How can my new future retainers fix my bite that is off?

I got my brace off 8 years ago and wore retainers until recently I lost them.
Now my bite is not aligned properly. I lost my retainers that make my teeth shift. Just had an appointment with orthodontist and I will get new impressions to get new hawley retainers. There is one thing I cannot figure out how my new future retainers will fix my off bite to get my bite properly because the impressions will print my bite that is off. SO I do not see how impressions will give my new retainers to fix my bite to get it aligned.? Hope I explain okay.
Can anyone explain me how it works? Seems I do not know how retainers really work.
