The compensation offered for the miserable time those people had on the cruise is unaccecptable. I just got back from a Royal Caribbean trip on the Grandeur of the Sea, we had that same virus break out and the same offer. I spent 3 days sick and in isolation along with the people in my cabin. We were told we would be reimbursed, not prorated for our next cruise! I want at least 50% of my money back!

I was on the Grandeur of the Seas, as well. Both my husband and I were confined to quarters for 55 of the 110 hours of the cruise. They were even going to continue to charge us for bottled water delivered to our cabin by room service!
Being told after an experience like that that we would have a discount off our next cruise is a slap in the face. That is no compensation, but an excuse for them to take advantage of our illness to extract even more money from us. It's a brilliant move on their part, though. Their "compensation" won't cost them a dime. After all, who the heck would like to repeat *that* experience?

Sounds awful. But look on the bright side. The more people that know about this the fewer will sign up for the cruise.

My guess - is the food. They are serving BAD food... it's just a guess. NOT a true virus.

I just returned from the April 23rd sailing of Explorer of the Seas where my boyfriend contracted Norovirus and we were also confined to our cabin. Up until he was sick I was thrilled with the service. Once he became sick the guest relations desk would not return my calls, we were told the only food options were from the extrememly limited room service menu, and of that nothing was good for someone with a stomach virus. The only soup offered was spicy chicken potato...we also were charged about $50 over the 2 days for water to be delivered. I have not received my "compensation" in the mail yet but it looks like from what I'm reading it is pretty pathetic!

We just got back from a cruise on "Brillance of the Seas".(April 28th - May 11th) I became sick with the norovirus after on the 8th day of a 13 day cruise. The only medical treatment was an I.V. administered by a nurse. I was not seen by any doctor. It has now been 8 days since I came down with the virus and I am still not feeling well.(I am now home) I was told by my own doctor that I could expect it to be about 5 more days before I will be back to normal.
The ship was really dirty with soiled carpets and and dirty public areas. In our cabin, old candy wrappers were left under the bed from the last occupant and only the middle of the room was ever cleaned. Bed linens were not changed after I got sick and the room service menu was nothing I could eat, even if I had felt like eating.
The only compensation that was promised was two days off on the next cruise we would take with RC. I do not think that is enough since we had saved for this trip for 3 years and then I was not able to participate in any of the planned activities due to lack of sanitation on the ship. We are both in our 70s so we will probably not be able to try this again. I did not get to see Europe as hoped. I want my money back. Three days before the cruise was over I learned that over 100 passangers were ill. That does not count the crew. I have no idea how many total were sick. The ship needs a GOOD CLEANING and staff trained to wash their hands as well as the passangers.

Returned home from Bermuda via Celebrity Zenith and experienced all the previously mentioned signs and symptoms. Self-medicated with Imodium,PeptoBismal and clear liquids. Found out later through on-ship chatter that I was not the only one suffering; some had gone to the doctor and got quarantined...glad I didn't go that route!
FYI, my husband was perfectly fine, but does not eat fresh fruit (?the culprit?). Seems all who fell ill on ship got sick around the same time frame - Wednesday evening. Thursday the hand sanitizers and disinfectants came out in abundance.
We love to cruise, but certainly don't want to relive that experience ever again...especially in such close quarters. Appears my sanitation habits are not the culprits. Any suggestions out there???

Renee,

I was on the Repo sailing leaving Bayonne on Oct 21. Bleach was everywhere! Passengers were still getting sick - even the captain became ill and had to be taken off the ship! I don't know what was the cause. Celebrity kept things hush-hush. Anyone going to see the doctor was immediately quarantined. Just about the entire 5th deck was in quarantine. I was so glad to get off that ship!

My parents just came back from their five-day cruise with the Norwegian cruise line. They were quarantined to their room for two whole days when my father caught the virus. They weren't compensated in any real way, except for having a few small charges taken off. Apparently, on the previous cruise, the virus broke out, which is why the tried to sanitize everything as well as possible. I recommend avoiding Norwegian if you're planning on taking a cruise sometime.

My brother, who is in a wheelchair, and his son, took a father/son cruise - their first cruise together. Within 24 hours, both of them were in the bathroom for countless hours. They were later confined to their room for 48 hours, missed all but 5 hours in Bermuda. They were treated "like dogs" as my nephew described it. They were told they could be compensated on their next cruise, as if they will be one.... This is not over yet. They firmly believe it was the "old" food on the buffet. Their travel agent told them it was a virus that someone brought to the cruiseline - yeah, right. We weren't born yesterday. I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND A CRUISE WITH ROYAL CARIBBEAN. Trust me and trust all the others who will tell you. Researching this shows me where lots people are getting together with attornies and filing class action lawsuits. Step up to the plate and let's fight this!!!
