a good few months now but, as i'm sure you can imagine, the last thing I wanted to do was return to these forums to read MORE AND MORE about this nasty parasite.

I contracted scabies in early March of this year. What I thought was just a skin allergy quickly escalated into a full on attack from this mite. Before I knew it, I was signed off work, not leaving the house and coating myself in 5% permethrin treatments far too many times.

The most difficult thing I found about the whole scabies experience was the post-scabies phase. I was driving myself CRAZY for weeks and weeks after my treatments convincing myself that I was still living with these things in me.

My best advice for those suffering with this is to do the treatments required (e.g. 1 permethrin treatment and then 1 7 days after) and then WAIT. Time is the key thing here. A lot of these treatments prescribed will cause serious irritation to the skin anyway (they are pesticides after all...) and will often cause symptoms typical of scabies. For me, I was still itchy (even sometimes at night) and could constantly feel pin-pricking sensations all over my body. I made the mistake of doing about 3 or 4 permethrin treatments during the 7 day period and for a good 2 weeks after washing myself head to toe in sulfur soap. With all of this treatment to my skin I was still experiencing 'scabies' for weeks after. Until I gained the will power to stop using everything the symptoms stopped and the wounds begun to heal up. It is more than likely you don't have scabies anymore.

Also to keep your mind at rest, CLEAN YOUR BEDSHEETS (boil them) and VACUUM YOUR MATTRESS DAILY. Even if there were zero mites on the sheets or mattress, this process will help you feel better mentally.

Lastly, this forum is really helpful, I understand that, however there are SO many horror stories on here that'll just send you into a spiral of panic whenever you're feeling slightly more positive about the whole thing.

I'll be happy to answer any questions.

Dear anonymous. I truly want to believe this. I keep getting a prickly feeling then i look & instant scabies bites. I tried not treating but it nearly turned Norwegian. Its hard when your Dr thinks your crazy & won't help telling me i was giving myself scabies???? Iv got them on my back where i can't reach so if i was doing this to myself in my sleep or altered ego it would be strange indeed to want scabies for attention. Im disabled & get too much attention. One day Im desperate to do something extra about it & the next Im in denial. Perm messes with your head tho i know this. Im happy your free for the moment of this mite. One day i will be too & so will all of us. Thankyou for sharing.
