Firs time Blogger~~~
I think I am going to get booted from my pain clinic today as I tested positive for morphine, which I didnt take.
Question ~ do they give you a months or so supply to get you through till you get into another pain clinic or should I just go straight to the methadone clinic..... I hate my PMC and want to leave anyway since they dont seem to care much about what they put in me or if im in pain.
Also, dont know if this matters, but I have never signed" a pain contract. Do they just go into effect automatically?
Thanks much!

Hi. I am a 38 year old woman from Texas. I have 2 herniated discs. One in my lower back and one in the middle. I delt with the pain for years. I was not in an accident or anything like that. I was overweight for 11 years and thought well once i lost the weight my back would feel better. Wrong!! After weight loss of 132 lbs it became worse.the spine doctor that i go to said that i dont have that cushion anymore and that is why i feel the pain from the discs more. we are gonna try physical therapy for 6 weeks and if that dont work then surgery. has anyone had big success with physical therapy? if so does it last or do you eventually have to go back every so many months? i also go to pain management and get pain meds. i was first given norco which eventually quit helping so i was given lorcet. when he gave me the lorcet he said lets go to lorcet and go up a pill which would make it 5 pills a day.well when i got to the pharmacy and picked up my pills there were only 120 pills. how am i suppose to take 5 a day and make them last 30 days. the nurses are actually the ones that fill out the scripts so i guess they didnt pay attention. anyway i ran out of the lorcet and started taking my norco because i had some left from the month before.i was given a drug test the last time i was in there. they send theirs off to a lab. my questions are if they can tell the difference between lorcet and norco? and if so, will it go against me even though the norco was mine anyway? please someone write be back and let me know. thanks alot!!

I am going to a pm doctor who so far has been pretty good. all of a sudden on my last four visits i hane been given urine drug screens. i only had a problem with one of them when i ran out of my hydro early so i tested negative.( i truly think that my little bro was stealing them, but if you tell them that it just sounds like and excuse,) I have an appointment in six days and i can almost guarantee you i will have a drug screen. i wil test negative for percs because i ran out early on a recent three week trip to Canada. not quite sure how, maybe some were taken, i don't know. on top of that i took a couple of ativan and xanax to help with the anxiety on planes trains and automobiles (don't laugh) i am not sure what to do about this. i really do take my meds as prescribed. should i come clean befoe the urine screen, or wait and see what the results yield? any advice would be appreciated.
Always come lean BEFORE the urine test. They will find out what you have taking anyway.
I made this mistake by not telling them that I was taking aderall. I hadn't taking it in 3 days but it showed up. I explained that I had a prescription but they said it still caused a "red Flag" because I didn't disclose first.
Anyway, they did call my doctor to confrim and now my pain doctor writes the script for adderall and percs. However, because of that "red flag" I am tested everytime I go. Sucks because it is 100.00 on top of my co pay

People beware, workers comp drs only have 1 thing in mind, how can they close your case cheaply as possible.. Mine started 11 years ago with a herniated disc, 14 drugs later and 7 years I can't remember due to being so drugged by my wc dr.. 7 years of random drug tests which I passed them all. Thanks to my insurance co which handeld my workers comp and personal ins and of course they screwed me by some dimwit at the ins co mixing both together and my personal dr of 20+ years dropped me and my wc dr dropped me. And of course my bottom feeding lawyer is about as useful as tits on a bull.{hes in s fl}. Does anyone feel like its worth moving to the NW for the medical pot?

