This is my first post so I'd appreciate any input on my story from the old timers.

I had just left for tour as a traveling musician. The second day of tour we attended a wedding in rural arkansas, spent all day in the fields with lots of wild bugs. The next morning I woke up suddenly with about 15 small slightly itchy bumps between my fingers on one hand. I read on the internet that this was a sign of scabies, freaked out, and immediately booked an appointment with a dermatologist the next day. The dermatologist examined it with a UV light and said "this is not scabies". He prescribed my some topical steroid cream which I used a couple of times a day and eventually after about 10 days the bumps had almost totally healed. I would not say that they were ever incredibly itchy either. If I messed with them it would get mildly itchy, so I would apply the cream and be fine pretty much all day. I was pretty much able to resist scratching anyway.
2 1/2 weeks after the first bumps appeared, about 5 more showed up on the same hand. I also had one lone bump on the other hand. They were very small, slightly red, and raised to a point. I was very worried but at this point I was on the other side of the country with a week left of my trip to get home.
The bumps did not spread anywhere else, but I did have slightly itchy armpits (no bumps there, I also think this could have been from stress or being out on the road traveling in the hot summer).

I got home, and immediately decided to treat myself with Permethrin (the dermatologist had perscribed it for me the first time after I pestered him about it. He said that he did not think I needed it).
The night I got home I applied the Permethrin to my whole body as perscribed (no scalp though) and waited 12 hours to wash it off. I immediately washed all my clothes and dried on hot and was very careful to wear flipflops everywhere, not sit on the couch, barely touch anything, wash all my clothes and sheets daily on hot with borax and the arm and hammer stuff. I would not say though that I went on a total cleaning rampage. I cleaned behind myself well but I figured my house was probably not infected because I had been gone 25 days, and my roomates were fine. Neither of my bandmates that I shared van seats with every day for a month were affected either (still no signs now).

Well, immediately after using the Permethrin I started having the pinprick sensations. I'm pretty certain I was NOT having these before the Permethrin because I remember it being something I really noticed the next day after. I was, of course, worried, and I started using all the treatments on this board, including the arm and hammer baths at night with little change.

I started having random bumps crop up on my body. Maybe one here, another there, a couple an inch a part. They would be slightly itchy, red, and small when first appearing, then they would all fade and feel fine after just a couple of days. A lot of the time they would appear in places where my clothing touched or rubbed. I have always got body acne, and honestly these were hard to tell apart from regular pimples.

A week after my first permethrin treatment I went to another dermatologist. I quite liked him, he told me that I had probably had some type of "itch mite" but that my bumps did not look like those of the scabies bug. He prescribed me with eurax and told me to spot treat. He did not tell me to reuse the permethrin though.

A few days later I was going on vacation with my family and decided to use the permethrin again just in case. I left it on for 14 hours this time. Washed everything I was taking with me very carefully, then spent 4 days in a hotel room, came home about the same.

After getting home I decided to try Vann's treatment of Grapeseed Oil mixed with D Earth powder, applied all over the body after the shower. For a few days I thought I was getting much worse, but then realized it was the grapeseed oil/DE making me itchier.

SO, to finish up...

My only other strange symptom is I have also had little raised bumps in various places. These never come to a head, are regular skin colored, and just feel like a little raised area. These do not seem to be going away.

I stopped using the Grapeseed oil/DE treatments because I realized the DE was drying out my skin to the point of making me have MORE pinpricking than before. I had never been that good about moisturizing this whole time and decided to take a different approach and start slathering myself with plain neem/aloe lotion whenever possible.

I think that this moisturizing is helping a bit (and laying off the intense skin treaments), but essentially I am at the same place I have been since getting home and using my first Permethrin treatment.
I am having pinprick sensations all day, everywhere that I've treated with the Perm/baths. They are mostly pretty mild. I am slightly itchy in a couple of spots, which change daily. if I apply a little steroid cream, these are mostly fine. And I have the tiny raised bumps that don't seem to go away.

I am not kept up at night by itching (probably helps that I always take a long soak before bed). I do get slightly itchier/pinprickier if I get really sweaty (and when I let my skin dry out). I have also noticed some black specks which everyone seems to talk about on here, particularly between my fingers, but I'm wondering if partly those could be sticking to me from my environment since I'm applying sticky lotion a lot.(or maybe it's mite detritus that is working itself out?)

MY QUESTION IS, has anyone experienced these symptoms AFTER using Permethrin? I seemed to get worse after using it.(although I haven't had any more clusters on my hands). This also corresponded with my coming home though, so I guess it could be my environment...

I have just decided to spend a few days treating my skin delicately (while keeping up the cleaning) to see if I'm making myself worse through the aggressive treatments.

Thoughts? Thanks for reading my really long story.

I'm an old timer. So, here's my standard response. Well, I've done a search on this forum for ivermectin and here is the link to it. Please study this med and determine if you want to use it to get rid of your itch mite.

I had a fairly established case of "something," (my doctor said it looked like scabies, but didn't do the test) off and on for 6 months when I finally used the Premerthrin 5% last Wednesday, which immediately halted the insane itching. Then, just to be sure, I used it again last night. Two nights after the first tx I got a terrible case of sciatica, which if you have never had, you get pin pricky nerve sensations on your leg and foot. The sciatica has been horrible for 2 1/2 whole days now. I'm on crutches and strong pain meds.I n reading some of the side effects of Permerthrin, I noticed that nerve pain is one of them. Sciatica is nerve pain and I have some prickling going on. Hmmmmm. I hope you find a good solution soon. I know how maddening they are.

I dont think it is related to scabies or the perethrin. Just coincidence!

Thanks for the responses. Has anyone else experienced pinprick sensations AFTER using Permethrin and other treatments?(did not have them before)

I'm trying not to overtreat myself if I'm post-mites as my skin is getting super sensitive, but I also don't want to let up too early!

I'm am still not that itchy, but I have some random bumps that look like pimples and fade quickly.

permethrin does cause the tingling sensation, but it doesn't last for days. this sensation is different than actual mites burrowing into you and causing a "biting" feeling. just pay close attention to your body. don't let them get out of hand. you may be in post scabies and then you may not.

Ok, so i think its gone.(been there before tho=/) i still have the old bites, and the only time they itch really bad is when I am sweating. The worst is on my belt line, and that has been the problem area in the past. So my question, is that normal? Itching when sweating on old bite areas?

The heat and the moisture get the mites moving around, burrowing, etc., which causes itching. I don't know about post scabies, though. The debris left in the body also causes itching.

I too experienced the pin-prick sensation after dosing myself with Permethrin so you're not alone there. I experience the pin-pricks mostly in the tips of my fingers and toes.

I had mild case scabies - my boyfriend had it bad and I just had a few bites no burrows. I used the permethrin 5% and the next day had more bites and a pin prickling feeling which I didn't have before. I'm not too worried. It's a side affect

I did 5 perm treatments. I think it work. I am directly looking at a pinprick feeling toe right now and there is absolutely nothing there. Parasitosis and/or side effects. I have had the rash which is decreasing for over a month. I think we are all over medicating.

Its obviously a reaction to the permetherin cream plus the thought of invisible spidery mites gives you the creeps. Im sure a lot of us developed a bit of parasitosis after all THAT! bathing in diff cleaning products will give you a chemical reaction no dermatologist could diagnose. Its scary hearing people say they have had them more than ten months! 90% most Lilly have parasitosis which gives you skin pricking Im sure iv had it myself! I perked for 4was in a row. I ironed, even the couch & sat on a plastic chair
