yep it has to be 835 you have to turn in into medicaid office. Wait for them to do a bill tracking and then they will let you know you have met your SOC for that month and you have to tell the dr to bill medicaid. Someimes they do the tracking fast and sometimes they don't. My SOC went up to 3439.. from 1607 really bites... I am doing everything legal and i am getting so screwed i cant even get in to a dr. Oh and that is a problem that you will have is there are no doctors that will take the share of cost...so you end up going to the hospital and wasting ER dr time and your time and still might not even come close to what you need for your soc. I am so aggravated with it all right now.

Actuallywhen you call DCF now you are getting a contractor, they are doing their job because someone pays them X dollars and THEY really don't care, when it was DCF state emplyees you had people doing the job because they did care. These mercenaries do it for the dime.

I just got my letter saying I'm approved for "share of cost" ongoing but I have to meet $1850.00 .... Are my medications that are prescribed to me on a monthly basis ( if purchased @ retail of course ) considered part of that "deductible"? Because if they were or if I had to purchase them @ retail it would cost me about $2200.00 alone.

Medically needy DOES NOT WORK. My Wife has it and needs to see a doctor desperately. we do not have the money to afford to go to a doctor and her share of cost is only $5.00. Yet not one doctor in the orange or Seminole county will take this insurance. Is is about as good as having NO INSURANCE. The medicaid system here is a FAILURE.
I have called MANY offices that accept medicaid and they all say "We don't take it because we have no guarentee we will get paid". They even laughed at me and told me that no one will take it. Only if perhaps you were going to a doctor for a long time and got switched to it, but no doctor is going to see you as a new patient if you have Share of Cost. Even the emergency room after being informed of Share of cost told us that it really isn't insurance and no one will take it.
-This system need a fix BIG TIME!!
I know how you feel. I live in Daytona Beach and NO ONE will help me whatsoever! I have heart problems and I moved back home to Florida after being diagnosed with congestive heart failure. My brother lives in Orlando but he is just as poor as I am. At least when I die, I know my brother will raise my daughter. Anyway, I was found to be "medically needy" but I cannot get any help at all. Now I am stuck because I only have a monthly income of 1500.00 monthly, yet I was told by DCF that I have to pay a share of cost of $1445.00 monthly BEFORE medicaid will even pay! They do not even take into consideration that I have rent, utilities, car payment and car insurance, as well as have to buy FOOD to feed myself AND my 14-year-old daughter! The DCF here is running about a month behind in updating anything because I sent in my medical bills from having to go to the hospital to get help when I ran out of my blood pressure and heart medications! I did this about 3 weeks ago and was told by the automated system that I have not met my share of cost YET! Therefore, if you are sick and need any medical help at all, you might as well forget it! So much for that so-called "Hippocratic Oath" that doctors take to help the sick and needy, huh? What a crock of malarky that is! It's all about the money in THIS state! This is outrageous and should not even happen at all, yet it does all the time in Volusia County and especially in Daytona Beach.

The Medically Needy Program does work. But it helps to be knowledgable about it. DO NOT rely on the medical providers to know the program.
If you SOC is only $5.00. The doctors office just needs to fax the bills to the medicaid billing office. Call you local DCF office and get the fax #. Make sure the doctors office puts your DCF Case # on the bill for better tracking. Once DCF receives the bill in excess of $5.00, that will open Medicaid from the time of your doctor appt. until the end of the month.
Again, do some research about the program call your local DCF office or www.dcf.state.fl.us/ess and get the knowledge.
REALLY? No it doesn't! I know this for a fact because I can't get a straight answer out of ANYONE in the DCF office to even begin with, provided they even ANSWER the phone to begin with! The ONE doctor's office that even accepts Medicaid here in Daytona Beach told me that they DO NOT FAX anything over to DCF; they call MEDICAID to see if you have met your share of cost. If not, then you have to pay $200.00 UPFRONT BEFORE even being seen! I don't know about you but I don't have an extra $200.00 laying around for this sort of situation to begin with! After all my bills are paid each month, I'm lucky if I even have $100.00 to last me all MONTH! As for DCF being timely in updating ANYTHING---good luck with that! I sent in medical bills from having to go to the ER at Halifax Medical Center because I RAN OUT of my blood pressure and heart medications that I had filled before I moved here from Indiana. This was 3 WEEKS AGO! I called the automated system and it STILL says I need to meet my share of cost! That Hippocratice Oath that doctors take is a joke here in Florida! If you don't have money and/or insurance, forget it! I cannot even FIND a doctor that will even help me here and I have congestive heart failure! So don't tell ME the system works because I know for a FACT that it DOESN'T.

