Share of Cost, medically does work, I use it every month in Florida and everyone honors it and takes it. Do more research and learn how to apply, when to apply and what to apply. I did

I'm not sure why you guys think that medically needy doesn't work! I have medically needy with a share of cost $82. I made an ER visit on a sunday, a doctor visit on a monday, and another ER visit on tuesday. I told every one of them that i didn't have insurance, just medically needy. the first er said they are a private hospital and i have to take that up with medicaid. so when i went to the er at a different hospital i just said i didnt have insurance. when i came home i got a call from medicaid saying the 2nd er visit was paid for, when that hospital typed in my SSN they automatically went to medicaid office, so i asked how can i get you guys to pay the bills from the first er office?(there were 2 bills from the first er visit, a $339 one and a $559 one) and she said just fax in the bills, and i did and everything was taken care of. nothing out of my pocket.:) so...not sure why some of you are confused! maybe you should call up medicaid and ask what the problem is!good luck!
Well, you are lucky you pay so LITTLE! What if your total income is $1000, your rent, car insurance and telephone is $600 and they want $800 per month and you MUST see several doctors a month - life or death. This is the survival of the fittest!!??

Trying to get a hold of the DCF social worker and/or DCF directly is a mission! I have been approved for medically needy with a share cost =$982.00, which is insane!! If I were able to afford this, I would not be seeking public assistance. This is my first time as I am currently umemployed. Can someone tell me what documentation we are to show the phys or hospital since we do not get an insurance card? Does this also cover vision/dental?? Thx!

For anyone that has trouble, get your doctor to call the local Medicaid Area Office. That office will be able to explain to them how to get their money and for you to become eligible if you've gone over your share. You still want them to work with that office even if you've not just so your bills get counted quickly. All these docs know the local area office number, it's free help.

It would be nice if someone actually knew what the programs pay for because i was told i could use three consecutive months to meet my share of cost and after the day i meet that number, 904, medicaid paid until the end of that month. But no one answers the GD phones so how are we to know unlees we try and then end up ewith umpteen dollars woth of medical bills. This stae is worse than communism at least there wed gettreatment. Another thing those other three florda medicaid programs who qualifies for them?
i cant get anyone to answer phones either.. this plan is stupid. ive had medicaid forever in VA and they have nothing like this. Ive been told by my pharmcist that its no good. if perfessionals tell you this i think something needs to happen

Yes and while you are sitting there and complaining about you SOC, just think, IT COULD BE WORSE! Mine is $4500 so I would love to have your SOC! I've been through college and have been working full time for the last 10 years. My Husband is laid off and we're expecting our first child. What makes me angry is NOT someone complaining about their SOC. It is when people are driving the Cadillacs, BMW, Mercedes, etc...shopping at these high end stores, paying $300 for one outfit alone, then turn around and use an EBT card in Publix! Obviously they're doing something illegal or DCF isn't doing their jobs. Either way, people need to be better monitored and quit abusing the system!

I wrote a letter to Channel 8 news on your side today to let the news media know whats going on with our Medicaid "Share of Cost" program. I think that it needs to be brought to peoples attention how much money is being wasted on this program. It makes no sense to me that they give you share of cost with a deductible of $730 (mine) and expect you to rack up a bill for that amount every month in order to have medical coverage. Everyone should just have medicaid and it would save alot of money. My scripts are about $200 monthly sometimes a little less so instead of them just paying the $200 a month they want me to rack up a bill of $730 (at least) and on top of that then and only then they will pay my scripts....the only place you can go to get a medical bill without coming out of pocket at the time of the visit is the Emergency room. So not only is money being wasted by paying that extra for the bogus ER visit to open your medicaid but these Dr's time and the beds at these hospitals are being used and wasted foolishly as well. No wonder the wait is always so long at the hospital ER to be seen everyone is there trying to get their "share of cost" met so that they can get their meds and see their regular dr's, and even worse is that it's a repetitive cycle. It has to be repeated every damn month to get coverage. I hope the news media gets the attention of someone who can make a change to the system cause this is absolutely ridiculous!

Medically needy DOES NOT WORK. My Wife has it and needs to see a doctor desperately. we do not have the money to afford to go to a doctor and her share of cost is only $5.00. Yet not one doctor in the orange or Seminole county will take this insurance. Is is about as good as having NO INSURANCE. The medicaid system here is a FAILURE.
I have called MANY offices that accept medicaid and they all say "We don't take it because we have no guarentee we will get paid". They even laughed at me and told me that no one will take it. Only if perhaps you were going to a doctor for a long time and got switched to it, but no doctor is going to see you as a new patient if you have Share of Cost. Even the emergency room after being informed of Share of cost told us that it really isn't insurance and no one will take it.
-This system need a fix BIG TIME!!
This is not true share of cost is accepted in dental offices, pharmacies, and medical offices, and also the emergency room.
I just went to the emergency room last nite and when i check out i told them i have medically needy ins and my visit will be cover by medicaid if it meets the share of cost amount. Also my uncle just had teeth pulled and replaced with dentures totally COVERED BY MEDICAID. the best thing for u to do is to call medicaid and ask who will accept that insurance.

Heather, what is your monthly income? No, you don't have to answer that but the reason your SOC is so high is because of your income. If you are meeting your share of cost each month, then there must be some reason that can't get medical insurance as that kind of money would pay for a really good plan.

Now, if you don't qualify for medical insurance because of pre-existing conditions, I'm sorry but the plan isn't there for to give medical help away, that's why you have to QUALIFY.

Now, all that being said, if you've squeezed DirecTv, cigarettes, booze, and Air Jordans out of your budget and STILL are having trouble, go back and get requalified, and ask to see a supervisor when you are done.

You hit the nail on the head! You wouldn't believe how many times during my AHCA career that I would have to go to a DCF office or a county health department and would see guys in sneaks that I would never have bought myself because of the cost. I would see more iPods than I would take time to count, and cars that I couldn't begin to afford. Those same people would have FULL MEDICAID!!!

You're right DCF isn't doing their job, but it's not entirely their fault. The politicians won't make the tough choices that say you have get rid of luxuries, can't buy iPhones, and can't buy four cases of beer a week. On the other hand, the rules that are there, there aren't enough DCF workers to investigate all the applicants.

I have a solution but no politician would ever do it: Investigate one out of ten applicants. Prosecute for FRAUD anyone that is found cheating, next, investigate one out of ten recipients. Prosecute any cheaters to the fullest extent of the law. Fully publicize the effort. Do this for a year. I bet at the end of the year the recipient rolls would have shrunk incredibly. If you've done nothing wrong you've nothing to be afraid of.

This would leave a lot more money for those that REALLY need the money.
