you got it Keisha! Unfortunately, you have to find ways around the medically needy until it works for everyone. While I was on it which by the way was a mistake made by DCF, I found a way around it which is why I shared it with everyone. Depending on how much SOC is, it may or may not work. I suggest re applying to make sure one of the minimum wage idiots didn't do something wrong like they did with mine. What happened was they left my old job that I reported losing and added the new one along with my son's supplemental social security which made me make too much money. I went and called 866-762-2237, held for almost an hour and spoke to someone there and explained the situation to them....I questioned on how if I am making $297 per week and my son gets SSI of $642 a month totaling under $1,900 per month am I making too much for a family of 3 w/out child support...it didn't make sense to them either that my SOC was almost $700....hell my rent is $1215! Once they went through everything with me over the phone, I got a letter stating that I would be put on straight medicaid starting 9/1/09...the next month, I was able to pick my own plan which I recommend!! With straight medicaid, you can pretty much go to any medicaid doctor but if you are an adult, there is NO dental! Screw that lol..I went and signed up for Molina healthcare which by the way is AWESOME! Lots of doctors on there!! All specialties etc so I suggest looking into it....now, if your case is right and you cant cover SOC but can maybe afford insurance, you might want to google cover florida...that is a plan that Gov. Christ (sp) came up with for affordable healthcare....I hope this helps someone! I am always here if you guys have any questions....I am the insurance queen lol....I am a billing manager for a doctors office so I pretty much know the in's and out's :)
i had medicaid and now they have me on medically needy with a soc of 31.00 even though im already getting foodstamps can i re-apply for medicade my husband is self employed and his income is dropping

Wow. I have to agree with Patte. After reading all the horror stories and knowing they stuck my (adult) son with a soc of $209/ mo when he's receiving absolutely no income at all, I think I'd be jumping up and down with a soc of $31.00. Sorry pie.... I'm sure you're upset after having to pay nothing at all... but maybe you should read everyone else's soc dilemmas. You'll (hopefully) realize how good you have it. Maybe it was a typo... maybe you meant $310.00.

sorry people my bad it is 310.00 thanks for catching that jenniL. does it really matter if its 31.00 or 310.00 every doctor that i have called is not accepting medically needy patients. so a soc means nothing at this point

That is bull, google Drs in Hillsborough who accept straight medicaid......NOT soc, Because after you meet your soc, you are on medicaid again at that point and with a small amount of effort $310 is childs play to meet, I wish we could trade!!!! when we meet our soc of $1219 every month on unemployment!!!!

has anyone noticed the CNS amount vs the regular income level amount? CNS standS for "CONSOLIDATED NEED STANDARD". From what I know this is a special deduction for certain people that is from the government or federal something. that is the extent that i know, which isnt much I know. But I hit a dead end from this point and am not told anything other than the above. I googled it endlessly and nothing!
If you look at the chart For instance, a 2 person houshould is 241 but the CNS amount is 1215. I truely believe this is the loophole in us ADULTS getting full medicaid or atleast qualifying for it better! So far everyone at DCF wants to push this under the rug, no one can tell me what CNS is all about or HOW its USED in the calculations and IF its used in our calculations, what is the criteria of CNS vs Regular, etc. AM i THE ONLY ONE THAT IS CURIOUS ABOUT THIS SECRET LITTLE AMOUNT ON THEIR CHARTS???

Just doing random google searchs and I found this....Still lost!!!

The Revenue Maximization Specialist checks “Yes” if the family’s (child(s) and parent(s))
income is less than the Consolidated Need Standard for the family size. The Revenue
Maximization Specialist also enters the gross income disregards, net income (gross income
minus disregards equals net income). Then the Consolidated Needs Standard (CNS) is
compared to the family’s net income.

department shall establish consolidated standards of need each fiscal year which may vary by geographical areas, program, and family size, for temporary assistance for needy families, refugee assistance, supplemental security income, and general assistance. Standards for temporary assistance for needy families, refugee assistance, and general assistance shall be based on studies of actual living costs and generally recognized inflation indices and shall include reasonable allowances for shelter, fuel, food, transportation, clothing, household maintenance and operations, personal maintenance, and necessary incidentals. The standard of need may take into account the economies of joint living arrangements, but unless explicitly required by federal statute, there shall not be proration of any portion of assistance grants unless the amount of the grant standard is equal to the standard of need.

