I have also found that Gold Bond has a good cream that is a "healing" cream- really thick, it stops the itching. I have found that hot areas of my body, or when my arm was in the sun while driving would set the itching off intensely!! I also get it bad around skin tags that I had previously, I guess that is the critters trying to escape my body!
I had one treatment, then a month later I had the same cream 4 nights in a row! Surely anything living must be dead by now!!
(Caught in a jail holding cell, then put back in the same cell for the 4 treatment days!!)

GRRRR!
Got the pics to my atty... She is going to have field day with that place!

I work at a drs office and contracted scabies from a patient. One night I couldn't sleep and I was waking up with 'itchy shocks' that kept waking me up from face to feet. I told the best doctor at my job and he immediately wrote me a rx for permetherin.
After 4 treatments and 2 weeks of laundry I was feeling better. Now, a month later, I'm itchy again out of no where! I believe it's post scabies. I showed the same dr at work my skin, he told me to try Aquaphor ointment. It helps to relieve dry skin. This is quite a brutal winter, so I really hope that it's only dry skin and not reinfestation.
I just showered and applied the ointment and I do feel more calm with little itches here and there- sometimes intense, sometimes subtle.
My boyfriend had scabies the same time I did, we sleep in the same bed every night and he's not itchy... I think I'm just a little more sensitive.
Fingers crossed that I'm not reinfested! Good luck everyone!!

The anti fungal does make things better. However I am convinced that any types of skin irritation heighten our senses, with our very leathery and overly sensitive skin. If clothes make you itch, change them. Sleep naked. And instead of scratching, moisturize or use calamine. And make a conscious effort to scratch only when it is unbearable and not out if habit. This is my 2 cents.

They sell Benadryl Lotion for the unbearable itch caused by a highly infested area of scabies mites, along with all the debris under the skin associated with these mites. The Benadryl Lotion takes away that horrible itchy feeling. Works like a charm.

Ok I had scabies, I never saw a dr but I had the same symptoms I saw and read online. I took the 5% cream and the next days my bites seemed to be gone, I had it bad on my abs and hands. It's been about a month n half I still itch bad at night and have minor bumps on arms and thighs. Is this normal? Also I had scabies for 3 months before getting treated, no one caught it. I thought its, highly contagious?

We did the permaicin cream twice and it didn't cure the mites. We read a post where we should try apple cider vinegar baths (2-3 cups in a tub of hot water) for three weeks. It was the best thing we read. We witnessed the mites first hand in the bath water and then knew what we were dealing with. Advice: thoroughly clean your bathtub (spotless) then fill it with hot water and add the 3 cups of apple cider vinegar. The mites will float in the water after about 15 minutes. Continue to clean, clean, and clean. We washed our bedding everyday and threw away our pillows and purchased cheap ones and then replaced them after two weeks. Each day we saw less scabies in the vinegar water. Stay committed to the process and do it for three weeks. Don't forget to vacuum and treat your car and work space. Wash and dry your coat and scarf frequently. It's a lot of work but necessary to getting cured, My husband still has post itching but he is clean as a whistle with all drill sites healed completely. It was the best post and best cure we could have found.

I was finally diagnosed with scabies at the end of December after months of itching and being told it was dermititis. I did 3 treatments with Permethrin, boil washing my sheets, pjs etc. The itching during this time was just indescribable, and the mental torment is hell as well. After the third treatment, and having also spent a fortune on special shower gel and baby moisturiser, the itching finally got less, the rashes started to disappear, about a week later the itching had all but gone apart from where the skin on my back had got so dry. This was towards the end of January. I now use sulphur soap every day (it´s a bit stinky) and the baby moisturiser (a bit difficult to apply to my back so I use a blunt knife). I find that if I don´t use the sulphur soap my back itches a bit but apart from that I think I´m cured - I still have a few spots on my arms and legs but I´m sure it´s not scabies.

I have to say I am paranoid about it coming back, I had it when I was a teenager as well and remember having to take Septrin tablets every day for months, I don´t know if it maybe lies dormant. I sincerely pity anyone suffering from it, but would recommend the sulphur soap, a lot of the forums I went on recommended it. I don´t know if it would have worked without the Permethrin though. I think I will probably use it for ever now!

i have battled scabie 2 times ..the first time i used the 5%perm creme. it works, but you often have to follow up with another treatment of the creme. i did not like the idea of putting harsh chemicals on my body (metalic taste in my mouth indicates poison, YUK!)so i followed up with a natural products of enzyme spray and oils, and it finally got rid of them after nearly a year of the poison bullsh*#t. the second time i went straight for the natural oils(won't say the name of the product as i don't want to be acussed of working for the company) and they were totally gone in 2 weeks...and i do have the 'after itch', so i would guess its from the scabies rash and not the perm cream. you have to be relentless in treatment!!! treating them just once, no matter what you use, just is not usually effective.that is why i chose the natural route...IT WORKS!!!!

