Sam, I can not get diagnosed with it but I have it severely. I have been using a plastic outfit and gloves when I hold my six month old. My doctor will not give me anymore meds. What should I do? Help please.

Hi, wow for a year? Did the doc ever do a skin scraping and if so did they find mites or debris? How many tubes of perm did they give you and did it help at all? Doesn't really matter as lots of people have said the permethrin didn't really help after multiple tubes. And other people said they felt itching inside private areas too. I'm not sure if they actually inhabit that area or just crawl there.

Is this doc a dermatologist? If not see if they can recommend one for you. Although multiple derms told me I didn't have it then finally one did a scraping.

If you're sure it's scabies, and they won't give you any more meds, the only thing to do is order them online. Get as much permethrin and Ivermectin as you can afford, there are multiple sites to order from in the Ordering Links thread. Benzemul topical is good too, and the Benzyl Benzoate in the laundry, although some people just used the Borax, and were cured.

Urgent care centers are usually better at handing out the meds, so that's another place you can try. Hope this helps.

Scabies Since April,
What exactly makes you sure that what you have is scabies?
It sounds like you need to take some kind of action ASAP...

SSA,
I am not a doctor, however it sounds like you may have a fungal infection, as opposed to scabies.
When do you itch? Is it all the time? Do you have any discharge from the itching up inside? How old is your son?
If you do have a discharge, then my humble untrained opinion is that you may not have scabies, but a systemic fungal or bacterial infection instead.
In any case, if you are experiencing "up inside" itching, please make every effort to see a Doctor.
Don't forget to check in again and let us know how you are!

Sam, everytime they have done scrapings they have not found them....i think they are scraping the wrong places....also i have used about 12 tubes of permethrin and it does not work....i had ivermectin once and that really did make me itch more....so i think that works better....Sam, do you think my baby is safe as long as i wear the plastic around him?

April, if it's scabies, big kudos to you for not infecting your baby.

A one time dose of ivermectin isn't a cure, regardless of the literature out there, because the iver doesn't kill the eggs or immature mites. And some of us itch more and get a different kind of bumpy rash from the iver on about day 3 after taking it.

Where are your rashes? fingernails and privates, and where else? How long ago did you do the permethrin, and for multiple weeks in a row or every week, and how long did you leave it on, and do you have them in your hair? and how many milligrams of iver per body weight did you take, and did any of this help at all? And were you doing the cleaning and changing sheets, and all the other stuff you've read about in these posts?

If you can give us some more information, people will try to help. Scrapings between the fingers by a good dermatologist is the best place to find the mites. I've had derms do a "pretend" scraping, and come back to tell me I didn't have it. Do you have rashes? Do you have any warty looking nodules?

April, do you feel the crawlies all over you, or in bed at night, and the ticklies like tiny bugs crawling on you? I don't know if everyone feels these, but some of us do.

This sounds similar to ihatescabies story, she knew she had it but couldn't get a positive diagnosis. hey, ihs, can you provide input here? Been There is also a "picker" so maybe she can help with the experience of picking your nails.

A "pretend" scraping is where they just quickly swipe the area, or one doc had the blade at a 90 degree angle, and was just lightly wiping the area, instead of a 45 degree angle and really scraping skin off, a real scraping should draw blood (I read). I've had many docs pretend to do a scraping.

April has a 6 month old baby you guys, all input can help. ;) The doctors are not helping her. April, what did they say you had?

What really works, for most is a combination of ivermectin and a topical, either BB or permethrin, and serious cleaning to get all of them out of the environment.

Hi Since April,

The Permethrin you used, was an Rx 5% or OTC for lice? Did you have an Rx for the Ivermectin?

You mentioned a warty nodule. I had one on the top of my wrist. I thought it was a growth but it itched all the time. I didn't pick it off, I cut it off, it never came back. I am convinced it was a scabies crust. Be carefull with picking, it could cause a bacterial infection. Use a anti-biotic ointment or cream on your sores!

The Permethrin probably didn't work due to reinfestation. Did you use the permethrin on your scalp, face, around ears, etc?

Check the Ordering Links forum for BB by the gallon, premade BB, Permethrin 5% and Ivermectin.

or if possible get your MD to write another Rx for Ivermectin and Permethrin 5%, enough for at least 4 treatments every 7 days. you'll need more topicals to be used during and inbetween the treatments with Ivermectin.

Disclaimer: this is just my opinion and not to be taken as diagnosis or treatment advice.

It definitely sounds like you have scabies (and a dumb doctor). Sorry to hear you haven't been able to get rid of it. A lot of us went through the same thing, found this forum, and learned how to get rid of it. MKM gave you excellent advice.

Cleaning everything is very important, vacuum as much as you can, 1,2, 3 times a day. For a lot of us, the bugs just weren't killed with regular laundry, even in hot water and hot dryer. Some people used Borax also and that worked (kittycat). But others including me saw a big improvement using the Benzyl Benzoate in the wash. See the Ordering Links for where to order if you need it.

Ivermectin and permethrin, for multiple weeks, most people use one, then 3 days later the other, etc. Some use both at the same time. The vinyl covers for your mattress and pillow help too. Wipe them daily with bleach when you wash your bed sheets and blankets daily too.

Instead of permethrin 5% you could try the Benzemul Application, also in Ordering Links. If you use the permethrin, rub it in really good, and either use the Benzemul or the perm lotion in your scalp, rub that in good too.

Read as much as you can from the other links, some of the people have really good ideas on beating this.

I would start with going to a clinic or ER, don't tell them you have treated before, and see if you can score some quick meds, so you can get started quickly. Best of luck.