Reading about all the frustration and outrage that people have had with their pain management doctors, I thought that that a look at the MD's point of view would be helpful. I am a board certified PM MD. I don't condone or condemn the actions of the other PM's, but passing along a little information may help shed a little light on what has happened to people who have had difficulty.
Urine drug screens are part of the standard treatment in most pain clinics. I understand how these tests can make you feel violated, but my license, my career and 14 years of medical education are on the line. The DEA holds ME responsible for managing the narcotics I prescribe. Making sure that the patients that I give these to are actually taking them and not selling them to high school kids falls on my shoulders. And the courts can be viscious. Physicians who prescribe narcotics for pain can get into a lot of trouble for doing the right thing by their patients. Check out:
http://www.aapsonline.org/painmanactionsagain...
We have to show that we have a mechanism for dealing with misuse of narcotics and a plan in place for dealing with narcotic misuse. All of us are walking a narrow line, and the price paid for being able to continue to prescribe these meds for my patients includes some rules and some urine testing. Believe it or not, we also find these tests unpleasant and embarassing. But I don't know another way to have safeguards to protect myself and the insure that the 99.9% of my patients who are not abusing can continue to be treated. If you think things are bad now, 20 years ago, chronic pain management with opiate narcotics was almost unheard of.
You are a condescending, judgmental assclown. May you experience chronic pain and disability for all of your days. Dismissed!

Ok the story is i'm 21 yrs. Old and a liwill flat out admit that I am an occasional user, although I have actually used it more frequently than normal after my surgery for reasons I will soon discuss. I was never once told I would be drug tested in such a manner, nor was I ever drug tested in the past( I have had 3 other back surgeries in the last 3 years). My main reason for usage of the drug was when I would run out of my pain meds and would not be able to get into see the pm for several days, the marijuana would help ease the pain and also would ease the slight withdrawal symptoms I would feel.
So he tells me that he cannot give me anymore refills until I pass a drug test, and said if I knew I would not be clean on that very day, I would have to come in within 7 days and take one or I would be dropped from their practice. This just flat out shocked me. I am not a heavy drug user and if I had known I would be tested for it, I simply would of never used it. The problem is not stopping the drug, the problem is that I know that it takes a month to get this out of your system, and I won't be clean within the time limit I was given. I know I made a mistake in using the drug, but I would figure they would at least cut me some slack and give me the maximum amount of time it takes to leave your system before making me take another test. Especially since my surgeon tells me it will be 1-2 months until I am recovered, I can't be without pain medication.
Now this morning I was able to get ahold of my doctor(the one who did the surgery) and he agreed to give me a refill of pain medication. I told him that going to the pm every other week in addition to physical therapy was too expensive, so I said I was going to stop the pm until I finished therapy, and the doc said ok, which is actually partly true, but I wasn't about to tell him I failed a drug test, I didn't want to be seen as a druggy. Apparently, the pm said nothing to him about what happened, and I would think if he did it would be a violation of my privacy right? However, I know eventually my doctor will ask me to go back to pm and there is no point in going back to my current pm doc because I will be dropped by the practice if I fail the drug test or they will not let me come back if I wait until after the time limit they set is over.
So I guess my question is, would the best move just be to find another pm doctor? If I did, would my old pm be allowed to tell him about my failed drug test? Or, as I said, would that be a violation of privacy? I am not going to smoke anymore just in case the new pm doctor decides to test me , but I just want to make sure this past incident isn't going to prevent me from getting pain medication refills from other pm doctors. Since I am nowhere near being out of the woods yet from this surgery and will need pain medication in the weeks to come. Any advice would be appreciated.

I have to go to a pain psychologist because my primary care said that i violated my pain contract. I have never failed a drug screen or anything on that contract. But when I had surgery, and my other doctors prescribed meds and i called the p/c office my physician never recieved 2 of the notes. Needless to say she was on medical leave due to a surgery so I had to leave all the messages with people that covered for her. When she got back the shit hit the fan and I have to see this pain psyc. to clear my name and keep my meds going. I also Have had 2 surgeries in 2 years on my feet that. My discs are screwed up and I have been diagnosed with RSD.

I never had the pleasure of being made aware that my past PM Doc had results that said anything other than what he made me believe would be permissable. Suddenly his office manager/Wife sent a lovely dismiss of service, now I learn a problem from 1999 is still not mended cervica disc fusion has never fused completely. Good work.

