Judge returns cancer-stricken teen to parents, who promise he'l...

Full story: TwinCities.com

Do you agree with the judge's decision to let Daniel Hauser live with his parents as long as he gets chemotherapy? A Brown County District judge agreed Tuesday to return custody of 13-year-old Daniel Hauser back to his parents, who said they would follow a court-ordered regimen of chemotherapy for their son.

Finally, the boy is returned home. Now the Mom can go to the Doctor and find out what to do...because....after all.....we all know with regards to women, children and medical decisions, this is an intensely personal decision best left between the woman and her physician.

This lady is a pile of garbage. This poor child has not even had a chance at life yet and his mother felt she was the right hand of god with the ability to take his life as she saw fit. She should be ashamed and embarrassed. The other story that was written states she felt abandoned, of course, how many people condone killing children? I cant believe this kid is living with this nut case again....

I am moving to Brown County, changing my name to Hauser and ignore any court orders I get. Wow anybody want to join me ? Is the land of no law. That judge should never have signed that order or should do his job.

After all the taxpayer $ and nationwide search, why wouldn't the judge trust them to follow though with the treatment plan - they've done such a good job in the past. The government should've never gotten involved in the first place! The US doesn't force Muslims to go against their religion, why force the Hausers?

That woman should go directly to jail for an equal time that she was "on the run". Teach that little whimp a little respect that his parents and other morons have not instilled in him. Then get his wussy a ss into Chemo so he can live. Don't save him only to have him be a moron like his Mom and Dad. These people are a joke.

Oh get real, the courts should have no say so in this matter. Nobody knows better than a parent what to do with a sick child. Chicken soup, peenut butter sandwich and lots of TV will heal every kid, until the kid dies.

That women should go to prison for at least 10 years. You know that they used the child as a bargaining chip when negotiating their safe return, and that included no jail time.

I'm torn between my original, sane and rational approach to the court's involvement with custody and treating Daniel as was originally planned, prior to mom hitting the road with the kid. Now with a media company on hand, to film and document the Hausers, I almost feel like saying, just take the kid and do as you like with him. If Daniel doesn't want chemo, then fine. Document his life, on film, and run a dateline special on NBC a year and a half from now when he's dead. Sadly, if given free choice, and Daniel died from the no chemo route, I suppose Brown County and the larger government, would be blamed, by the Hausers, for not taking control and forcing the chemo.

As a child of divorced parents, and lengthy, repeated custody battles, I know that previously, kids under 14, had no right to make decisions by themselves, even chossing a parent to live with. That's why I'm suprised the court has just let this situation create new precedent. Leaving a sick child with a parent who fled the state and tried to get out of the country, doesn't lead to mental stability or rational thought. For you liberals out there, throw in the religious extremism, shouldn't that be a further issue of concern? Jim Jones?'Member him and his followers? Kool aid time when the end looked bleak. Now one would think that couldn't happen here but after all, Daniel doesn't want to cooperate, according to mom. That's one reason the judge let him stay with the family, instable emotionally. Does any of that give you comfort or, concern? Just some thoughts.

Land of the Free, home of the brave? Why the hell can't the "authorities" leave these people alone to decide the method of treating this young man? Medical doctors ARE NOT always right. State warrant? Federal warrant? Was someone's ego bruised because the state's medical community couldn't gouge these people for a new lake home or matching Mercedes? Once again, follow the money.

I think it was wise for the prosecutors to drop the charges and for the parent to bring the child back. I hope the treatment works for the child. One thing I'm sure - the kid will probably get the best treatment available with all eyes focused on this case.

So are the Hauser going to have to pay for the national search that took place for Daniel? My guess is no. Colleen Hauer shoud get the opportunity to pay off her dept to society with a very long prison sentance. My guess is none of this will happen.

Well if they had private insurance, the doctors do gouge until they get every cent. By saying this was a medical necessity if Medicaid becomes involved they have to pay. However experimental treatment is not paid for. Really the whole point is now let them go ahead with the treatment and the rest of you who are not in this situation thank whoever is in charge that you are so perfect and have perfect children. Pray too that you never get ill.

I agree. I know the family was scared and having the charges dropped will help the boy make a better-informed decision that's best for his health care. I do worry that the boy is a flight risk (he's mentioned that in the past he wanted to run away).

May Daniel do as well as possible through chemo. I'll be sending positive thoughts Danny's way.

Good decision by all involved. Daniel needs to understand that many people have undergone chemotherapy and it wasn't easy for any of them. Maybe he should talk to some people who have survived what he has to get a perspective, and young people in particular.

If a person like this boy doesn't want treatments & the court orders it , does the courts pay for it , or leave the parents liable to pay ? I say make the judge pay . he ordered it .

How can this poor kid concentrate on anything after the jack booted storm troopers have rattled his poor mother so. This sounds like the making of a Waco all over again. Whose to say the family won't try to hole up on the farm with those California type herbal alternative medicine crowd. THe Hauser's seemed to have picked up a goofy following already. I'd be cautious if I was down there and trying to handle this matter.

Daily Horoscope for December 6

Taurus

If you gave up over what happened yesterday, you stand a better chance of sorting things out today. Talking to the person who failed to go for the teamwork may help to get a grip on the situation, especially if you manage to avoid recriminations or accusations. Instead, do your best to be as understanding and compassionate as possible. Or just let it go.