I've recently been put on this medically needy program too. Im positive it's a joke.... My sister was on it too. When she was diagnosed with lung cancer, they didn't give her chemo.... So they just let her die, because she was needy. Not even 6months after her diagnosis they deemed her terminal. They told her she was getting chemo, but she never had any symptoms that follow after chemo treatments. Im convinced the new government we live in, is actually proceeding with Genocide on the poor... Most likely obeying the rule of China. Folks like Americans are naive to this, due to our enormous self inflicted reputation of freedom and rights for the people. We can't see whats really going on anymore. Just like the lady with her two kids on the Titanic singing her babies to sleep knowing they were all going to be dead soon. Except American people have not accepted this is what your government wants for you.... You can't fight something you can't see.... So wake up and do something! Blogging is the lazy mans way out!! So is voteing!! Washington didn't vote, he picked up a gun and took care of the problems and gave us WE The People! We've lost it!! Get it back!!

give me a break! i have followed my daughter thru this process
of trying to get covereage and trying to find doctors who will accept it and also calling DCF repeatedly. She has spent countless hours on the phone never getting thru, and in the rare event that she does get thru she gets disconnected. when she requested they take her # in case they got disconnected they said "we can't do that". also, every worker gives her different info. she is close to breaking down and me along with her going thru this process! we are not idiots. i have a 4 yr degree in social work and this is not right!
Have you tried the outragious website they claim is the next best thing since white bread? give me a frigen break! This state is a joke with it's crap so called assistance programs.
I came here from AZ. 8 years ago and can't wait to get the BLEEP out of here. I've been disabled for many years and have never been through such bull in my life and now I have been put on this medically Needy sh*t, exactky what is it any way? I better be able to get my medications and things i need when i need them or i will die. The dumb f**ks better not let me die or my family will sue the whole state of Florida. I came here Ill and i have proof from specialists other than from here in this hick god forsaken hell hole.

me and my wife have a SoC of $2300 and our income is around $3000 a month Before taxes. you take out the bills and its just stupid that the SoC is so high.
But some of you are annoying saying to go to the ER for fake crap to hit your $200 SoC. Im sorry but your why insurance is so high dont scam the system it hurts us all. DO you know you can make $10 an hour to stand on a corner and hold a sign 2 days and you can meet that. only people that should complain here are ones with SoC that are just stupid high.
lastly Dont forget that its ment to help you Not fully suport u. I would rather gather debt $2300 at a time 1 month at a time than get a $67,000 hospital bill. I had to pay $2300 for my kid to be born and it took me over a year to pay that BUT i would have never been able to pay $67,000 off anytime soon.
for the people that have constant medical needs think of that yes your gathering debt each month but you get to live and it could be alot worse.
if so many people did not milk the system we could Have afordable plans.
I know alot of you are going to Hate me but come on im living month to month trying my hardest to make it and guess what.... ITS my own fault for not doing better when i was in school and getting a better job. cause now im unable to afford to go to school to get a better job and im unable to get decent health care cause you have to work for a good place to get it.
I dont get food stamps i dont get welfare medical needy is only thing i try to get cause I WANT TO LIVE of i ever get sick. Id rather have Colectors calling me trying to get my SOC than be sick and dead.
To the people that dont abuse the system im sorry but there were just to many people posting about such low numbers that you can make with day labor. Even having to pay a sitter you would make what you need to meet those numbers in the first weekends

Olga, You are absolutely right! My husband also is a transplant survivor (intestinal) and his meds alone exceed our share of cost ($1110.10) each month. He had straight Medicaid until I got a job, but now we must meet the SOC amount each month for him to qualify. I was advised today that I should talk with my Pharmacy to make sure they will bill his meds on the 1st of every month, so that we meet the SOC and he will be covered for the remainder of the month. He has labs every other week (to check the Prograf levels and such) and because the meds meet our SOC his labwork will be also be covered. But, in many cases it is unrealistic to think the SOC always works. Many do not have the bills that exceed the SOC and because it's adjustable or dependent on the household income, the SOC can increase. I do feel that many could get lost in the loopholes, but I totally agree that you cannot, under any circumstances, take no for an answer. Keep searching and keep believing. And DON'T EVER GIVE UP!!!!!! It is frustrating and you often get different answers on the same subject, but the case workers are there to help you. If you don't understand, try calling back and talking to someone else. And remember to take it slow, ask alot of questions, listen carefully and keep a journal of who you talked to, what they said and when you spoke to them. God Bless you all in your efforts.

<quoted text>I'm not understanding why there seem to be so many different opinions and results on the medically-needy issue but in my case, my husband has been on medically-needy medicaid and his "share of cost" is over $4,000 per month. He is a liver transplant survivor and his meds alone exceed that amount. It is not a fixed rate for everyone; it is based on your income and assessed from time to time so the SOC is adjusted as needed. We've never had to pay a penny on the SOC. I don't understand all these comments but you must dig and question. My daughter's kids are on medically needy as well and today her doctor's office told me their SOC is $2,000 because that is the amount for all. She is so wrong and I know it, but when you run into people who are stubborn and think they know it all, they oftentimes give the wrong information. Don't give up and reach further; look it up in the medicaid website, anything, but just don't take no for an answer. The plan works, it's people who don't make it work.

I believe Mike. I live in Miami and the same thing happens here. Why is it that no one will give you a straight answer when you call 1-866-762-2237. I have faxed to them 3 different bills on different dates that go over my SOC yet my doctors have not gotten paid. When I call to get a list of doctors that take this program, I never get an call back and there is never anyone there to answer your call or question. Today they told me that I need to go to a doctor that takes medicaid. Well... They should've told me that from the beginning to avoid the embarassment of having an unpaid bill. I still think they are full of ...... I'm still in limbo and now I have pending bills to pay that I have no money for and a sprained foot that needs care.
