Low sex drive? Testosterone gel could help -- or not

Pharmaceutical companies promote testosterone gel as an elixir for old men with low energy or low sex drive - but researchers at the University of Minnesota will put those claims to the test.

Another poorly written article on testosterone replacement therapy or TRT. TRT is only indicated when the blood level of testosterone is below normal. Testosterone is not prescribed for "anti-aging" for the most part....it is prescribed for a condition known as hypogonadism, which is defined as a blood level of testosterone below 300 ng/dl. The symptoms of hypogonadism are low sex drive, depressed mood, lack of energy, loss of strength.
Testosterone given to men who already have normal levels of it will not help them...but if they are hypogonadal, it will work if they give it a couple of months.

What about low sex drive in women, this is way more of a problem. Men typically love like sex, view it as a biological function and now have products like viagra. Women typically have all sorts of psychological and emotional issues about sex, what is WAY more needed is an aphrodisiac for women, why isn't this researched?

has the cure for all cancer been found? Every disease in the world that takes countless lives every second? Poverty been eliminated? Everyone is getting fed and the proper meals? All of the public services needed by those that really need it are funded so that monies are no longer the issue? etc, ect, ect..........

Being in the Central Time Zone I just woke up so if all of this happened over night and we are now able to fund trivial research items, please let me know. I haven't had time to catch up on the overnight news items.

I don't think the gel is meant to be applied onto the man's "equipment."

Just imagine the "picture" if this were the case and one line from the article bore out...

I have a low testosterone level, in addition to other glandular problems (including hypothyroidism and a malfunctioning pituitary). Testosterone replacement therapy, although expensive ($200+/month without insurance), has made a big difference in my life. I for one am thankful that it exists, but I don't see the use of it for men with normal testosterone levels. It could even inflate those levels above normal, and have detrimental health effects

It sounds to me like someone with a vested interest is looking for a new way to make a buck off their very expensive product before it goes off patent.