The department is authorized to establish rateable reductions and grant maximums consistent with federal law.

Payment level will be equal to need or a lesser amount if rateable reductions or grant maximums are imposed. In no case shall a recipient of supplemental security income receive a state supplement less than the minimum required by federal law.

The department may establish a separate standard for shelter provided at no cost.

My family was just approved for medicaid; except my husband and I were enrolled in medically needy program with a share of cost of 1250 each... i am beside myself as that is almost as much as we currently make per month (1650/month in a household of 6). I looked at the financial criteria and it looks like we qualify for full coverage, but it is ridiculous! I have a heart condition and now no doctor will talk to me and medicaid won't listen either. HELP ME... I JUST WANT TO GO SEE A DOCTOR TO GET MY MEDICATION!
Noureen wrote:
I just approved for medically needy with share of cost of $950. This is insane. This is more then having insurance. Insurance co-pays are 25-50 dollars. Last time i had insurance i was paying $164 and was covered the entire month. Medicaid is crappy. So does this mean that if i go to the doctor and the bill comes out to $800 i have to pay out of pocket?

My medically needy soc is $3260!!!! That's what insurance costs for an entire year, and this is per month. How is that helping anyone in need. This is insane and my family and I are putting off an operation that I need because we can't pay for it.

As I mentioned in a recent post my medically handicapped adult son was recently "approved" for the medically needy plan with a soc of $209/mo. He doesn't even make this much a month and receives no addition financial assistance (like SSD or SSI) at this point in time. Can he REapply? Just wondering if he might be approved for something different next time around. Not sure though if it's worth the risk of ending up with an soc that's HIGHER (even though it doesn't seem feasible when he's not bringing in any kind of income right now. But an soc of $209/mo seemed unfeasible, too). If anyone knows if he can/should REapply, let me know. Thanks

Medically needy DOES NOT WORK. My Wife has it and needs to see a doctor desperately. we do not have the money to afford to go to a doctor and her share of cost is only $5.00. Yet not one doctor in the orange or Seminole county will take this insurance. Is is about as good as having NO INSURANCE. The medicaid system here is a FAILURE.
I have called MANY offices that accept medicaid and they all say "We don't take it because we have no guarentee we will get paid". They even laughed at me and told me that no one will take it. Only if perhaps you were going to a doctor for a long time and got switched to it, but no doctor is going to see you as a new patient if you have Share of Cost. Even the emergency room after being informed of Share of cost told us that it really isn't insurance and no one will take it.
-This system need a fix BIG TIME!!
Mike ,I just got put on this like on May 1st. I am disabled and only have SSD .I live alone .I have tried to talk to the medicaid ppl and asked them how do you expect me to pay $979.00 worth of medical bills a month when I only make 1100 a month it gives me like 200$ to pay living expensive.and now you are saying that NO one will see you if you tell them you have this ins. OMG..may I ask do you work ? dose your wife get SSD ? if so is it as much or less then what I make can you please share with me? what about prescription does it cover them?

I have been told that for the Medically needy share program they DO NOT TAKE ANY LIVING EXPENSE INTO CONSIDERATION. thats what the ppl at CFS told me. that just doesn't seam right to me either. I do have living expenses to pay. Rent ,phone ,lights water and sewer, car ins. food since all I get is $16.00 a month in FS.and I am a single white disabled female and 55. but yet my SOC a month is $979.00 my monthly income is 1179.00 how foolish is that? I am to pay all but 200.00 dollars on medical out of my total income this is so wrong in every and any way you look at it.