LiedTo: you are either stoned out of your mind on the pills your "booty-obsessed" PM doctor is giving you or startlingly retarded...Either way, best of luck to you! And if you DO switch practices, a word of advice: DONT repeat your theories to your new doctor, drop the victim mentality and just stick to the direct issues of where it hurts ;-)

Yes your pain past management doctor can and will tell the new doc abut the failed drug test. It is in the paperwork you sign when receiving Pm. Also, since you hve been kicked out,you will have to wait a while before being allowed to re enter another Pm. I know it sucks, but by law, they have a right to know what you are using, and since Marijuana is illegial you violated the contract.

Disabled from MVA wrote:
I am 47 and have been permanently diabled from injuried receved in a MVA over 10 years ago. I have seen several doctors in these years and they all have prescribed narcotic pain meds which do help me. I was recently given Levitra from my doctor because I had heard they give more sexual desire and performance. The doctor on the next visit said that the pain meds may be causing low testoterone levels and he said after blood work my levels were borderline to just a little low. He said in order to continue my meds I needed a intramuscular testostyerone shots and Andrgen patches. The doc said no bad side effects, so it was like a ultimatum! The shot made me very sick the next days and then I began having extreme restlessness, irritability, insomnia, and very hyper. I developed a URI and went to see anther doctor for a second opinion. The doctor foudn LEU in urine, gave me Cipro and Felxeril for the abdomen contractions. I went back to my regular doctor and he said he diodnt want to see me anymore and to find a new doctor. The other doctor did not prescribe me any narcotics, but my regular doctor said I should have came back to him, He about killed me ! Now I am looking for another doctor who will continue my pain management. I feel like I was rejected for getting second opinion. My regular doctor said I should have came in that morning, I went to their office and he doent get in until 12:30 and the new doctoir they had hired was in another town that day. So I went to my follow up visit with the second doctor. I feel I have not violated my contract nor was I doctor shopping, I receievd no pain meds from the second doctor and was just kicked out basically. I would appreciate some input into this situation as I feel I have been dropped for no good reason and will have a hard time finding another doctor to continue my medication management due to the DEA's war or pain med prescribing doctors. Please email me at stallard08@wmconnect.com with any help or suggesstions you might have.
I am so sorry you are going thru this. As for your Dr: He had not right to drop you lie a hot potatoe. Now,..the thing he might have had a problem with is the FLEXIRIL. It is a controlled substance. He did not have any right of accusing you of "Dr shopping"! I would check into getting legal council for charges against that Dr! I would not want to cont seeing a dr who is not sympathetic though. I am having trouble with my husbands Dr. We are now searching for a replacement Dr,..which I am not going into reasons why because I don;t have time to type it all... Basically being discriminated against by a fill-in Dr--assuming he sells his meds BUT we did not fund this out til we got the copies of his records! The pain Management Dr he is seeing now just laughed about it when we seen him the first time. We did not keep it a secret. I give my husband his meds MYSELF & WATCH HIM TAKE EVERY SINGLE ONE! That is what is so rediculous. We would not sell them for anything! My husband tried to stop COLD TURKEY because his dad was talking bad about him. So,..he did not tell me & he stopped taking it. He just so happened to be in Atlanta -just arrived at St Joseph's Hospital for his post -cancer screening when he basically went into heart/respiratory failure. Now he is scared to death to miss his meds. We almost lost him. He coded 3 times & was on a ventilator for a week. I pray you find a good caring Dr,..if you have not already... God bless!