I believe I'm suffering from Post Scabies also. Not sure how I got them in the first place, but I've been faithfully married 20 years. It's been 4 weeks since mine and my wife's last 1%Lindane treatment. we had 2, 1 week apart. She's totally healed. I've had my ups and downs. Last week I thought I was done only to have a outbreak on my biceps, both rib cages and thighs, that burned more than itch. That was 5 days ago and today things are turning around to the good again. The one thing is I don't wake up at night itchy, in fact I wake up in the morning feeling normal. During the day is when I start feeling the burn. I too am very paranoid about re-infestation. We sleep in the same bed and like I said she's fine. I think the key for me is my allergy pill and moisturizing. I have ver dry skin anyway and I know the lotions tend to dry you out. I quit both last week and BAM! The not knowing is messing with my mind. Keep up the dialog, so we can help each other get through this HELL!

I have treated myself with the cream twice a week apart, on Tuesday it will be two weeks since my last treatment. when I was diagnosed we were told that if my family dont have symptoms to not bother with treatment. I have a two year old and a 4month old. I am major paranoid my children will get it. after reading these postsi have come to the conclusion that only God can help rid you of them...I will keep you posted as my two year old has a rash on her back but its not itchy. I have no idea how I could have picked up these mites . keep praying, let go and let God!

3.5 months ago I spent some time with a guy who it turned out had scabies. I woke up one morning about a month later with 7 itchy spots on various parts of my body (elbow, torso, bellybutton, knees), and immediately freaked out. In the next few days, I got more and more spots on my body, but never the insane rash that I saw when googling scabies pictures. They definitely itched like mad though! I was at the dermatologist 4 days later. She said in her opinion the chance that I had scabies was "medium", but she decided to treat me regardless (she did a skin scraping but it was negative). I was prescribed two treatments of permethrin. The reason I'm sharing my story is because I spent night after night reading these message boards and completely FREAKING out! So here's what you need to know: whether I had scabies or not (based on the "medium" diagnosis), my symptoms got MUCH WORSE after permethrin. My skin itched everywhere, I got itchy spots with no warning. I had to take benadryl to get through the day and a double dose to sleep through the night. I carried cortisone cream with me everywhere and hoped no one would ask about the spots. I only wore long sleeve shirts and pants so no one would see my skin. I spent 5 weeks from my SECOND treatment experiencing this (so 6 weeks total). Symptoms would come and go. Then towards the end I got a ton of little itchy water blisters on my fingers and hands.(Once you pop them, they don't itch anymore and they go away). It has now been 2.5 months since my treatment, and I feel almost normal. The only thing I get is one water blister every week or so.

It's important for me to share this because I read all these posts about people treating and retreating and retreating -- you have to calm down!! For me the itching was insanely worse after treatment, and it was everything I had to ride it out. The itching for me lasted way longer than the doctor said it would after treatment, but I did NO ADDITIONAL TREATMENTS, and am now almost 100% clear. I didn't go insane with the cleaning -- I slept in a different room for a week and made sure to thoroughly wash all of my bedding and clothes.

It seems like everyone's experience is way different, so please know that it CAN get better. It was super depressing having to wait (I just came home and slept for a month and a half instead of being social), but I'm so thankful that I didn't go crazy with other treatments that could have made the irritation worse. I really feel like a lot of the trouble post scabies is based purely on skin irritation and sensitivity, not reinfection. Please just hang in there and don't go crazy reading about the worst case scenarios! I feel for you!

im in the same boat. only itchy now when I get really hot- insides of elbows and tops of thighs. POST began with large patches of bumpy pinky white rash spots (does not look like scabies) on my body- very similar to the scabies onset(sensitivity reaction). Glad its really dying down. The relief after 15 months of scabies bites!!!!!

I've had scabies 2 times before, but each experience was alittle bit different after i was cured. I'm now infected for a third time and now Ive been troubleshooting this problem.

1st time,I got it from a friend who recieved it from a contaminated Well. symptoms where, Sweaty hands, my body would Overheat Quickly(due to immune system overworking), and

I cured it by Getting ivermectin, and Lindane from Doctor. Hired a cheap Hot water Carpet cleaner from craigslist. gathered all clothes and Hot washed em and hot dryed em. as i returned home. the Carpet cleaner was done. i went to restroom. took shower, and pill, then i used lindane. I put ripped many plastic trash bags, and place em on the rooms carpet floor(ussing many) Covered with cream , I slept naked of the Bags. i threw away my futon and even put books and game consoles in tightly tied trash bags.
This took 2 times of this in order to finally rid them.

