I'm torn between my original, sane and rational approach to the court's involvement with custody and treating Daniel as was originally planned, prior to mom hitting the road with the kid. Now with a media company on hand, to film and document the Hausers, I almost feel like saying, just take the kid and do as you like with him. If Daniel doesn't want chemo, then fine. Document his life, on film, and run a dateline special on NBC a year and a half from now when he's dead. Sadly, if given free choice, and Daniel died from the no chemo route, I suppose Brown County and the larger government, would be blamed, by the Hausers, for not taking control and forcing the chemo.
As a child of divorced parents, and lengthy, repeated custody battles, I know that previously, kids under 14, had no right to make decisions by themselves, even chossing a parent to live with. That's why I'm suprised the court has just let this situation create new precedent. Leaving a sick child with a parent who fled the state and tried to get out of the country, doesn't lead to mental stability or rational thought. For you liberals out there, throw in the religious extremism, shouldn't that be a further issue of concern? Jim Jones?'Member him and his followers? Kool aid time when the end looked bleak. Now one would think that couldn't happen here but after all, Daniel doesn't want to cooperate, according to mom. That's one reason the judge let him stay with the family, instable emotionally. Does any of that give you comfort or, concern? Just some thoughts. |

I think it was wise for the prosecutors to drop the charges and for the parent to bring the child back. I hope the treatment works for the child. One thing I'm sure - the kid will probably get the best treatment available with all eyes focused on this case.

So are the Hauser going to have to pay for the national search that took place for Daniel? My guess is no. Colleen Hauer shoud get the opportunity to pay off her dept to society with a very long prison sentance. My guess is none of this will happen.

Well if they had private insurance, the doctors do gouge until they get every cent. By saying this was a medical necessity if Medicaid becomes involved they have to pay. However experimental treatment is not paid for. Really the whole point is now let them go ahead with the treatment and the rest of you who are not in this situation thank whoever is in charge that you are so perfect and have perfect children. Pray too that you never get ill.

I agree. I know the family was scared and having the charges dropped will help the boy make a better-informed decision that's best for his health care. I do worry that the boy is a flight risk (he's mentioned that in the past he wanted to run away). May Daniel do as well as possible through chemo. I'll be sending positive thoughts Danny's way. |

And I promise to pay off the national debt How could any judge trust this kids mother after she went on the run to avoid chemo in the first place?
