Yes, I have a problem with that as well. I live in Houston TX. I have chronic pain, and have two plates in my head, and my right eye socket is constructed of titanium mesh. The problem lies because I have head pain, and I have always been a migraine sufferer, and was prescribed MS Contin for pain. I was prescribed 2 X 100mg MS Contins a day. Shockingly enough after years of use NOT abuse I became physically addicted. I wanted to take care of the addiction because I don't like anything to dictate my life, but myself. I have now been taking Suboxone for over a year now, and have been in constant pain, and have been plagued with crippling migraines.
So, now I no longer take MS Contin, but I'm back at square one in just as much pain as ever. I have come to find out that Suboxone actually is known to trigger migraines in people who are prone to them. Also while I'm on Suboxone no other pain reliever will work including IB Proffen etc.
I would like to be on Methadone, but the only way I can seem to find to get it is through a Methadone Clinic. Are there Doctors that can prescribe Methadone other than SKID ROW STYLE CLINICS? I would love to have a Doctor that can take care of my issues on a 1 to 1 bases, and take advantage of the expensive insurance I have!
Thanks,
Thomas

I honestly dont know why there is so much hype about methadone, it's a very effective pain reliever and no more addictive than the other opiates. look for a pain mgmt specialist in your area.

Hi Thomas. My name is Neiko and I went to Methadone Clinics for 8 years before moving to a state where Methadone Clinics are only used for pain management and then there is only one that I know of 159 miles from me. After going off of methadone for 6 months and being virtually completely physically and psychologically destroyed, I found a local DR. who prescribes me methadone monthly. I have to go get my script once a month from his office and I need to see him every 3 to 6 months for evaluations. It worked for me because I just happen to be a stage 3C Cancer survivor on top of being opiate dependant. I got lucky.
LOL!!! However if you have good insurance one thing that I do know is that if you belong to a methadone clinic, at the end of every year you can get a printpout of all your prescription costs for your methadone and you will be reimbursed according to your insurance companies regular prescription reimbursement program. Usually most methadone clinics charge you an initial fee to get your blood drawn and to see the addictionologist who oversees the clinic etc. It is relatively ressonable and then you have a daily fee which includes your counselors fees and your methadone. There are different levels that one can aspire to at most clinics which lower the number of times you have to come to the clinic and the numer of visits you need to have with your counselor. Eventually I had to go once monthly. To do this you must have clean UAs, have regular attendance and be working on whatever issues be it pain management, addiction or whatever issues have led you to the clinic. If you have any questions you can PM me. Good-luck. Neiko

hi manda, if i were you i would try an actual methadone clinic and set up a slow steady weening or detox plan that will be comfortable to you.idk about the insurance though,it may not cover md clinics.good luck!

My Doctor put me on methadone 80 mil a day for opiate addiction therapy eight years ago. It saved my life. I had gone cold turkey off of the opiods and after eight months I was still withdrawing so we tried the methadone. He is no longer practicing medicine and The doctor who replaced him does not believe in methadone for replacement therapy. I have signed up at a methadone clinic but it is a two month wait.I live in a small town in northern Minnesota. There are many detox facilities but none that will take a methadone withdrawal. Tomorrow is my last day of medication. I have spent the last 12 days looking for help to no avail. I had a heart attack eight months ago and I.m afraid. Also I raise my 5 and 3 year old grandchildren which I probabley have to put with the state. I am angry at the whole methadone medical mess. Methadone is safer, cheaper, the list goes on. anyway if anyone knows of a doctor who prescibes methadone in the Duluth MN area I would be eternally grateful. Thanks Karen

I was addicted to pain pills starting in 1990 from a neck surgery. The doctors get you hooked then drop you.I have had 3 neck surgerys since then.I now take tramadol 50mg,Celexa 40mg and trazadone for sleep. I was addicted to everything. After I was off the narcotics I had what they call physcoscmatic pain, or put it another way the pain is all in your head. But if you can detox from all of it the tramadol will help alot it is a hard road especially when you have liver disease. I almost lost my husbund and my daughter due to drug dependency thats a huge wake up call. Still working on those relationships. I hope this might help someone

Methadone is a great drug for those that will never kick an opiate habit. It keeps them off the streets, and turns their lives into productive one's.

It's a terrible drug for those that haven't even tried to kick it yet, as it's the most addictive drug out there!

Methadone may or may not help with the disk pain. It won't help with sciatica though. Not at all ! The only thing I've found that does help, is strengthening the core muscles. That's done by exercising on a large ball, really more balancing than exercising. I don't know if that's possible for you with disk problems and you should talk to your doc before trying it.

Methadone should really be your last resort. It's very hard to get off of if you decide it's not for you and often causes more problems than it solves.