2nd time, by weird new roommate.not sure how she got em. I had been infected. in new apt. I took all furniture to Tile living room. and I bought a steam Rug doctor. Washed clothes, Hot Dried useing disposable PLastic gloves from walmart while handling my clothes(switching after cycles). then putting clothes in fresh trash bags.
Returnd home. put 2 grocery bags and tied em as shoes. while i used RUG DOCTOR, even on mattress. i bought a vynl zipperd mattress cover from walmart $4.59. I left mattress in room.Moped tile with bleach and Pinesol. Most of my small things where in trash bags all waiting outside. I got permethrin, applied, made makeshift underwear with grocery bags and slept on hard tile floor on top of layered paper towels and remaining roll as a pillow.

Slept. woke up after 12 hours and washed out with shower. i still need to go to work. so i got dressed and did. Using the Tile living room as My new room. I got mattress with vynl cover over of room while wearing grocery bag shoes, and place it in middle of tile living room. I slept on it then. I was itching, had crawling feeling all over especially on head and face.(doubting that treatment work, cussing at my doctor from time to time, cuz he would give me second treatment. new bloodspots appeared, zits, and mysquito bites made things confusing. after a month it went away. I returned to Room and was cured.

Now, like and idiot. 7 months later, i reinfected myslef accidently by leaving an infected shirt in livingroom closet. I took it out of closet, washed it with hot water with rest of clothes, but forgot to hot dry till fully dry. After i put shirt on and pants going out. when i came back and sat on chair. an intense biting was felt on back immensly, with crawling feeling all over. I attempted to repeat same treatment as before,

but now im retrying 3 times and getting very dry skin, and unable once again to tell if im reinfected or not. I still wonder exactly what kind of terrain can a scabi really survive on. did the dust from a board in my room reinfect me as i tried to clean it?
Cuz ill feel crawling all over again and slight pricks and bites maybe.

Hi: To get back to the original subject of post-scabies itch, I noticed that after I've rubbed in a lot of permethrin cream on certain areas where I needed to use a lot, I would later on feel a lot of tingling going on over a large the area around it, even when I had washed all the cream off. I mean, it feels like my nerve endings have been sensitized to perm cream and feels a little sore. It doesn't feel like a bunch of bites or itchy, but just like it aches slightly and tingles and has almost a "crawly" feeling. I felt the tingling last night on both legs after I applied diluted Advantix II all over in the morning. I ended up having to rinse some of the Advantix off my legs so I could get to sleep. I hope it will go away if I ever don't have to use it anymore (which I now doubt).

So maybe some people who are really in post-scabies condition are NOT really suffering from newly-hatched mites crawling around on or under your skin when they feel that weird tingling. It might be from using a lot of chemicals. Some of these medications are meant to kill bugs by working on their nervous systems, so they are probably working on our nerves, too. Not a good thought, but I'm NOT going to get scared and go back to the old "natural" remedies (Neem, tea tree, etc.) to try to kill these things, because I've tried them all, and they didn't work for me! I'll stick with the chemicals until they either kill the bugs or me.

Yes, permethrin is a toxin and advantix does contain more permethrin than the elimite cream and it will cause that tingling sensation on your skin. I would back off the permethrin and use something else, as you may be poisoning yourself. I've heard it suggested on here and other animal forums that they need to rotate their meds. permethrin is very poisonous and is not meant to be used day after day.

This is a good thread of post. But I still don't see any answers to the red bumps 3-7 days after the Permethrin cream was applied. Is that post scabies or not? Also. I found good information of scabies by looking at Wikipedia.

I have to word my treatment to count the days (3 or so) It is Wednesday morning now. I put my First treatment on Saturday night. Showered and then 2nd treatment Sunday morning. Washed all clothes on Sunday morning- including couch covers, pillow covers. Vacuumed the entire Apt.

I am extremely itchy right now under the arm pits is the worst and has been. My inner thighs are second worse.

Thank you all for the good info... except the person who put stuff about god and rats and animals. I will look into the ointments for dry skin and garlic seems to be a common thing all around the web that is relatively not a sells-man type answer. I am a field service engineer for MRI's so I am almost positive I got this nasty bugger from a site of mine. I work in many hospitals and off site imaging centers.

Does anyone know if www.scabies.org is just a sells-man's webpage. It seems like it is.
