Hi my 12 year old daughter has been trying to get to grips with a twin block appliance to move her jaw. She says it is extremely painful, and 6 months in we have still not managed to keep the appliance in for more than 6 hours max. does anyone know of an alternative way to move her jaw other than surgery that we can try, or any suggestions as to how I can help her to tollerate it for longer. thanks

depends on whether her issue relates to the blicks being too high or to whether too much protrusion is being attempted at the first attempt
ask her orthodontist to
a) reduce the protrusive element of the TB...easily done by grinding the mesial aspect of the upper blocks
b)reduce the height of the blocks by grinding down the biting surface of the blocks
muscular pain is common in the first few weeks.
advise regular analgesia that she would normally take for a headache.
another problem can be social stigma...everything can be a "problem" if the child doesnt want to wear the blocks
hope this helps
good luck
