I kept hearing, all my life, the big fat LIE that my period cramps would get better "later". After kids, after 30, whatever. And that my periods would get SHORTER.

Well I'm 36 with 2 kids and they are as horrid as they were in 8th grade. As in double over, want-to-die horrid. I have said before that I've had cramps worse than childbirth pains... and that's no exaggeration.

My periods are also almost always 7 days and fairly heavy. Blech.

So I'm wondering, has anyone actually seen this holy grail of lighter/less painful/shorter periods after having kids or turning 30?

I actually have a tiny ray of hope. This month there was less pain and for the first time ever it was only about 5 days, not 7. I had given up hope, figured I'd be better off waiting for menopause vs. waiting for some miraculous "improvement".

Go on the pill. It works miracles when it comes to cramps.

Completely agree with above posters, the pill worked wonders for my awful periods and you can even skip a period if you have a special occasion coming up.

Edited to say I'm sure I've read somewhere you can have an operation to lighten periods in extreme cases too. They use a special tool on the lining of the womb if I remember rightly.

Hi,

I regularly get quite debilitating period pains on the first/second day of my menstrual cycle and I was wondering whether anyone has any ideas?
What points do you find best to tap (and for general pain)? And in any particular succession?

Thanks

Have you ever spoken to a doctor about it?

I'm younger than you are, but got significant improvement using mefanamic acid.

I'm 33 yet to have kids but my period is worse than it used to be, heavier and lasts longer and more pains. I'm not on the pill. It never agreed with me, but i believe evening primrose, chamomile tea etc are best during that horrid time and also before

I would agree that you should go to the docs, even if the pill isn't right for you there's other things they can give you to try. I had REALLY bad cramps as a teen, I remember just sitting on the pavement in the middle of the town one day crying with the pain! But as soon as I started the pill it all stopped

How about fish-oil? I heard the omegas in the fish oil can work

I have been drinking so much coffee. I definitely had enough caffeine. I don't know about the fish oil, but I might give it a try.

Just make sure its pharmaceutical grade. That is the only kind to take. To be extra safe I really recommend oil that comes from sardines and/or anchovies. They are lower on the food chain and have less mercury and stuff to begin with. It might be worth a try.

I know something that would probably help but I don't know if you can get it in time. That is the Allay Patch. It sends out electrical signals that block the pain. I have heard it REALLY works, but that's all I know.

: Too much fast food definitely causes period pain. But I have noticed that too much fast food makes me feel sluggish and unhealthy. And come to think of it, when I feel like that, my period is a "double-whammy."

That is an amazing, amazing point. It is obvious, but you made my day with that. I am thinking back to my last period and I had to eat a lot of fast food because I was really busy and my period was soooooo painful.