I too am the victim of inaccurate lab results, I've been taking ativan for several years and they are saying my ua shows no ativan, consequently they abruptly took that away and told me that I can have one more month of Percocet and then no more. I take the ativan literally every single day usually 3 a day and now because of an inaccurate test I am being screwed out of both prescriptions. I have herniated discs and fibromyalgia, constant pain and arthritis, migraines. You name it!!!!
Have you gotten any info on why your urine would test negative... I am asking because a fill-in Dr for my husbands Re md, did 2 drug tests on him in one day. We did not know why he was acting funny until he was told he was being released. Did not know why til we got his records. That Dr wrote in there:"Note to Dr B: this pt is probably selling his drugs on the street. No Methadone showing in Urine.'. I was shocked!! I give my husband his meds EVERY DAY & WATCH him take them! He can not get thru a day without his pain meds. He has been on them for years. The new pain management Dr my husband just started seeing just laughed about it when we told him. This Dr is probably going to be good. He just makes him go once a week to pick up meds & sees him once a month. We will either have to get another MD to write his anxiety & depression meds or find another Dr to do all. This pm Dr wont write anything ecept pain meds. Praying you find a good Dr.

Get yourself a urinator from clear test. And if you have to get a clean person and get them to take a couple of your pills its gaurunteed!!!! It keeps urine warm and even gives you fake stuff that will be clean. Or you have to save a few give them to a non smoker and ask them to give you thier urine to put in the urinator its the pass off method but I can assure you, you will never have to worry about this again if you can come up with a person to do it for you, and the urinator. Now you can go to the main site which dont ship to certain states or you can to cleartest.com its the best 149.00 bucks a smoker with chronic and acute pain can spend! And this is in no way a spam you can try to find it at other sites if you prefer. But they did someone I know very well very well better than anyone, VERY VERY GOOD! The urinator is a true blessing. I would love to see one upgraded even. The whizzinator looks crude like a strap on i cant see it being effective, and would not spend money on it. But saying that i never known anyone to use it. BUT THE URINATOR IS GOD!!!!!!

I am a nurse that has worked in a pain management clinic. From experience I can tell you a couple of things RE your post. First, testing negative for opiates on your drug screen, especially more than once is a HUGE flag for PM doctors. They have heard every excuse in the book..."They were stolen, I don't know how I ran out, I dropped them in the toilet"...What it comes down to is this..Regardless of why you are out of your meds early the fact of the matter in their opinion is that you are not being responsible for your meds, which in turn reflects on their license. When a pattern evolves with non complient drug screens it is not worth it for them to risk their practice you you. I would recommend you take only what is prescribed, as prescribed. If you screwed up, come clean in the appt. with your doctor. They would much rather you be honest before they review your results of the drug screen. I know several of our patients who told our Dr. what happened knowing they'd fail their drug screen and the Dr. kept them around for coming clean.

Righto - change docs and always ask "Why?" when asked for a urine sample. I don't think they'd lie to you about the purpose thereof.

I live in the UK but use to like in the USA I am a chronic pain suffer and was treated like rubbish till i move abroad. Doctors refused to provide me with pain relief and what they did give me cost the world!

When I moved to the UK my pain management issues were taken care of. No pain contracts nothing in fact I have never heard of them till I found this forum!! My records were looked at, MRI's, CT Scans and injections were given. For about 3 years I lived on codeine tablets which did nothing then I was given pain patches (Butrans) 7 days patches which give me no side effects and I have no 'highs and lows' I don't understand why people are being told that they can not get their pain medication. I just ask for it and it's filled. I never understood the US health care system and their 'obsession' with people being addicted to pain medication. I understand that there are people who abuse the system but surely they could do a test when you first arrived and judge you case by case.

Patients should not suffer in chronic pain and patients likewise should not abuse illegal substances. Combining pot with Oxy is not a good plan. No wonder these doctors are asking for drug tests!

I have been a chronic pain suffer for 27 years and NEVER ONCE have I been asked to pee in a cup before I could get my scrips!! Many of you knock the UK's heath care system saying it's rubbish and that we are Orwellian but at the end of the day I am taken care of the problems that I have are looked into and investigated. I'm provided with the medication that I need to have a good quality of life that is relatively pain free at the moment.
