so almost a year ago, i developed an abscess on my calf after getting poked by a thorn. in 24hrs i developed cellulitis and was diagnosis with mrsa septicemia. my leg was i&d, and recieved the usual antibiotic tx. the wound eventually healed, but my calf looks like it is caving in, and if i exercise more than 3 days a week, or put in extra hours at work, i get cellulitis. i can actually see the changes in my skin, and muscle where it looks like it is tunneled. i have chronic pain in the leg and getting tired of it. i am an active 37 year old woman. i am not surprised i developed mrsa, as i have been an rn since 1993, and a cna when i was still in high school. i would like to know if anybody else has had this problem? i have had doctors want to cut my leg open to "explore"..but i also have diabetes and do not heal fast..any suggestions? could i have a walled off abscess? should i leave well enough alone?

First,Debride and thouroughly clean the abscess area.Use povidine iodine and Staph creme(any you find at med supply.Get Bactroban from a doc to decolonize(in your nasal passages 3-5 times a day Then try clindomycin(script),bathing with Hibiclins completely top to bottomn frequently,
clean your sheets in hot water, soap, and bleach.
Maintain excellent personal hygiene. If that fails or even before you try, talk to an infectious disease specialist it sucks,I have similar problems,RN