Good luck, I hope you find the right solution.

hi ashley..i haven't posted on topix in a long time but saw your story and had to reply..um methadone may not have helped abc's sciatica but it helped mine..helped all my pain actually..was the only medication that pretty much took it all way...but that was the beginning..over time things change..then as he said it does cause alot more problems than it helps..as for the sciatica i will say neurontin is the one and only drug that has done wonders for my leg..all my lumbar discs are pretty much shot..im 35 and yes its embarrassing..but also the abdominal excercises do help cause they increase the space between your discs by correcting muscle tone and posture..opening those disc spaces up will take alot of the pressure off those nerves to physically change what's going on..good luck..i know its tough..ive been off methadone for over 6 months..there are alot of things i miss about it as far as pain control but no person should just take it the rest of their life..you are too young to just 'COVER' up the pain unless u have already looked into every possible option..

..have you tried "waterwalking?". A truly easy and amazing thing, all that's needed is a deep water pool, lake or pond. Strap on,if need, a boucincy water belt and start walking in the water. It will decompress the spine realine the discs stregthen the core muscules, and ya get clean!! Been dealing with a "shot back" since 1988 and this is by far the best most fun workout ever to be done. http://www.livestrong.com/article/149583-low-... http://backandneck.about.com/od/exerciseandsp... Check your local YMCA and give it a try, also check with your primary white coat before stsrting any new work out...peace in the streets... http://youtu.be/Zh3WljFZVvk song is for, cause I like Annie is all...and music theraphy is another amazement!!!!

Roger, Have you tried the SAMHSA site? Google SAMHSA they have a Dr. finder and clinic finder. I understand about the cost involved in going to a clinic for daily dosing, unless you find a Dr. to evaluate your pain and prescribe medications to you there is not very many alternatives? Have you tried any other ways to treat your Pain ?
Wishing you the best, I am sure that others will come along who can give you better advice than I.

There was a Dr. that started me on Methadone after I Was diagnosed with Hepatitis C. The Augusta Sports & Medicine Clinic. Lately I've been on MS, but found Methadone to not only be cheap.$22.00 per 150, but truly a wonder drug. I sinply can't afford a clinic $8-$15 per day!!!

Unless you truly are Jane Eyre, bedridden and disfigured, I wouldnt get too comfortable taking methadone. Its a bad drug, and will eventually make you feel just like Janeyre.....

..yes mamm!! They have so many differant modes of water rehab, always check with your primary first,or pain management doc first. Least amount of pressure put on the body in the water, resistance is all on the person in the water. Water walking elongates the spine while realigning it,taking presure of them there discs!! Damm near ALL YMCA's now have some kind of water arobics program, get er done and have some fun!!!

thx eric..im gonna ask my pain dr about it wed when i go for my appt..the physical therapy i did was very intense..he didn't slowly work me up to anything.hell he worked me out like a personal trainer would..saying constantly he didn't want to hear any complaining..so i didn't complain..but that last traction session did something bad..i could tell right away..im suffering majorly from it still..feels like my spinal cord is being pulled..not just the regular sciatica i have had..something different..i just want some kind of help..other than a freaking pill if u know what i mean..cause even when i take something as needed i end up w/worse pain when it wears off..and then if i take it(lortab) a few times a day just for a few days i end up w/some rebound withdrawl symptoms when i stop taking it..doesn't make sense but guess its my body saying hey i remember those meds, don't stop taking em or maybe don't ever take em? i don't know..anyone ever had this happen after stopping methadone?

let me start by telling you I have been on methadone for 12 years and out of the 12 yrs. 10 of them have been clean however I developed Crohne's disease and now I have pain constantly if I try to detox so I thought I was stuck and that I would die on a methadone clinic. But as fate turns out I went to my primary care doc and gave him a letter from my clinic stating I have been clean for 10 yrs. That impressed him enough so I asked to be transferred to a pain clinic so I no longer have to go to that fuckin clinic anymore. So if anyone is in my position there is hope !

Oxys have been around since 95. Called hillbilly heroin here in the east. A lot of people in kentucky...a lot of coal miners were prescribed the drug and it became a epidemic. Payin 80 bucks a pill and a lot of ODs. Gov. Has passed laws causing even the methadone to be regulated....so good luck getting it from a doctor. U will have to go to pain management clinic. Methadone clinics are BS...they are ripping off the state with that BS...unless u find one that give pills. Plus methadpne is worse than heroin to detox off of.
Their all opiates....methadone just gets into your bones. I was in clinic for 3 years and lost al my teeth. Now I'm back to square one. Opiates in general cause more pain than u might actually have after years of use. Broke my neck when I was. 21 now 36 and still battling addiction. Hear gopd things about suboxon...just can't afford it. Good luck!4
