Apr 12, 2007 Full story: East Anglian Daily Times 32

“In health terms, C-diff is relatively new and clearly a lot of clinical research is needed to understand how it works. "As a result, nobody really knows how long outbreaks tend to last for, but we hope over the next few weeks to see an improvement.”

My studies of c-diff are on transmission. I have sold geratric bathing systems for over 30
years. I believe the central bathing areas of
long term care are a key infection area for transmission. WHY, because 85% of perple in that setting are incontinent and c-diff can only be spread through the fecal oral route.
Make sure your loved ones are using a containment shower of some type. NO TUB BATHS!!
or whirlpools. Check out this web site and read some studies and facts about c-diff. www

Hi ! I am sorry to hear of your mother's death as well as Norma's mom. I am a mom to an 18 year old son who has been quite upset/worried as to my almost dying..and this ongoing bout..I went on the air with the local ABC news WPLG local 10 with my GI doctor. I also wrote to the Dept of Health,Centers for Disease Control and numerous other health organizations. This was in addition to researhing C.Diff recent studies and since the Hospital never got me my records or followed up as to this INFECTIOUS VIRULENT & DEADLY STRAIN OF C.DIFF. apparently THEY were contacted by someone I contacted AND THEN the INFECTIOUS DISEASE CONTROL MANAGER finally called me to meet!!I met with her and the chief nursing manager and summarized what happened. As this is a highly infectious disease-my visitors were told upon leaving my ICU room to LEAVE their clothes OUTSIDE/GARAGE and wash really good!Research states that DUE TO COSTS-Hospitals HAVE NOT PROVIDED VISITORS WITH MASKS AND GOWNS OR ADVISE THEM WHEN ENTERING THE ROOM AS TO THE PRECAUTIONS OF CONTACT WITH THE C.DIFF. PATIENT.Let me also inform all-I had signed a release to get my medical records from NW REGIONAL HOSPITAL last Dec. 15, 2006-NEVER GOT THEM! WELL ONE DAY AFTER MY MEETING-THEY WERE READY FOR PICK UP-WHICH I TOLD THEM I WOULD NOT PAY FOR!!I ALSO WAS SHOCKED THAT WHEN I PICKED THE RECORDS UP 7/30/07 I WAS NOT PHOTOGRAPHED AT HOSPITAL ENTRY AS USUALLY DONE--AND MOST UPSETTING WAS I WAS HANDED MY RECORDS BY SOMEONE OTHER THAN THE PERSON WHO PHONED ME-AND I ASKED"WOULD YOU LIKE ME TO SIGN FOR THESE?" SHE SAID NO--AND HANDED ME A BOX VERY HEAVY--WITH 1,097 PAGES OF MEDICAL RECORDS!!WHAT IF IT WAS HANDED TO SOMEONE WHO SHOULD NOT BE PRIVVY TO "MY" HEALTH RECORDS--This is as upsetting as it gets!!I suggest you email your state health depts. CDC.gov ,and go to google and see my other postings. Read WEBMD,NEJM,and google C.Diff.It's very scary! Hope your doing well! I can send you links I found...as I have again been to doctors about 4 times since June!Jackie Cherlow- FLa

Hello, I have been googling like crazy to try and find some answers, and other people whom have experienced this awful disease. In May, my father was in The local ICU unit recovering from sepsis. He had a lobectomy performed two weeks earlier. After being released for the second time from the ICU unit, he was transfered to a nursing home for rehab. He was there for a total of 8 days when he started to have severe uncontrollable diarrhea. For 2 1/2 days the nurses just shrugged it off. Threw his "Dirty clothes" in a garbage bag on the floor. Finally on the 3rd day my brother insisted that he be taken to the ER. Needless to say less than 24 hours later, we moved him to Hospice. 12 hours later we were signing the death papers. This awful, deadly disease, was not treated as a problem. His nurses just wiped him and changed him. Left his Crappy clothes on the floor! If we would have just taken him home instead of trying to get him some rehab after surgery, He would probably still be alive today!

44 year old healthy female with recurring C Diff after a sinus infection. Was prescribed two rounds of "offending" antibiotics (those known to cause C diff). Not once did the doctors mention this as a possibility, and I had never even heard of this infection before. This is as ill as I ever want to be. I am very healthy otherwise and cry for those of you that are battling this along with other afflictions. My body is trying to fight it and it is slowly taking the life right out of me. I am on my first vancomycin "taper" with fingers crossed. False negative lab results are as dangerous as the actual disease in my opinion. www.cdiffsupport.com has been my lifeline through this, and as you well know most doctors will not even look you in the eye when you attempt to discuss it, or in my case..dismiss you as being "dramatic". I have no suggestions or advice, just well wishes to you all as we try and battle this beast.

I am a 26 year old female, I contracted C Diff after a course of antibiotics for a kidney infection (no hospital stay for that by the way) That was 7 long months ago. My doctors have tried me on countless rounds of flagyl and im on my 2nd round of vanco right now. the 1st round was for 28 days 4X day. this time it's for ten weeks starting at 4X day then going down every two weeks. but i feel no better, all the syptoms are still there. I've been in the hospital 4 times for this, but they don't do anything except iv antibiotics. I have two small children, and i'm just not myself anymore. i need advice, please. Are there any tests i should ask for like colonoscopy or anything, i don't know too much about this, except what i have time to read on internet. Any advice is welcome. thank you very much.

Happy New Year!Still I have recurrences and my stomach actually hurts. I am so FEARFUL of meds and hospitals I won't go even if I feel I should. If you are eating, what I have found is the plain food stays better. The hospital admitted to me and my docs confirmed that is where this C.Diff began. I am STILL NOT ME!!!!Tired, loading up with green tea and keeping my diet bland!I had a colonoscopy and it showd zip. My potassium and Magnesium levels are given me a problem. IN addition======= I LOST my job....likely because of all the tests and recurrences....but showed up anyway. I just called my Doc. as my stomach is SORE to the touch even! I hope we all do well---this is not what I had in mind! Hope all of you stay and get well!

BY the way everyone...contact the hopsital as well as the CDC, DOH, and other agencies. Then the hospital will be SURE to contact you. Still I have over 1300 pages and nothing has been done.

Heather---yes..have a doctor get you set for a colonoscopy. It may show blockages etc. I had one ...not a bad experience but they get to see any damage inside.

I agree..My dad had a stroke last August..He was doing pretty good, so the hospital transferred him to a rehab hospital.. While there, he got C-Diff.
Back to the hospital, back to Rehab, back to Hospital..After this, he was too weak to continue therapy, because of c-diff, so insurance would not longer cover the rehab or hospital..He had to go to a nursing home. While in the nursing home, he has contracted C-diff 4 times from October-May!
I was really upset at the nursing home this last time. No one informed us that he contracted it again the beginning of May...Our family has been visiting, and we did not know! Two weeks ago, I observed the aides working with my dad, moving him from the bed, to a hoist, and none of them wore gloves. This is really not a good thing!
About a week after my dad got the Cdiff, my daughter ended up in the
ER..She had extreme stomache pains, vomiting and lots of bowel movements. After 8 hours of stomache pains, I brought her to the ER.
Well, she was diagnosed with the Flu! Even I knew this was not the flu.
My daughter said the pain was like being in labor. They did not give the correct tests, and she was sent home after a few hours. Ended up going back to ER at 4AM...They diagnosed her as having gastroenteritis, but they did not do a bowel check. I think maybe she had c-diff, too..but, I AM NOT A DOCTOR!
All I know is that I am upset that my dad already has so many problems, and to get C-Diff more than 4 times a year is not a good thing. I just noticed today that his roommate was in bed, and did not look good. This was the first time in 6 months I have seen his roomate in bed in the afternoon!
After witnessing the aides working with my dad without gloves, and also the fact that I WAS NOT notified he had the disease again, really upsets me. Because, we probably were all infected during this time.
